Update, I'm now renaming this thread. It is now the progress blog for the 28th Commissariat Provost Force (CPF)!
Fluff here: commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=one&action=display&thread=14618Hi there, complete newbie here! Never posted here or any other blog-type site for that matter, fingers crossed this is going to work! To buisness, I've got back into the hobby recently after many years away and decided to go for guard, had always wanted to when I was younger but finally doing it now. Just thought it would be nice to share my minis and talk about the hobby, get tips ect... I feel that I'm a reasonable painter if a somewhat slow one, I'm trying hard not the treat each mini like a piece of art or I would never finish anything, hence no eyes, use of washes ect... I won't waste any more time waffling along at the moment and will try and post some pics. Going to post my first 10 man squad today with a few more bits to come if people want to see them. I would love any comments and critiques. Any tips on taking better photos would be appreciated too! PS. Wheres the best place to actually talk about army structure and tactics?

Solid work my friend Great looking Guardsmen. And welcome to the forum we're all a friendly lot on here so settle right in infront of the fire with some slippers and a cup of tea I'm more of a painter than an actual player, so others will help you with tactics area and such, but the one thing I will say is that just a simple layer of white, gold or silver over the eagle on the flak armour would be good, just to add that little sparkle Other than that, keep it up! They are looking real good mate. Maybe use some a few light colours as well. It's the only thing coming to my mind. Else they look really good.

I have to run out of the house in a second but I wanted to say nice work.
Other than not basing them I'm not really seeing any weaknesses so I doubt I can offer you any advice myself, your are a better painter than I.

thats one of the nicest presentations of troops i have seen on here... clear, large pictures on a nice white background...
personally i like your subtle muted highlights on the armour, it gives the impresssion its matt and non reflective rather than bold white highlights suggest a more shiney finish... also i like the fact you havent painted the aquilla on the armour... it looks like its been embossed on the armour from the factory, not had the aquilla added afterwards...
my only critisism is i think you need a touch of black wash in the mouths of the shouting guardsmen, and perhaps around thier eyes too... purely to add more depth..
otherwise... very nice..

Thanks for all those comments! Glad you like my work.
Looks like I'm going to have to get some more pics sorted. Although if I'm honest I don't have much more painted yet! Hopefully a bit of encouragement from this site will make me crack on and paint quicker.
I will try and take on board everything thats said.
I will try and get round to basing them soon, any suggestions? On my Warhammer (I collect empire, might sort a blog somewhere else for them soon if anyones interested) I sand, paint it earthy then use patches of static flock and paint the edges black, sound good?
Might try those dark washes to the faces.
As to the chest badge, I'll probably leave these as the are but decorate my HQ and Vets.
I do intend on giving them squad badges too which should liven them up. Any suggestios here? I'm thinking some form of army badge/number on one side then a squad number on the other. No idea what though! My army also needs a name I guess, this too I have no idea!
Sorry I've asked more questions than given answers there!

Ok, Heres a few more pics for you. Need to wait for some better weather and decent ambeint lighting before I take any more. Here is my Platoon Commander. I've replaced his chainsword (I think) with a power fist as the intention is to use my PCS as a counter assualt unit. Hope you like him, more to come soon... Comments welcome!

Welcome to the IGMB upguardsandatem! As you have a long name which I can't be bothered to type, I shall call you Upguard from now on! *Takes a tissue sample of the new conscript so that clones may be produced as required* You may or may not thank me later. *Issues Upguard with a dog tag with his new name on and a box of half eaten chocolates* Use this equipment to go and destroy that armoured scorpion of death, with mounted death ray over there! Upon completion of you mission you may be allowed to petition the Munitorum for better equipment, such as flak underwear. Very nice clean models, a nice simple, but very effective scheme there, you should give yourself a pat on the back, just 1, then PAINT MOAR!!!

Thanks for the comments guys. Heres my next project, just need to finsh my vet squad (pics of those soon hopefully). This will be my first ever vehicle. Any tips and tricks welcomed. As you can see I've magnetised all the weapons. I've aslo scratched it up a bit to represent battle damage. Questions or comments welcome! Standard layout: Bolter turret: Flamer and dozer blade detail:

If you 'cut' the bullet holes (a few little nicks on each) then they look more realistic. A great start though! I need to invest in one of these new kits.... Are you doing a camo pattern? Are you using a brush or an airbrush? There's a lot to be said about tank painting you see, even basic stuff, although I know there's more than enough other treadheads around here who will be more than willing to stick their oar in My first thoughts would be take all the parts off and give them a few nice light sprays of undercoat, nothing looks worse than thick undercoat that has dribbled off the sides!!! Although I'm sure you knew that already ;D Then decide on your colour scheme! Get googling for ideas, or if you can get hold of one flick through one of the imperial armour boks, they've got quite a few good schemes in those (so many pretty pictures!!)

Thanks guys. I will get round to 'nicking' all the holes. I had planned on just doing it green like the armour on my guardsmen, I could try green and grey though. Havn't got an airbrush or spraypaint but I will take care when undercoating!

Sorry about the long absence, I could try and make up some excuses but I think just getting on and posting some pics would be a better idea! Today I've got some pics of my Platoon Command Squad for you! Yes they still need basing and squad markings and I hope to get that done soon. I might also add a vox to one of the guardsmen too. I have had another project on the go which should be making its debut soon, I want to completely finish them though! Everyones favourite, a sqaud of mounted melta-vets! A sneak peak of their chimera is at the bottom! Heres the Platoon Command Squad: Close combat guardsman (if there is such a thing!): Medic: Finally a sneak peak of my chimera parts: Thats all for now, as always C&C welcome.

Really like the battle damage on the chimera! And the guardsmen feels very well-painted, the only thing I would like to see on them is some kind of basing!

Thanks for the comments, basing wise I'm just doing the standard sand and static grass look, going for a dark earthy colour and scorched grass I think. Hope to have my vets finished in the next few days, just need to buy the grass!

Did you think about using the Delaque gangers from Necromunda as commissars? I just converted one to use as a commissar

How did you switch your arms, chainsword on the right and gun in the left hand on our one CC guardman??? The model's left and right....just wondering....

Being an avid converter, I can answer that. For the model on the right, he cut off the chainsword from the chainsword arm, and attached it to the grenade arm. He cut off the laspistol and glued it to the chainsword arm.

It's not TOO hard ;D I've done it with an exacto knife. I don't have any good pictures right now, though.
