 epic 40k (shadowswords+ marines 11/10/12))
« Thread Started on Feb 29, 2012, 5:00pm »

Hey there everyone. It's been a while since i posted something new, and it has everything to do with a box i was given by my friend at work. It's the old 3rd edition epic starter set!

I already owned some marines and orks, and putting them togheter i made two armies of about 1250 points.

I've already begun painting my marines, setting them up as marauders, a succesor chapter of the white scars.

That takes me back; I remember getting my Epic starter for either a Birthday or Christmas. I really must sort through the poor old battered stuff at some point it suffered the love of a teenager who used it thoroughly and cared for it less than well.

I always take care of everything i get.

Problem with my earlier stuffis that my conversion skills then busted up a lot of stuff, And the use of worse (read cheaper) materials made some things irreversibly unusable.

Triple post but as nobody seems to care for the small 40k stuff i can only keep arousing interest :'(

So i painted up some stompa's to trample over those grotz.....urm...i mean...those terminators.
They ar all painted the same except for one, who will be used as a warboss' stompa.
He's the one with the checkers on the shoulder.

I actually quite enjoy seeing the Epic scale stuff. I collected some back in the day, but could never get members of any of my gaming clubs interested in playing the system...

Those Stompas look boos! :)

Keep that foot back!!! Or i will set your mom loose on your titan again ;)

It's actually not that hard. They benefit from washes and drybrushing a lot more then normal 40k models though!!

The stompas are actually not that smaller than a guardsmen, i guess they are about 25 mm. Detail is smaller that's for sure.

The grots are the size of a guard frag grenade and the terminators are about the size of a canteen.

I find the termies look okay, if you take into account they were sculpted at the time of the older terminators. Right now we all tkae multipose for granted, but there was a time you had one pose metal sculpts, and that was all you had.

Compare the termies to this guy, you'll be amazed how good they look resized in 6 mm

Nice work. Perhaps it is time to paint up some more Epic. It has been a while and I have had this urge to make a thunderbolt fighter ace squad for my army.

Imperial guard was my army of choice in 40K epic.

Cool, i'm currently looking into a guard mechanised detachment to accompany the marines. I have already obtained some trough trades ( chimera's , hellhounds, demolishers and basilisks) and am looking to get some stuff from forgeworld in the form of their shadowswords and hydra's. I also traded some thunderbolts and marauders thanks to emptyhat and foster ;)
I also bought about 10 stands worth of bikes and 6 speeders on ebay. It's for my main unit, a speedy 15-16 stand bike force with land speeder support.

Now the reasoning after this is that i will not use imperial titans. My space marine force is a white scar succesor chapter, and is thus by default a fast moving force. i cannot imagine titans keeping up with that. So i want some shadowswords for the big guns :).

I also just love the forgeworld shadowswords. Sadly, as i can't get my guard or my dwarfs sold, the funds are lacking.

That terrain is awesome, I like how you can connect it all or have it all seperate. I can't imagine painting anything that small though, I can barely paint regular scale with any skill. XD

Hey all, i've finished the city yesterday.

Instead of a road i made two modules involving larger buildings, and a reason why the city is in ruins.

I made a big crater in the main building ( town hall if you like), and put some rusty metal in it (the projectile). I assume it comes from a large projectile with a small blast radius but a big enough shockwave to level the city. I'm gonna call it deathstrike city.

@ Cosmic: Thank!!! I'm thinking of painting the road between the buildings, where the wirhlwinds are in the last picture of the occupied city.

@ Pyrotechnics: It's actually not so hard though. they benefit from a simple paintjob in striking colours.

Last pic is of my new recruits fresh from ebay, marine bikes, speeders and guard bikes.
