so i was at my local shop and i say probably the ugliest painted necrons ever. They were a sickly green and purple. this go tme thinking. What colours are appropriate for the Necrons?
since seeing the feature film, i think that painting an entire army like "Iron Man" would be pretty sweet, the metallic yellow and red.
What do you think?

I prefer a nice white and purple, artifical composite look for them. Most parts in nice white and some details in purple. Also really nice is weathered bronze...

black with splotched on boltgun metal...sorta a tranished steel look with maybe some sickly green details, sorta generic but it looks neat.

Boltgun metal with red highlights, fancied up with some gloss finish.

What would be outrageous is an entire Necron army painted in NMM effect...

mardaddy got one better that would probably be the necron army painted to look like flowers and such.
The Wraiths look like daisy's, the Monolith looks like a pink flower pot, the tomb spiders look like big ladybugs.
Makes my army pleasent to look at.

currently i am using:
black undercoat Boltgun metal Badab Black wash
the gun is kept black, the tubes on the gun are painted goblin green, also the generator (on the guns back) painted goblin green, then i also wash it with Badab black, and thinking of highlighting it with scorpion green..
using Hawk Turquoise as where they use the white (on the models in the website.

My guys have a 'sporty blue' pain scheme! It's Enchanted blue, with joints and the like a solid black. The 'Lith black with bronze and mithril silver drybrushed on to look like it's shimmering. When you're considering a scheme you should decide on the style you want. Metallic, solid looking or ceramic are three obvious choices, and it all depends on how much time you want to spend on 'em. But uncomplicated usually looks best with 'crons, and before you settle on a scheme. Paint five models, leave 'em a few hours, come back to 'em with a fresh perspective, and consider if you're one-hundred percent sure on the scheme. If you are, have fun!

I spray mine with vermine fur brown then splodge on blazing orange and then add on some bolt gun metal, its the same style as the GW painting ogre rust scheme. The guns are then black. They look like they have just awoken from aeons of rusting sleep and the patina of ages is slowly dropping from them as they become more mobile.

I prime my infantry black, brush on Boltgun Metal, give them two heavy washes with Ogryn Flesh, and then drybrush with Chainmail. It gives a nice shiny metallic, with hints of corrosion effect. For Destroyers I do the same thing for their torsos, but leave their rear carapaces black and give them greenish edge highlights. My Monolith is also primarily black with greenish highlights, and I plan on doing the same effect with the rest of my vehicles, while paint the crews as described above.
I use gold as a detail color for the chest symbols on all my infantry, as well as on the collar "bones" of Immortals, and more important models, and do the white forehead thing with my Immortals.
You can see examples of how I've painted my robot dudesmen in my thread--the link is in my signature.

my necrons are graffitied =) as if a hive city was built over thier crypt and the Underhive Gangs came and graffitied them because they couldn't de-assemble them to use as parts.

Maybe this is to be expected - based on their Fantasy sister army, and their own artwork and nature - but I always preferred the Egyptian look. Turquoise, White, Gold, Sky Blue. Not all at the same time of course.
The current GW Default is all a bit 'The Matrix' and while suitable is, as Ymmot and others slyly suggest, a little boring. Doesn't mean it can't look good; but just like if you saw a campaign of Ultramarines, if you saw a whole load of Necrons painted the same you'd get a bit sick of it after a while.
The latest Magazine has some good examples.
