Today, Requiem was kind enough to make the drive down to my local hobby store, for a game of IG vs SM at 1500pts.

Here's my speculation: Reds won by bringing his reserve's in at the last minute and killing the squad defending your objective, then proceeded to destroy rhinos with bayonets.
Just a shot in the dark there.

Yes... that I wanted you to blow-up after the game was 'over.' So, I'll post pics, and Reds will describe what happened. I'll put my opinions of my mistakes on after that, and on the blog. If you want to know more about the blog, click the link in my sig, or Reds' sig, and it may or may not be in Aeon's sig. Moving on: Deployment! The white dot is where an objective marker is, so you can see... Reds went first. This is at the start of my first turn: The start of my second turn: I forgot to take a pic for the third turn as it was getting too intense, so this is the start of my fourth turn: Start of my fifth turn: There was no sixth turn as part of the game. This is how it looked when it ended: There was a 'just for fun' turn six where I asked Reds to kill the rest of my stuff completely. He agreed, and did so.

Deployment
I won the roll to decide whether I wanted to go first or second. With a declaration of "Fortune favors the bold!", I decided to take the first turn. I set up 2 squads, my CCS, and an ML section in a building on my right, supported by my Leman Russ. I strung out an ML section and my PCS in the middle, and hid my Banewolf (proxied by an amazing looking Immolator I had just got from Sister Galatea) inside the central building. Only my other side, I set up a screen of two squads, with my Vanquisher on my extreme left.
Requiem set up his forces with his bikers, Speeder, and a Rhino facing my Left, and a Rhino, a Tac Squad on foot, a Razorback full of Vanguard, and the Ven Dread facing my Right.
I left my Vets, Penal Troops, and Stormies in reserve, and he (obviously) did the same for his Drop Pod.
Turn 1
I edged my PCS into the central building on my table side, with the intent of having them claim the central objective. I moved my Russ forward, and started shooting. My Russ, henceforth known as The Fail Machine, horribly missed a shot at the Tac Squad on foot. my Missile Sections failed to do much, missing or failing to even glance his Rhinos. My Vanquisher managed to stun his Razorback, one of my Autocannons immobilized the Rhino next to Requiem's objective, and destroyed it's weapon. I also put a wound on one of his bikers.
Epic moments: None Fail moments: Pretty much the whole turn, especially The Fail Machine.
Requiem Disembarked his men from his Razorback and sent them down the very far Right of the table. He piled the Tac Squad out of the Rhino, and moved them onto his objective. The bikes charged for my line, and the functioning Rhino and the dismounted Tac Squad advanced as well. The Dread pushed passed the Razorback to get a better firing position. He also plunked his Drop Pod down onto the table, and disembarked.
Requiem then opened up, killing a handful of men in one of the squads on my Right, and dropped some men from the squads on my left with his Speeder. The Sternguard piled out of the drop pod and shot the heck out of one of my Infantry Squads.
Epic Moment: None, really Fail Moment: None
Turn 2
I maneuvered The Fail Machine into a better firing position, brought my Vets in near the Drop Pod, and moved my PCS forward to claim the objective. I then opened up again. My Vanquisher blew one of the Missile Launchers off the Speeder and stunned it, while my Vets cut down 4 of the 5 Sternguard with Meltas and Shotgun. I managed to put a wound his his Chaplin, and killed 1 more Marine out of the dismounted tac squad. The Fail Machine missed again horribly. I did manage to stun his remaining mobile Rhino, though.
Epic Moment: My Vets cutting down his Sternguard Fail Moment; Pretty much all the shooting from my units on the right half of the board.
Requiem moved forward with his Bikes again, firing them into one of my squads, and reducing it to 3 men. he fired the Deathwind at my Vets, killing 5, and took some pot shots at my PCS, killing 2. The rest of his men continued to advance on foot. His lone remaining Sternguard charged a three man squad of infantry. He killed 2, but the Sgt managed to bring him down.
Epic moment; My Sgt. killing his Sternguard Fail Moment: Nothing really
Turn 3
My Guardsmen finally found their range this turn. I moved the Fail Machine back a bit, and pivoted my Vanquisher to face his Razorback. My Stormies arrived on the right, just next to his dismounted Vanguard. I opened up, blowing up a Rhino and killing 4 of the Marines inside. The Fail Machine actually managed to kill a Marine in the dismounted Tac Squad. My Stormies fired into his Vanguard, missing horribly but still killing one, and pinning them (thanks to Behind Enemy Lines). My Missile Team opened up on his now dismounted Tac Squad in the center, killing 2 more. I also managed to bring down a Biker and my Vets destroyed the Drop Pod. I also managed to stun his Speeder, yet again.
Epic Moment: Pinning the Vanguard Fail Moment: Rolling THREE overheats with the Plasma guns, killing a Stormie.
Requiem pushed forward with his Bikers again, wiping out the remains of the second infantry squad on my left (the Sgt from the first squad was now bravely cowering behind a building). his Dread pushed forward, failing to kill anyone in my PCS. He advanced his two dismounted tac squads toward the center objective, and they managed to kill men from the PCS. He also managed to immobilize my Vanquisher with a Lascannon shot from the Tac Squad on his objective
Epic Moment: None, really Fail Moment: The Dread not doing anything, despite the amount of fire it put out.
Turn 4
I pulled the The Fail Machine back a bit, as the Dread was closing on it, and moved my Banewolf out of cover, placing it in front of his Bikers., and melted 2, leaving the Chaplin. My Vanquisher fired, turning the Chaplin into a gooey paste. I mauled a Tac Squad, killing all but three, blew apart the Razorback, and killed all but one of the Vanguard. I also managed to kill his speeder, but I don't remember how.
Epic Moment: Blowing up the Speeder AND the Razorback. Fail moment: The Fail Machine missed badly, again.
Requiem charged my Vets, killing two, and catching the 2 survivors in a sweeping advance. He then fired at my PCS, killing the officer. He also took a pot shot at my Banewolf, but failed to penetrate the armour.
Turn 5, 6, and analysis in the next post.

Turn 5
I sprung my trap. My Penal troops arrived next to his objective. One squad had gotten "Gunslingers", and poured fire into his Tac squad, killing 2. They both charged at the same time, forcing Requiem to pick one to attack. He chose the one with Knife Fighters, and killed one. I then charged, killed 5 Marines, forcing him to fall back. I caught him in Sweeping advance, so combat would continue. on the rest of the table, I destroyed everything but 4 Marines and the Dread.
Requiem claimed the center objective, (I was stupid and forgot to move my Banewolf), and took some pot shots at my infantry, which I ignored. Combat continued with the Penal Troops. His Marines managed to kill 1 more, but where wiped out to a man. I then consolidated onto the objective, claiming it.
We didn't get a turn 6, so the game ended with 2 Objectives to 1 in my favor. We did play a turn six, though, just to see if I could kill everything.
I plunked my Banewolf down on the center objective, and Requiem took the Marines there off before I could even roll to wound. I blew up the Dread, then directed a silly amount of fire at the last Marine, finally killing him.
The only thing left was the immobilized Rhinos with no Weapons. I joked about having my knife fighters shank it to death, then Requiem said "You know, that could work". I charged, and got a single penetrating hit. I rolled a 4, which, since it was immobilized and had no weapons, counted as destroyed.
Yes, I shanked a Rhino to death.
Things I would have done differently: Not much. If I had remembered to move the Banewolf, I could have cleaned him off the center objective. I might have traded the Stormies for another unit of Penal Troops, but they did okay.
Things Req probably should have done differently: Put the Drop Pod on my Objective, throwing my gunline there into chaos, allowing his men to advance on it. Also, I would have swept the bikes around to seal off the center objective from my men.
My MVP: My Penal troops My LVP: The Fail Machine

That would be 'stormies.'
Okay, here's a list of what I believe to be my mistakes in chronological order: 1. I should have stopped on the way there at a McDonalds or something. Not having lunch made my brain a little slower than normal.
2. I agreed to an epic amount of terrain, and I have never fought with buildings before.
3. At deployment, I should have hidden the rhino on the right in cover more.
4. When disembarking on my objective, had I been paying attention, I would have remembered the penal legions in reserve. I should have sleeperd the edge so that he couldn't bring them on right there.
5. I should have tried to get the razorback out of harm's way once it could move again. Twin-linked assault cannons do make a great fire magnet, though...
6. When the sternguard came on, I thought that they couldn't rapid fire. They can, and I should have done that.
7. I was unaware until last night, but the assault bike can fire both the sidecar gun and the t-l bolter...
8. With his MLs firing into my advancing squads in the middle, I should have been a sob, and mixed them for a cover save... but I don't play that way.
9. Before they were wiped-out, I should have tried turbo-boosting the bikes. Away from the banewolf. I don't like to take chances with my marines too much, though.
X. The drop-pod really couldn't have come down on his objective. While it gets some rule-breakage that pretty much allows you to put it where you want it, the doors are big, and you still need to keep it away form obstacles. I don't believe there was enough room for it in that corner.
So instead of a cool narrative, you get hard hitting analysis of player errors. Maybe next time I'll remember to bring a pad, and write stuff down for a narrative. Maybe next time, I'll have the forces I need to win... and play them to my satisfaction. I think one of the reasons my units didn't do as well as I wanted was that I was setup more to counter a mobile list, and Reds only moved his tanks a few times, and did the reserve thing. I have much to consider for the next game.
Edit: This continues a few traditions of mine: having stuff break off of the bases in transit, and having all my stuff wiped-out in an extra turn. However, I hope to start a new tradition: not having any plasma overheats. Granted, I only had one plasma this game, but I was facing guard -- bolters do just as well.

good job guys!
I'm really thinking drop pods are key to destroying guard gunlines...
or...Knight Commander Pask standing in as a Deamonic Leman Russ covered in heavy bolters...

My favorite part of the game was the spectators.
Guy: Hey come check this out. It's a civil game of 40K.
Girl: What?! No way.
Guy: Yeah. No one's getting punched, there's no rules arguments...
Girl: No one's even getting hit w/ a codex... wow...

*Taking Down notes* Keys to beating Reds: 1)EAT before you play him, he plays mind games that only a full stomach can block 2) Officer of the fleet 3) Hit someone with a Codex! 4) Ignore his Leman Russ, because it won't hit the broad side of a Monolith
Alright Red when I get some income its on like Donkey Kong!

1) I endorse fighting on a full stomach, but it won't help you with my mind games. 2) I actually don't use reserves that often any more. It's the Hellhound with Scout you have to watch out for.... 3) No argument there. 4) Well, this was probably the worst performance I had out of a Russ ever, but if you want to ignore them, feel free. And remember, a good commander never reveals all his tricks. Reds

I have realized more mistakes after talking to Angels of Blood.
10. Rhinos get to roll to repair immobilized every turn.
11. Rhinos and razorbacks get smoke launchers as standard wargear.
