IntroductionWell here's another thread of mine As you may be aware I have just bought a Warhound Titan, Lucius Pattern. Now I'm hoping to use this thread as a whole Blog, showing from the first unboxing to the finished model. I really want to use this oppurtunity to push myself and learn new skills. Now whilst the Titan won't be here for a couple of days, I wanted to start with some base designs. So let the Blog.......begin! Base DesignsAfter doing some research I came across the 'Legion Invicta', the Titan Legion in Dan Abnetts 'Titanicus' and remembered that whilst I read this book I had a clear picture in my head of how the story looked and how it played out. I imagined the Titans walking across a red, dusty ground whenever they weren't fighting in the Urban areas, and so this is what I want to represent. Now I've very quickly drawn up two designs..... The first is a simple 2 tier base, depicting the Titan stepping down from a ledge, possibly the 'Titan Steps' mentioned in the book (although I imagine they'd be a lot bigger) The second is a much larger base showing the Titan and it's infantry escort conducting a sweep through a small Urban Area. Now whilst this is more complex, I don't know if it's too 'cliche'. I prefer the simple round first base, and I would add some more detail on the rock face to the same feel as this... or possibly like this... Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Cosmic

I like the second rock face the best. The color, and the pattern of the cracks look really aesthetically pleasing.

I would go with the second rock face, and the first base design. IMO it's best to keep these things simple but well done, or they start to detract from the model.
Although you could of cause do both, and incorporate the titan's base and your Guard army into one big display board.

I can't afford a big display board after buying the Titan! Indeedy.... Ok then, a round base with a lengthways rock face it is. I now I need to get my hands on on some foam to carve the rock face!

Display boards haven't got to be expensive. See if you can get your hands on some cheap MDF going for scrap or some big sheets of foam, (tiles maybe?) Or you could always hunt around a few skips, there's probably something useful there...

Ok I suppose not expensive, but I don't want to go overboard too quickly, I'd rather keep the focus on the Titan at the moment. Maybe an Army display board next time

I call for an IMGB Army Display Board Painting IdeasLegio: Legion Invicta Colours: Crimson and Brass According to Lexicanum, Legio Invicta's colours are just Crimson and Brass. However, I've decided to use 'Scab Red' as the main red colour. Mainly because most of the Red Titans I've seen so far are nice and bright and shiny. I want mine to be a bit more battle-worn, dusty and stained, something I feel the dark Scab Red will allow.

Awww... Not Tempestus?
Also what will it be christened?

Well Tempestus is Cobalt Blue, which is like so many other Titans out there. I suppose I could darken it or lighten it?
Hmmmmm.........

Although I'd have got a Mars pattern myself I'm certain the results will be..... sexy

Painting TesterRight fellow IGMB's, here's a paint test on a Chimera... This was painted as follows mostly using an Airbrush and then pastels.... 1) Black Undercoat 2) Scab Red Basecoat 3) Scab Red + Bleached Bone top highlight 4) Scab Red wash in the cracks 5) Damage applied with a sponge 6) Varying shade of Pastels applied and then brushed on for the dusty weathering. I quite like it but I'm not sure if it's too pink? I was going for a dusty light red if you know what I mean.

But I'm wondering if the large sand base, black/metal areas and verious other tidbits would darken it a bit?

PINK! That'll make your titan popular with the ladies though Slap it with a Baal Red wash, that'll sort it out (and you can use the airbrush still... )
