Well I wanted something new to paint yet again, so i dropped into the local toy shop and picked up a Daemon Prince. I'm going to use my Airbrush on this model as much as I can as it's good practice, so I'll use it for the NMM on the Axe and the armour, as well as the whole body. So here's where I am at the moment...... I've used 'liquid greenstuff' to fill in the gaps, and it works fairly well. I still have to find the perfect technique for it but I'm happy with how it's coped so far. Just a few more gaps to fill and then the preparation should be done. So look out for more updates tonight. HERESY! I do like this model though, good choice And I'm interested to see how you do NMM, that'll be my next project after I've nailed OSL. Is Liquid Greenstuff that good then? I've not used it, I'm still rollin' old skool with two part epoxy putty

Big gaps are a no-no really, anything bigger than 1mm is hard to fill, so it's mainly just for small hairline cracks and cuts. Painting has begun! Unfortunately though there is no light, so the photo is pants! Trust me when I say he looks a lot better than this!! The main body is almost done. Cosmic

WOW.. he (do daemons get gendererd?) looks amazing!!
Your airbrush work is fantastic.. it makes the GW seem TOTAL CR*P, I wish I hadn't bought it!
I'm really liking the colours on the body, plus the subtle conversion work you've done on 'him'...
I'm planning a Slaanesh Daemon later this year so i'll be watching this develop closely.. once again; awesome work!

Did you 'give it a tickle' from the direction the light is coming from and hard edge it with a brush? It looks bloody good anyway mate

I'm just getting started with the airbrushing, hopefully I'll improve every time. I haven't actually done any conversion work, he's straight out of the box. Sort of, I just tried what looked good Thanks 3ff3ct

Wow Cosmic, that Daemon is amazing already now! What airbrush do you own and what paints do you use with it?

Cool Cosmic. You have to give us some feedback on the airbrushes when you learn to know them more.

Cool Cosmic. You have to give us some feedback on the airbrushes when you learn to know them more. I've got the same set up (although I think I got it for £20 more... ) and as Cosmic said it's pretty solid, and I can get away with using it in the evening without waking the little 'un which shows how quiet it is!

So, Cosmic, that compressor, that is what propels the paint?
|
|
|
Post by Cosmic on Jan 20, 2012 11:48:05 GMT -5
Basically. A compressor does just what it's name suggests, it compresses air. The air is then pressurised and sent through the hose attached to the Airbrush. When you push the trigger down, a valve opens and lets the air through the brush. When you pull the trigger back, the needle is pulled back which allows for a desired amount of paint to flow, and through some physics and a combination of pulling and pushing the trigger, the paint is suctioned up and forced out with the compressed air.

ive been having problems with my airbrush recently... the paint has real trouble staying at a steady flow and does not want to do fine lines anymore... this has all started since using acrylic citadel paints...dont get me wrong... i clean it religiously... but the acrylic ink is harder to clean out than the solvent based paints i used before... anyway heres mine www.rcplanet.com/Parma_F_1_Airbrush_Faskolor_p/par40260.htmgot it hooked up to a fantastic air compressor Ripmax RCP104 with regulator and misture trap... great bit of kit, but i really think im gonna need to get a new airbrush.. i think a gravity fed one would be better for what i need... your thoughts? btw... fantastic work on the axe...and the figure overall.... i really want to do stuff like that, but the airbrush keeps playing up lol

I've been having the same problems Ashot, sometimes it will spray perfectly. But it will also stop suddenly, and I have to keep feathering the trigger to unlcog it. I think it's because Citadel paints dry so quickly. I find that if you quickly take the needle out and wipe it clean, and then put it back in with some droplets of water still on the needle, it seems to sort it out for a while.

thts exactly the problem i have... and like you say, feathering the trigger kinda unclogs it and then repeats the process a few mins later... i thought it might be a thinning problem, but like you said, the paint does dry fast... hmmmm... is there a acrylic paint retarder we could add perhaps, to keep the paint from drying in the airbrush?
il take a look

Very possibly. It works fine when you get the right ratio of paint to water, but it's so hard to actually get the right ratio! I'm going to treat myself to the 'Vallejo Air colour' range and see what they're like.

I've found that the Citadel paints need to be cut by around 50-70% with water to use in my airbrush. These are the regular paints, mind you, I've haven't yet tried running the foundation paints through my rig.

Foundation paints are the same as the normal ones in regard to water ratio. Using acrylic thinner is better than water although much more expensive

Dear Cosmic,
Where do you get off?? Painting like a champ and making me jealous all the time. By now you have figured out I am speaking sarcastically and have nothing but good things to say! Keep up the good work, mate!

Foundation paints are the same as the normal ones in regard to water ratio. Using acrylic thinner is better than water although much more expensive Yeah, I might have to look into getting some acrylic thinner when I eventually get around to getting my rig and painting area set back up. I had tried using isopropanol, initially, and found that it does not get along well at all with GW paints--it caused them to dry way too quickly and clogged the nozzle constantly. But yeah, Cosmic, that DP is looking great! Delicious, delicious heresy...
