Well after many many months of persistence, I finally have my first proper commission Teku18 has kindly asked for me to paint up a Venator.... and a Taurus.... for his 18th BattalionI've created this thread so both he and everyone else can keep track on my progress if they so wish. So, I have ordered both and hopefully they should be here by the end of the week.....I hope! They'll be painted in Teku's scheme of a desert yellow with Blue armour for the drivers. I've also just had the Imperial Armour: Model Masterclass Volume Two delivered, so I'll be using that as an excuse to try out some new techniques! Anyway, that's all for now! Thought I'd just prepare and possibly get you lot eager for some painting! ;D Cosmic

Thats a bit good, they're awesome models and I think they'd be pretty fun to paint anyway! I'm sure you'll do them justice

Seeing as how you have better luck with FW stuff then I do I felt this was the best choice haha. Thanks again for taking these on for me.

Well I'm at work til 8 tonight but I have just received word that the Taurus and Venator have arrived! I'll get some pictures up tonight for Teku. Unfortunately I'm working tomorrow morning and then I'm off to my girlfriends til Monday, so I can't work on them this weekend. However, this does mean I can wash the pieces tonight and let them sit for a whole 2 days. The oily release agent should have disappeared by then and then I can start with little to no hiccups!

Well FW have buggered up the Taurus and have sent me the wrong bits, so until they ship me some more I've started on the Venator. I've started basecoating and chipping the paint. I'm trying the hairspray technique and it's worked very well for a first try! You can still see the wet Matt Varnish in the pics so ignore that... I won't go overboard on weathering unless Teku wants more? I was just adding enough to show that these are fast, skirmish vehicles that do get banged up a bit. Next up is the underside, some detail washes and highlights. Cosmic

I love the hairspray method! I'm going to try it on my next tank that I will hopefully be getting very soon

Looks stunning as always cosmic, the battle damage appears really natural. (Not that I know what actual battle damage looks like)

It does take more time, but if done right the results are pretty incredible and realistic as can be seen on the Venator! I wonder who sat down and said "Hey! If I use hairspray to do my weathering I wonder how it will turn out?"
Did you spray the whole model in hairspray or did you put some on a brush and and "paint" it on certain spots and areas?

Yeah I've been thinking the same! How do people find out these techniques......it's baffling. Yeah I sprayed the Hairspray, once that was dry I added the beige colour. Then once that was touch-dry I attacked it with an old toothbrush. Update time! A full hour and a half since the last one

Those look fantastic. The paint chipping and weathering really makes it look like it's been speeding over dunes and the tyres match perfectly. Inspired! Can't wait for my big guns entry to arrive!

Haha that could work too! I've just started the Driver, he's almost there. And I've started assembling the final pieces, they're all dry fitted in the pictures.... Without Turret With Turret I was very wary about the blue armour for the driver. But now I quite like it, it breaks up the colour scheme subtly, but very well. Next up, finished pictures! Cosmic
