All right we have all seen John Carpenter's The Thing so I have decided upon a classical twist of a game of Mafia using Warhammer 40K and focusing on an Unknown Enemy that manages to infiltrate and devours a team of guardsmen in a secluded military research station. I'll give a quick brief of Mafia and my own vision of the game that can be played on a forum.
Mafia:
Mafia has different names, but ultimately the mechanics stay the same. The general idea is that your base is under threat of an evil organism that is killing all the personnel to take over. However, you as the guardsmen have figured out a way to stop this evil: By Lynching! Now the game plays out that during the Day Phase there is group discussions and group arguments, accusations, etc are brought forth and finally the voting begins. Once the votes are tallied, the lynching happens and the group learns that player's Character Card. This is usually either a Mafia or a Townie. However there are other character cards, but more on that later. This leads the game into the Night Phase. During the Night Phase, players with "Night Only" abilities use their actions and then the Night Phase ends. Usually at night the Demon works and kills a player. The dead player's character card and death is revealed in the next Morning Phase.
Depending on your character card will determine your overall goal to achieve in this game:
-The Demon's goal is to kill all the Guardsmen where as the Guardsmen have to kill all the Demon's.
This is Mafia in a nutshell. Not much changes when translating the game into a forum based game.
This Mafia Game has been changed slightly to reflect a Warhammer 40K background. Where a racking discovery in the Ice has been uncovered taking victims every night and assimilating them into itself. Thus Character Cards will have different names, but each card will contain a brief explanation of your abilities. If clarification is required, just reply back asking for more information or an example. Mafia are referred to as Demons and Townies are called Imperials/Guardsmen to show the differences in names.
Character Cards:
I will not reveal all of the character cards that may or may not be in play, but will confirm there are at least three:
Demon
Imperial/Guardsmen
Sergeant Unique Imperial Class
Voting:
Voting only happens during the Day Phase. A majority vote always wins and there will be a minimum number of votes required to lynch a player. The minimum number will change depending on the population of the current players.
Eg: There are 10 players. 6 votes are required for a person to be lynched.
This will drag the game out and perhaps encourage different approaches for all players included. Remember though, the Mafia will be killing every night and thus keep the population down reducing the numbers slowly.
Voting format has to be done in this format. The reason is so I can easily pick out the vote. Once a vote is cast, you may NOT change your mind. No changing votes or ideas. To prevent this, I ask all players to NOT edit their posts, even if it is to remove typos.
We can forgive you this one time.
Voting Format:
I Vote for *Insert Player Name*
Rules:
There are a few golden rules that apply:
- Lynching is based on a "majority vote" system and thus meaning a minimum number of votes will be given.
- Players will be asked to play accordingly and act as they see fit.
- Do NOT edit posts.
Warnings will be given out for minor transgressions, but auto-lynching can happen if you repeat or break a rule openly.
Plot:
Parphidrax IV: An extraordinary moon of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a team of Guardsmen and their attached Tech Priest. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman.
-Alright, I just need you to post saying you're interested or joining.
