pictures or it didn't happen! *Yoda voice* "[There] will be." I'll take an in progress pic once it has more than just a primer coat. And it happened years before I joined the IGMB--built all my Bastions when the kit was first released. I was going through boxes the other night and found a bunch of unused Bastion base level sections leftover from the assembly of my Super- and Mega-Bastions. I'm now thinking of seeing if I can get additional wall, heavy bolter, and roof/battlement sections to build an Ultra-Bastion (or should that be Hyper-Bastion to avoid Smurf connotations?) that's even bigger...

They did something similar to that at my local GW, which is on of the things that is inspiring me. I don't have the space for something that epic though. The top bit of that wall is similar to what I'm thinking of making, though, and possibly topping it with my Skyshield kit just for extra awesome.

What ams this? A l'il something-something I've been meaning to do for a while and finally got inspired to get stuck in on by a thread that MacKnight recently shared... Dun, dun, dun-dun-dun-dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

Ruh-roh! WIP. Still need to GS the legs some more where they join the pelvis, and create some stirrups, but I'm pleased with how the explosive lances are turning out. I'm saying they're impact-fused, but also have a deadman switch built into the grip so the rider can let go and trigger them (hence the wire running from the base of the shaft into the missile). Still need to wrap some fine thread around the missile and the shaft to make them look lashed together.

Great work on the rough riders - the lances are really innovative too.
What the hell is that fortification thing? Is that from the new stronghold book or something?

It's the Aquila Strongpoint which was part of the Tempestus Firebase bundle. A great deal, as there's almost $80 of savings versus buying the components individually. I think these terrain pieces were released with the re-launch of 'Pockylips. The Firestrom Redoubt kits are particularly interesting, as the quad lascannons are HUGE, and could potentially be bodged onto a Hydra. I've done even more work on the Rough Rider's lances. Added some strapping around the missile and the shaft of the lance to make them look connected. Will try to get some more photos of them up.

Dun, dun, dun-dun-dun-dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! The Well-Endowed Eagle of Disapproval mounted on its emplacement: The emplacement in its alternate configuration of Vortex Missile battery: I still need to magnetize the missile nosecones so they can be popped off as missiles are fired during a game.

Baby, you magnetize my nosecones!

The magneterization-ation is currently in progress. One magnet glued to a carved out niche on the inside of the rim of the nosecone, and a corresponding magnet glued underneath the pad section.
I also magnetized the little steps for the small side doors so they can be popped off if I want to connect the emplacement to the Wall of Martyrs trench sections...
Thinking about seeing if I can source another Macro Cannon bit, because it plugs into the mantlet securely enough to not need glue, and bodging a Volcano Cannon onto it to create a Defense Laser.

Shirtless, buff manly-man brandishing a flamethrower and a sword and riding a giant lizard on top of a bunker just because. WIP of a Catachan Rough Rider and a Firestorm Redoubt. Look at how huge the quad lascannons are!

What insanity is this? I've been up all night painting this bastard. The second rust wash is drying. Still have to detail the door and paint all 8 heavy bolter emplacements. This looks amazing as always.. how did you get the metal-shades in on the walls? shame i didn't have the time lately to paint some more but it's coming.. still looking at all the nice work for inspiration..

Thanks, Gearboxx!
The metallic areas were done as follows: After the "concrete" sections were painted, washed, and dry brushed, I then went back over the metal areas with Abaddon Black, and then went over them with the old Boltgun Metal paint. Once the Boltgun Metal was dry I then liberally washed all the metallic areas with a very dilute orange paint mix (like most of an old hexagonal paint pot filled with water plus a couple of brush loads of the old Blazing Orange and Fiery Orange). I hit all the metallic areas two to three times with this wash, applied really heavily so that excess would randomly pool in areas that I would then "draw down" the walls of the Bastion to make it look like the rust was being washed down the walls by rain, etc.
I just picked up some of the new dry compound rust Citadel effect paint, and am going to try it out on my next Bastion.

Trooper, your magnetised vortex missile battery has inspired me,can't wait to see the finished result! Thanks! The magnetization of the nosecones has been completed. Essentially all I did was drill- and carve-out a bit of the inner rim of the nosecones, then super glued a rare earth magnet into each of them. Once the glue was dry I put a nosecone in place and then took a rare earth magnet and "dropped" it underneath the launch pad area, where it became attracted by the nosecone magnet and held to the underside of the piece, which I then flipped over and doused the lower magnets with superglue, and then repeated the process for each missile. Don't know when I'm going to get to prime all of this stuff, unless we get another freakish spell of warm weather that swoops in.

you mean you have been sucked in by the GW machine ;P That... Happened about 24 years ago. The new 'Nid kits are pretty amazing, though. The Exocrine/Haruspex kit can be built as both options with just a wee bit of magnetization. I suspect that the Crone/Harpy kit can be as well, but the magnetization will be a bit more fiddly to pull off.

Excellent. I might get around to getting some when I get chance to pop into the local GW, or fish around online. I'm a bit miffed I'm so busy at the moment, as my nid army was one of the first I started (along with guard). And I love it when I can buy a kit and make all the options with a bit of magnet fiddlyness
