This lot are II Sqn of the "Naval Ground Combat Assets". They are organised as IA8 Elysians. The 4 Vet squads are converted from Space Marine Scouts and have Carapace, Dems, and three Spec Wpns per squad. The Cmd Sqds and 2 Vet Sqds have Cam Cloaks, 3 Snipers and a Msl Lcr. The heads are System Troopers from Pig Iron. Basic Vet Tpr with shotgun Vet Tpr With Dems Charge There are a few chips as I played my 13 year old son yesterday and got severely Kung-Fu'd by his Orks. The Tpr with the Msl Lcr is modelled on myself in a situation I found myself in some 20 years ago. The little fella in the middle on his own is a Kasrkin counting as a non-Grenadier trooper with a Long Range Ground Scanner. The small vehicles count as Tauros and are converted from a Dark Angels Biker Uber Kung-Fu Death Wing or some crap like that. Bought by girlfriend before she realised that I couldn't use them. The two larger vehicles count as Tauros Venators and were converted from land Speeder Storms. The Drop Sentinels were converted from ... Sentinels but you probably figured that one out. This is about the only 40k stuff I've built in the last 18 months what with all my exams and stuff and I'm glad they're almost done. They're good fun to play but they rarely win.

There are a few close ups now and here is one of my six Drop Sentinels compared to a normal one. They all have Multi-Melta, Hvy Bolter and Flamer options. The whole idea of the design was to make it as squat and light looking as possible. I figured the equipment allowing it to drop would have been discarded at the drop site and so I chose not to model any of it in.

Here's a close up of all the infantry in their specialist groups. The Commanders. The pair on the left with the Bolt Guns are the Senior Officers of the two Cmd Sqds. The pair on the right are the the Sgts from the Fire Spt squads. The four in the centre with shotguns are the Asst Sqd Sgts. Here are the 8 Vox Ops. Dems. The charges are stuck on with magnets. Once it's been thrown I remove it. I have a tendency to try to use them again. Msl Lcr Teams Snipers. Four of them are Valkyrie Gunners with the HQ Squad sniper arms /cloak/rifle. The others are quite clearly Scout Snipers but I couldn't think of a way to make them more guard like. Melta Guns Flamers and Hvy Flamers Vets from the Fire Spt Sqds Vets from the Asst Sqds Do their bums look big in this? The alterations were simple. Take off all the skulls and the eagles on the breast plates. They look rubbish anyway but it was hard to keep the finish tidy. There are some square-ish block on the top rear of each boot that should have come off too in my opinion but at this point the lazy gene I inherited from my Father kicked in and I made up some Bullkrapp reason for them to remain. The vets shouldn't have pistols but it would have been a lot of work getting rid of them and they look OK anyway. There is the one detail on each vet that had to go. Those obscene cod pieces that hang off the belt buckle. I could hear all 70 figures weeping as I removed each and every one. It had to be done. Not just because they are ridiculous. Not just because they are vulgar. But mainly because ... [glow=red,2,300]I and I alone have the big balls in my army !!![/glow]

Glad you like the look of the army 0311, MGK, 3ff3ct, Yeti Fella. It did become more complicated and take a lot longer than I planned.
Not sure I can remember where the packs came from. The army as you see it was made from Scouts and Scout Snipers, Land Speeder Storm and Dark Angels Bikers so the packs must have come from there Somewhere.
Thank You Gerner for the compliment. I've just seen examples of your painting and wish I could do my camo cloaks like yours. I'm glad I'm not the only one who "snips" their scouts. Not as easy as it sounds is it, trying to put the creases and folds in to make them look like normal trousers.
I do wish the paint would stay on the metal heads though.
The real hard conversion work was the Tauros and Venators. I'll get some close up pics of them up soon.

Great vid! Makes me miss those days, a little.
Did you shave the back part of there armor, or did you use green stuff to fill in that grill thing?

Yeah ... I'm not sure if I miss them or not. Funny how you look back on the really dangerous incidents and smile. But maybe that's because we survived intact eh?
That vid was me running on the BIAP taxi from Baghdad International to the IZ in 2005 or 6. Did you serve in Baggers?
I've been trying to put a video up as my avatar like some other guys but I can't figure it out.
The grill was filed off, some days I would, some days I wouldn't, I just couldn't decide what I preferred. If a pack was fitted they had to be ground off.
What's the relevance of 0311? Is it the last four of your service number? I only ask as my last 4 was 1300. Sort of similar whilst being completely different.
If you know how to put up a vid as the avatar would you let me know?

I was in Ar Ramadi in 04. 0311 is the occupation number for USMC riflemen ( infantry). I totally agree with you, its amazing to think back to all the little things that happen over there, and smile about it.

Thank You everyone for the compliments. Here are some shots of my Proxy Tauros Venators. They've been converted from Land Speeder Storms. The wheels are from a 1:35 Tamiya 88mm. The heads are converted Vox Caster Heads but I'll be changing them for Pig Iron noggins to maintain unifrormity. They have interchangable Las-Cannon/Multi Laser and I did want a bloke up there manning the weapon but It's not possible if I want the weapon to rotate. Also I have a feeling that the whole model is too long. It looks too Humvee-ish. So I may take the central portion out and mount and mount the weapon in a small turret on the rear. Interested in what anyone thinks about that idea.

I can't even recognize the Land speeder storm. Amazing. Maybe you could do a tutorial how you did these? I think it will be a good idea to shorten them a bit, as you say.

You're models look great!... I really like all the camo cloaks and conversion work!.. the land speeders are phenomenal!
Tactically it'll help to have a shorter vehicle, easier to hide, manoeuvre and park...
40k tends to have vehicles at a smaller scale than the infantry, which is probably why they feel a bit too big...
they do look like they could carry a serious amount of kit when on a mission (which most 40k stuff couldn't boast - some stuff doesn't even have room for the engine).. they also look like they'd be easy to maintain with plenty of access to the mechanics.

I'm loving the snipers, but from the color sceme, the normal troops look a bit like they are wearing some kind of HAZMAT suits.

There's nothing better than re-opening a two year old thread. DadCRO, yes. Now you mention it they do look like great, big, baggy, rubber hazmat suits. Those poor guys must be sweating their boolarx off ! They are actually meant to be Naval fatigues, this lot being part of the Imperial navy and all that. I chopped the Venators and thought I'd put a couple of pics up.

The vehicle mounted weapon is now in a turret (a bit of sentinel) mounted on the rear. It also gave me the opportunity to add a third crew member which is more realistic. The central storage space was closed up and a battery pack placed inside that was made from two disposable razor covers. And here is a close up of my Tauros squadron. They could do with a bit of "enhancement", but I'm not too sure what exactly. Could be that they are just a bit plain. The last thing I'm going to do is turn an airfix jackal into a specialised tauros to act as Capt. Gerreks ride.

Stowage? Squadron/Kill markings? Camo like on the sentinels? Weathering? I really don't think they need much to be honest, although I agree that there's quite a bit of empty space that could be filled to make them seem more complete. Maybe even a couple of grab handles to make getting in/out a bit easier. Or Leman Russ exhausts.... or....

Grab handles and stowage would be perfect. Plus maybe some bullet holes as the likelihood of them getting in range for taking serious punishment from small arms is high, and even though not represented in game the half track idea adds to the feel that they are more likely to be shot at because less nimble.
