Mannfred was thought to be dead until the recent Storm of Chaos campaign. So, this is relatively recent in game time.
Not to mention that right now, the Empire has his crown locked away (not that they know it was his). And to be honest, this isn't the first time he's taken years upon years to rebuild his power base. Seeing as he is basically immortal anyway, he can afford to be patient.

Seeing as he is basically immortal anyway, he can afford to be patient. Yeah but 1,000 years is more than enough time to just bide your time. It's like nagash has just gotten lazy. Maybe he just decided he's giving up taking over the warhammer world and instead is perfecting his knitting craft or something. Also seriously mannfred dead? I knew he was alive since the VC book was extremely vague about it. I was more mad that after the skaven killed nagash he came back to life. His hand crawls away to safety. Give me a break that's the lamest excuse ever. Whatever i'm bitter because that felt like the skaven's greatest accomplishment and it was just undone by a 'Adam's Family-esque' moment. Ugh i'll be in my angry room.

Yeah, Mannfred had been thought dead by the Empire for a long while. If I remember correctly, it was mentioned in the 6th Ed. rulebook's fluff section. Then when Storm of Chaos came out, it was discovered that he wasn't actually killed.

Well mannfred is my favorite of the von carsteins anyway. I'd have to say there are a few other cool vampires though. One of my more favorite vampires is the one that slays the dragon and drinks his blood and no longer has the red thirst. Somebody once made rules for him and gave him heroic killing blow for obvious reasons. I think that guy is pretty bad ass actually.

Ah yes...Abhorash. Blood Dragons were the nuts, which is why a lot of people were very unhappy that the new book only really spent any time on the Von Carsteins.

Yes one of the attractive things about VC was that you could pick the blood line that matched your tastes. Although if the models are still available I might buy a couple for the joy of painting them.

I don't really like how old and crappy the models look in some cases. I haven't seen the previous army book but judging on the current new army book releases they will have awesome monsters, some new units, probably the same core, less items and banners but fairly good ones and decent to good magic. I'm not looking forward to them getting rid of the items though. The VC army actually had 3-4 good banners and plenty of good items esp. the helm of commandment. They can do whatever they want with the weapons though. The weapons could be better.

Yeah but that's like 1,000 years before present day warhammer. You mean to tell me when the world is in a clusterfornicate of chaos and such that he doesn't see weakness and try to invade. The skaven are gathering strength as are other races. Also whenever the skaven use a terrible plague to kill people they usually leave a lot of corpses. In fact any war leaves a ton of corpses and then bam you have your undead army just waiting to be raised. Besides it's not like nagash hasn't died and come back several times already. My point is more that nagash should have his own side. Vampires were welcomed at first by nagash but then he condemned them. He should have a host of underlings for his own side. It's a little hard to control a huge army even if you are the most powerful necromancer in history. Warhammer Armies: Vampire Counts. Why the hell would Nagash's undead be different to the undead of any other Necromancer?

Didn't the Tomb Kings and the Vampire's come about due to his meddling? Since they have gotten rid of him it is about time for him to create a new undead ruling class for himself. Maybe that is why he's been lying dormant for thousands of years.
Oh yeah, what was the deal with the Dark Emissaries in the end?

My only problem with the new undead is what would they be like? I did once mention werewolves being added to a vampire counts army and another thought they'd be cool as a seperate army. It could be cool. Who knows?
