Wow, you are right! Sorry then. Hmn, I don't think you should remove the growl/airintake. Then there is also the diffrence between the two windows and etc etc etc!

I managed to get some paint on it, working from a black undercoat up to a bright grey / white finish (to match the rest of my white templars). This is how far I've got.. I still need to even out the coats and put some silver over the engines etc and other details... time is getting more scarce for some reason, so I'm taking pictures when I can and posting while I've a minute spare! While the finish is a bit streaky, it has a nice 'weathered' feel to it, and I'm hoping with a few more coats it'll even out. Drybrushing with watered down paint is quite a tricky art.. the whole 'adding water' to a 'dry' process is almost a recipe for disaster, but most the time it works... only occasionally do I find I'm removing paint rather than putting it on!

This is looking good, and far better than the original Stormraven! But why didn't you spray it white and then wash it and do some battle damage? I think it would have been a lot easier. Looking forward to the end result.

Did some more work today, started on the landspeeders now.. and feeling guilty that the rest of the company is being ignored by my white brush ... maybe I'll give them all another layer of white as well... (I do this every now and then, when I find the energy!).
Little by little they're becoming white (er)..
I'll post once I've got the speeders to a reasonable level, maybe set a scene with a bunch of assault units too...
Oh.. and I got one of those big toy C17's... its really cool!.. well worth the money, my Big Mek is proper chuffed!

Okay.. so I mentioned my Big Mek was happy... here's why! It'll become the Big Bomma from IA8 - Raid on Kastorel Novem Oh, and the lights flash and it makes shooty noises.. much to my Meks joy!

Managed to Finish the LandSpeeders... so here's the air support. Question I'm facing now, is what spot colour should I use, lightning blue, emerald green, or red / orange (though someone I know uses grey with orange spot colour), or something different? (ps, I'm making a purple and pink slannesh fallen eldar army so both those colours are a no go)

While my distaste with the stormraven is well documented (which is the only reason I don't run space marine air cav), I'm not sure the straight wings pair well with a hull that hasn't been extended. One of the virtues of the down-angled wings was that they hid the hull compartment's excessively compact size. That's sort of on display now with the wings sticking straight out.
What are the plans with the turret? I've always thought that's actually one of the worst parts of it because of how it increases the height of the aircraft (and makes it look shorter).

thanks for the feedback!
I'm in agreement and am currently thinking to draft new rules for this creation, something which reduces the transport capacity to a more realistic amount. With this in mind the balance of the wing to load layout has made me more sympathetic to the look of the craft. It also ties in nicely with the other marine aircraft I have.
There will be no turret for the same reasons you give, I'm considering reducing the armament of the craft to make a much more transport focused role.

Tread, this time spray it black and then spray it white with a lighter layer.

now it has no weapons! (green stuff will be used to fill gaps) seems that it really doesn't matter what you do to this kit - it still looks ugly as sin!

Bravo! Very inspiring stuff, that assault cannon mounted upon the belly looks incredible. I'm always a fan of hobbyist's who hybrid in non-GW kit, not as much as your Big Mek, but I don't want to spark any heretical conversations.
Critiques & Suggestion's because I'm a filthy cuss like that; #1 I think you need a little more gubbin's behind your hurrican bolter's, more room for the ammunition & guts of the fire arms to cycle through.
#2 I want to see a ball turret gunner mounted on the back of that big Astarte's bird. Like he's ready to fend off fighter craft mounting the Machine Spirit's 6 'o'clock high.

I suppose you could remove the rear door and have another pilot chair sat on a Chimera turret, so it can turn in the back with Heavy bolters to defend your 6. Over all it's a decent set conversion and I love the battle harded look too, really works.

I was more thinking just sitting the ball turret on that circular hatch just behind the cock pit. but yeah, more dakka.
