The legs were terrifying to put together! I wasn't brave enough to attempt a stepping pose so I went with (what I hope will be) a fairly safe standing pose. Well there has been some updates. My paint order arrived and I've been doing a test run for the gold on one of the armour plates. I'm pretty happy with the results. There is a very fine silver highlight on the gold that I think I may need to make a bit more bold. What do you think? There is an inside and outside shot. (I couldn't decide which to post so I posted both!) I have a few days off work now so I'm planning on getting stuck into painting the main leg assembly.

I've been holding on to and using my old GW paints until I started painting the titan where I've splashed out and gotten some of the new GW paints. I must say I am impressed! Well done GW! Anyway, I did a bit a testing on the legs of the reaver and I'm very happy with the result of this brass colour and the new oxidisation paint.

The special effect really works. Good metallics so far.

Haha! I know what you mean. There is no way I would do this again and I'm not even halfway through the project.
No cannon under the groin plate however I'm sure the ones on his arms will make up for that.
I should have an update soon with some detail work completed on the knee pads.

So the painting was all going well until... The tape I used to mask off the knee pad worked great in that none of the white went where it shouldn't, however, it ended up pulling some of the black undercoat off with it when I removed it.

Houston, we have a problem.

Well, did you wash all the resin parts in soap and water before paining to clean off the releasing agents? Real masking tape should not take off paint like that unless something is preventing the paint from sticking in the first place.

I have washed all of the parts prior to assembly. Maybe I missed a spot as all of the black was covered by the tape and the rest of it is fine. I used proper 3M paint masking tape. At this stage I think stripping it and starting over would be the best bet. I don't have too much time in it at the moment and I don't fancy seeing the mark if I re-spray it.

You're lucky it was only the black, should be a very simple fix Very jealous of the Reaver! Great work mate.

The technical paints GW has made are some of the best things they've ever done; they work brilliantly well.
I cringed when I saw what happened to the knee plate, as that's happened to me in the past too with FW models, even after washing them. The solution I found was to work over the parts over with a toothbrush and not just soak them in the soapy water--give them a good, but gentle, scrubbing in the soapy water.

aye, a good scrub is needed, the releasing agent is pretty good at staying on!

So I got on the wagon and then fell straight off again! I didn't get too far. I have worked on the titan over the last few days however and completed a couple of armour panels. A mate and I have been having regular games and I've been reading some Black Library fiction which is helping with the motivation. A small update but at least it's an update! More to follow soon. (Hopefully!)

So I made a rookie error when first assembling the legs of the titan. I glued on the armour plates above the toes and thought I could get away with hand painting them. How wrong I was! Anyway, some cling wrap and painter's tape later and they were ready for spraying! The results came out pretty well. And I couldn't resist getting a sneak peek at what it's going to look like when it's finished. I'm getting closer!

Thanks guys. I'm not following any other build. I just got all of the parts out before I started and came up with my own plan on how to build it. So far it's been time consuming but fairly straightforward.

damn you! spent all my free time in the last day sawing flash/vents off mine found out i am actually missing a lower leg and got two right thermal cowls for my melta cannon and no left one going to keep an eye on this when it comes to building mine, you planning much in the way of magnets?

Bummer! Hopefully you can sweet talk forgeworld into sending you out some new parts.
I think I'm past the worst part of the build. Posing the legs was definitely daunting especially without really knowing how everything fitted on top. I went with a fairly safe standing pose and it is very stable. There are a few fiddly bits left to assemble but nothing can be as terrifying as gluing the legs of such an expensive model.
I'm not planning on using magnets. The main reason for this is I won't buy any other weapons to swap out and, for the one or two uses it'll get a year, it will only have to travel a few metres from my display cabinet to the table.
I've restarted work on the botched knee pad. I've stripped it back and it now has a new black undercoat. I'll get to the white over the next few days.

So, haven't updated this topic recently but I have been working on the titan. It probably doesn't look like much but I have put a decent amount of work in since the last pic. The gold on this leg is finished and I have to finish the bronze and touch up the silver and this leg is done. There's light at the end of the tunnel!
