I just completed my UPDATED 87 page codex for Gaunt's Ghosts. I'm extremely proud of this - it's fully formatted to the 6th edition codex visual and organizational standards and it's the culmination of a couple weeks continuous effort - and I mean that literally. This codex includes: - History of the Sabbat Worlds Crusades - A full force organization slot of units unique to the Tanith First and Only, set apart from choices in Codex: Astra Militarum - All your favorite characters and very specific, detailed and well-considered rules for their use. - Crusade allies - field Narmenian armour, Vitrian Dragoons, Phantine Thunderbolts and the Risen Saint herself! I hope you guys enjoy! I put a LOT of hard work into making this to a standard of excellence. I think I can safely say this is the BEST Gaunts Ghosts codex ever made. Such is the size of the codex (almost 11 megs!) that I can't post it as a forum attachment. I wish I could. And given the trouble I took to arrange it in the format it's in, I couldn't really take the time to format it to save space. For a lack of a better option, here it is uploaded to a file-host: Here is the torrent version for fans of The Pirate Bay: thepiratebay.se/torrent/10512470And here's the Google Docs version docs.google.com/file/d/0B6P_IpE7H5z7UlFpcVZqWTFRWXM/edit What is in the update? The updated version has on top of the original version many, many fixed errors as well as some refined balancing to rules and pts costs throughout the army and some clearer explanations as to how some rules work. If you have downloaded the original version, I highly suggest deleting it and re-downloading this one. On top of that it is 6 megs smaller!

You need to go through and proof read it, there's a lot of mistakes.

I had a quick skim and looks very impressive.
Having written a codex for space skaven I know how hard it is to proof read your own stuff and I haven't managed to add any visuals or fluff to mine yet.
I think you've got a great project there.
B.G - maybe highlight some of these mistakes to make it easier for chaosseer to amend them?

Great codex; very true to the books in terms of what you can take. Also a great way to get an infantry elite army with a low model count that would work perfectly on a woodland table.
'Stealther guardsmen' isn't a mistake, it's a 40k term, from the 4th edition guard codex and some of the novels.

Welcome to the forum, Chaosseer.
Please take this glass of water, taking care not to spill any, and use it to subdue a mob of 20 Orks.
*Points at incoming mob of Orks.*

Well, I like. A lot. I literally joined this board five minutes purely to reply to this. This was an amazing fan-made codex, and I'm planning on using this for my Work in progress tanith army, I'm working on an army list right now. That said, I've noticed a few mistakes: •page 19 the woodsmen of tanith rule reads 'all units in the first and only have...' And finishes there. •page 79 tanith infantry platoon: all the options all read that only squads with veteran sergeant may not take any special weapons or such. Is that intentional? Pages 83 and 84: scouts bonin, Mkvenner and Mkoll all read as 'Leyr may replace any scout'. Mkoll also doesn't appear to have the option to be fielded on his own.
I've also got a couple of suggestions. Eszrah's reynbow could do with a power boost, based on the venoms virulence from the novels. I'd suggest making it poisoned (2+) with to wound rolls of 6+ inflicting instant death. I'd suggest allowing gaunt to take Eszrah/brin milo even if he does take a command squad, as well as giving him an invulnerable save. I get that you're limiting the invulnerable saves in the army, but you could give him a 4+ or 5+ invulnerable and have it represent the blessing of the saint? And lastly, possibly give Mkoll the voice of command special rule, as he was certainly one of the regimental seniors.
Please take this all constructively, I'm absolutely in awe of what you've done with this list, you should be very proud of it all! These are just a couple of tweaks I'd make.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, and thanks for the compliments guy.
Just to clarify, the one missing rule is supposed to be Move Through Cover.
I'll have to go into greater detail later!

Thanks a lot for the input guys. I've recieved positive critical feedback on all the big forums, but not as much as I have on this forum. I've become aware of a good dozen mistakes, mostly cosmetic besides two non-cosmetic errors. I've already fixed them in the .doc file. I'll resolve some of the comments here for you guys.
On the topic of defeating Orks with a cup of water, don't worry about it. I've got an arsenal hidden in my beard; the Orks don't stand a chance. And that red stuff on my battle-vest there is actual scale mail. I'm ready to take on a legion of Orks, clearly.
On the topic of Infantry Platoons, it was an error. Ignore the additional statements in regard to Veteran Sergeants. The rest of the instructions are correct.
The error you noticed with Mkoll/Bonin/Mkvenner will be resolved, as will a number of similar errors with other units throughout the codex. Fortunately, these cosmetic errors are more plentiful than the non-cosmetic errors, which only seem to be three in number.
As for Eszrah's reinbow I wrestled with its power level. On one hand it's virulant, but on the other hand a Space Marine survived a hit with it. It took many to take a marine down, and after several the poison did not kill him. So I figured, against something better than a human the Reinbow is not ultimately powerful. That's why I gave it a strength of 4; attacking T3 units still will wound them on a 3+, and T2 on a 2+, but when shooting something tougher you'll have to roll a 4+.
I'll wrestle for a while with giving Gaunt an invulnerable save. But I think it's enough that he has an invulnerable save only when Milo is with him. I'm not sure about letting Gaunt take both Eszrah and Milo. How about this: you playtest the list for me. Field both Eszrah and Milo and tell me how it goes, if it felt overpowered or not.
In previous iterations of the codex Mkoll had the ability to issue an order to Scout Squads. I may give that back to him in the next version.
It'll be my intention to write a new version of the codex after some time has passed. I've already made all the obvious error fixes in the .doc file (there is maybe a dozen cosmetic errors, and two non-cosmetic errors). Between then and now I'll release an errata and FAQ, but I'm waiting for a little bit more feedback. I know of two non-cosmetic errors and a few rules which people have asked clarification on. But I'm going to wait until I have more feedback before I release something like that, so I can confront as much confusion as possible.
Also, I'm looking for additional help, if anyone's wanting to contribute to the project:
- Gaunts Ghosts fan art. I'm looking for things which are not too caricature, at least as realistic as the character art in the characters section. I am willing to accept submissions of art that is somewhat abstract, but preferably art which has no writing on it (unless the writing is in the art, like a phrase on a badge, or graffiti on a wall or something along those lines). Some of the picture use in this codex is from Games Workshop or Black Library publication; I'm willing to replace any of these with fan art submissions. I'm willing to accept any submission for the few characters who do not have pictures.
- Model submissions. I'd like to put up a full series of Gaunts Ghosts models. I'd prefer submissions of custom-built squads and characters rather than those models which GW released. It's not that I don't like them, I do, and I will include photos of them at length. But I'd like there to be more "fresh" content and less repetition. I'm looking for two kinds of photos: clear photos of the front and back of the model with a flat-toned background (white preferably), or dramatic shots of Tanith units on a well designed board, and if possible fighting enemies (of any kind, from Blood Pact to Necrons, it's all good). In the latter case I'd like the picture to only include the models and the terrain; no room as well. If you want to take a photo that shows what's around the board, please make sure the background is plain white. I'll relace the background with some kind of sky.
- Battle Testing / battle reporting. I'm desperate for this. I cannot test this codex enough. I want you to come up with any kind of list: imaginative, fluffy, competitive, over-powered, super-cheese, varied, excellent, weak, inclusive of many heroes, noninclusive of heroes, allied with Crusade Allies, and allied with any codex army. Let me know how the battle goes, how individual units perform, whether or not certain rules enhance/degrade the match, what's over powered, what's under powered and what works really well and when.
- Editing. I'm looking for anyone who is willing to receive the (eventually) updated .doc file of this codex and give it a full edit, hunting out and fixing every spelling or grammar error they find.
- Content creation. anyone who thinks they can write better content, or who can come up with good and interesting rules for characters or units I have not included may offer them to me via PM or via e-mail at spencerferri@yahoo.ca. For example - I was considering writing rules for the Outrider Bikes they used in one book. I didn't, in part because they were only used once, and in part 'cause I couldn't write any decent content for them because there was so little information on them. I'm also looking for people who are willing to come up with content to make this codex relevant to the game expansions such as Apocalypse.

-- I would change your email to say 'at' rather than @... you will avoid a lot of spam this way ---
I'm kind of up for helping in exchange that you give my skaven codex a look through, but since I have a diploma to write it's not so likely I can devote the necessary time to rules checking etc, I will however playtest the rules when I next play a game with my guard (probably a small force of ghosts will join a larger army).
I'm not sure about the rules around here, but having weapons concealed upon you and wearing armour before going forth with your glass of water may be perceived as cowardly cheating; shave and go naked like a true IGMB'er!

I'd give your Skaven codex a look through. Is it Hruddy or it reminiscint of WHFB Skaven? I don't know a lot about the Skaven in FB so I'll have to give you a pretty ignorant critique. As for choosing education over 40K fan projects, I'm very disappointed. What does learning get you? A job? Money? A family? Pfft. Fan codexes get you hundreds of views and dozens of comments! There is no price you can put on that! Btw, if you field some Tanith allies, field them Vanilla and let me know how the vanilla tactics work without hero support (or if you really want to field heroes, field a minimal amount).

I think vanilla would work fine, I tend to steer away from special characters normally.

That's a good idea, Treads. For our upcoming game you could bring 250 points worth of your Catachan/ Tanith and an extra 250 of Orks to cover them from the other side of the board. It wouldn't bother me if you controlled the Tanith entirely, as long as they don't begin targetting Imperial stuff. Also it would be weird playing on both sides... I'm not sure about the rules around here, but having weapons concealed upon you and wearing armour before going forth with your glass of water may be perceived as cowardly cheating; shave and go naked like a true IGMB'er! Well... We could confiscate the extra armour and weaponry (until he makes Lieutenant) but if he's Tanith then I guess he can keep the beard.

Please, no! You don't want to go rummaging through my beard. I didn't say I ONLY had weapons up there!
Btw all, I've updated my codex. A lot of minor fixes and a few major fixes make all the rules a lot more clear and functional. I had all those errors pointed out to me in conversation on all the great forums. It's really worth downloading the new one and deleting the old one, especially given that this new one is 6 megs lighter.

OK, I'll take a look. Thank you for sharing it again.
Your beard has now become my second armoury.
*Removes a power sword from chaosseer's beard.*
I mean, look at that...
Edit - I like the way Troops choices work for the infantry platoons. 3-6 squads without a command squad is sensible for the Tanith. That way you can have a low ranking Lieutenant HQ and spam Tanith platoons all over the place and get them with tread fethers.
