Ok, I almost have all of my steel legion infantry acquired. I currently have enough to run a full ccs, 1 vet squad, a pcs w/ 4 squads with a lascannon in each, yarrick and a primaris psyker. I also have 2 more squads in transit, and 7 chimeras in case I want to run all vets with a ccs. Anywho, onto the reason for the post.
I have two leman Russ tanks: Leman Russ battle tank, and the other has Pask that I will most likely roll as a punisher.
I want to expand my tankage...it seems the Basilisk or Wyvern would be a good fit. What would be more beneficial to add first for my heavy slots. If I ran both leman Russ as my HQ?

Imagine playing a game of 40k in you FLGS. Imagine that your mortal enemy is playing on the table beside you. Do you want to be able to shoot across the store to be able to ruin his day, or do you want to have something boring that doesn't have an absurd range that is pointless outside of Apoc games? The answer should be clear.

Wyverns are ridiculously good. A squad can pretty much point and delete an entire troop unit per turn, with lots of small blasts to guide and minimize scatter with the Multiple Barrage rule.
I'd get those, especially since you already have a good amount of high ST. shots...

Wyverns are pretty terrifying. Even troops in powered armor can be savagely mauled by all those rerolls.
My recommendation would be to get another Leman Russ kit and then use the extra weapon bits to both build a new tank AND change your default Battle Tank to some other configuration. Sponson weapons are cheap and powerful in the current rules unless you fire an ordinance weapon, which is why I would not field a Battle Tank or Demolisher.

yup.. wyverns.
I love my basalisk, but I field my mortar heavy weapon squads far more often (I don't own a wyvern). The mutiple barrage rules are great, and I can imagine a re-roll would make them even better.
Plus, the firing platform is a tank which is much better than a squishy HWS.

Thanks for the responses! I need something else other than leman Russ' for killing infantry. Looks like I will invest in some wyverns very soon.

I'd argue that nearly every variant is largely viable now, less so on the Demolisher and Executioner variants however. Thanks to A, the former being overpriced for what it does, and the latter having a tendency to kill itself more often than not. My preferred variants are the exterminator, the eradicator; for its current price its almost a steal, and the standard russ. The vanquisher is good, but it really becomes more viable when allocated to a tank commander, but its cost really starts to build when you factor in that mandatory second tank. Though, if you do choose that route, I'd suggest either making that second tank either a eradicator and use the shoot different targets order, or the standard, which can either help tackle armour, or again shoot other targets.
The hydra is fairly decent for its points cost, though it's more of a hard-counter to enemy aircraft, but you can often get a pair of them for around the price of a single russ. As a rule of thumb, I tend to avoid the hellhound variants, they're overvalued for what they can do, and with the lower leman russ costs, there's not much they can do what the russes can't, other than speed of course. Manticores are great artillery vehicles, and probably deserved their points increase. Deathstrikes I'd just wave over, but could be fun if spammed. Then there's the humble chimera, a great transport for keeping your commander safe or moving troops quickly around the table, unfortunately its effectiveness was hit rather heavily in the new codex, but it still is a capable vehicle.
