Hi All, So I’m playing a 2000pts vs Necrons game today at 6 and I need some help making a list. I’ve played several games against this guy’s army and I always seem to lose or tie. Typically he almost always uses 2 Monoliths, 2 squads of 3 Canoptek Spyders, a Squad of Immortals, a Doomsday ark, a Ghost Ark, and a couple squads of Necron Warriors.
The problem I’m facing is his list gives him the flexibility to destroy any type of list I build. If I go infantry heavy he can blast me with his Doomsday arc and then he plops the Monoliths in front of my blobs and makes quick work of them. If I go Mec heavy his entire army is well equipped to pretty much destroy everything and he utilizes his Monoliths to move his warriors around the map to secure objectives.
I have: 1 Valkyrie/Vendetta, ~100 guards (with lots of special weapons), Psykers/priests/commissars, 2 Wyverns, 3 squads of 3 heavy weapons (magnetized for any type), Aegis defense line, 3 Chimeras, 1 Manticore, 1 hellhound, 1 basilisk, 6 scout sentinels, 1 vanilla Leman Russ battle tank, 1 vanilla Leman Russ Demolisher, 1 magnetized Demolisher Leman Russ Kit, 1 magnetized basic Leman Russ Kit, Ogryns, and Scions. So any advice on successful builds people have had in the past vs Necrons would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Take out his templates! and anything fast thatll get into your lines quickly. focus fire at one unit until its completely gone, dont give him the chance to bring them back up ! his fliers ar nice, but if you can get your vandettas in there, they should be able to bring them down, use melta vets in your vandettas and drop them in close to the monoliths and take them out. your manticore can kill most of his vehicles. heavy weapons i absolutely destroyed necron warrior squads with regular mortars... just 3 squads of mortars, hitting one warrior squad per turn for necrons or any army really its all about focus fire, wounding necrons doesnt do anything. Thanks for the advice Fullmetaljacket. Since my post I’ve played two 2000pt games against Necrons and lost both. Game 1 he got extremely lucky with objective cards and despite me destroying 90% of his army he still took the win by roughly 2VPs (I got terrible objective cards; if they had been a little different I would have won). Game 2 was close and a total bloodbath. At the bottom of the 6th turn he out maneuvered me with 2 Ghost Arks and took the win again. Game 1 the Wyverns were the MVP killing like 500pts worth of Necrons. Game 2 was less notable in terms of MVPs but my scout sentinels managed to wipe out most of his Scarabs turn 1 with a volley of multi laser shots. I totally agree it’s all about focus fire, I think my problem though is I avoided focusing on the Ghost Arks. With AV 13 at 4HPs and the broken jink save rule I didn’t want to sink everything into killing them. Next game I’m going all-or-nothing to kill the Ghost Arks.

Sounds like they were tearing you up, just take out priority after priority. focus fire on each turns most dangerous threat, use orders on lascannon heavy weapon squads to take down those ghost arks, keep your tanks safer from guass weapons by making sure they either stay out of their range or at least get some kind of cover save. an Agies defencle line can go a long way, with a quad gun, you can take out fliers if he has them.. keep all your special weapons safe, if he has fast close combat stuff make sure if he makes it to you that he has to assualt a 10 man cannon fodder squad not a special weapon heavy vet or command squad that can take those monsters down after the finish off your cannon fodder. Its a brutal tactic for your men but its necessary and acceptable losses lol When the cards arent in your favor all you can do is your best, and if the game came as close as you said it did in the second one, all you can do is have fun and sacrafice something to the dice gods hahaha If he doesnt move the ghost arks i dont think he gets jink and if he moves he only gets the small blast template. you could always try dropping a special weapon squad or vets from a Valk. next to them with meltas! outflanking sentinals with auto cannons and lascannons usually can do the trick to, hitting the rear or side armour good luck with your next games! let me know how you did!
