Hi all Not been play Guard or 40k long, I've got about 15 games under my belt so far. What I was wondering was, is there any reason if a standard leman Russ takes sponsons that they can't be fired first before the battlecannon?
This way all shots can fire a full BS.

No; I think the rules specifically state that you start with the longest ranged weapons. Granted most people roll different coloured dice just to differentiate the shots, at the same time; this is a time saving mechanism, nothing more... Even then if you shoot the ordnance weapon (the battlecannon) then all other shots are 'Snap shots'. It would be cheating otherwise.

Not sure about the 'longest range first' rule.
However, while i like the logic behind this idea, I think that as long as the ordnance is being fired it automatically causes all other shots to be 'snap' shots regardless of if they fire first or second.

its a case of you know your going to fire it so in a sense you have to declare that, meaning which ever you fire first is does not matter you would fire the sponons as snap shots regardless of which order you resolve the attacks. As your new to the game we can give you some slack for asking but normally id say your trying very hard to bend the rules and the wording of the rule book lol no worries for now though.

Thanks guys. I will be joining thread in the penal legion as I am trying to push the rules a little. Speaking of which, using a leman Russ executioner with plasma sponsons. Can the turret and sponsons fire together as they are all plasma cannons, or do the two sponsons fire after into a squad with less men to get under a template.
I've got an idea what the answer will be as this does smell a little cheesy.

they can fire together but the turret and sponsons have slightly different stats so best to fire seperatly if your still learning. Also remember to roll for gets hot on your plasmas. also another reason not to roll all of them together as you may roll 3 1's and wreck yourself lol if you roll one after the other you can stop before inflicting too many hull points.

Yeah, sorry, apparently in 7th you get to choose which weapons to shoot first, so you can shoot tactically in some instances. This is still no excuse to circumvent the snap shots from a vehicle firing ordnance weaponry.
Getting the rules wrong again; Hah! The Penal Legions will never get me !
*Fires a water-pistol vaguely in Tread's direction before running into the sewers*

The Executioner cannon isn't ordnance though, IIRC... Isn't it heavy?

Yeah the Executioner, the exterminator and the eradicator (nova cannon isn't ordnance) are all OK..

I have been known to field a Lehman Russ HQ tank squad with a Punisher/Pask and 2 Executioner w/ Plasma sponsons in battles before. Pask saved many a GETS HOT on the plasma shots. Having the ability to do tank orders and target 2 different units is nice. I've been known to also put the tanks behind a ADL and with camo netting getting +3 cover saves for tanks is nothing to laugh at.

7ed rulebook P164-gets hot
A vehicle instead suffers a glancing hit on a further roll of a 1,2 or 3.

Don't forget that vehicles essentially get a 4+ save vs gets hot. How so? I'm looking at the box that has all the Gets Hot rules, in the little book that is on page 164. Right after it talks about characters not getting Look Out Sir against it and before it starts Gets Hot and Re-rolls it says: "A vehicle instead suffers a glancing hit on a further roll of a 1,2,3." The instead part is instead of suffering a wound. So after rolling a 1 to hit you only suffer a glancing hit 50% of the time.
