Hello IGMB, I've been browsing these boards for quite some time and finally decided to introduce myself so I can begin posting and becoming a part of the general discussion. I've been browsing dakka as well but I'm a bit more interested in the Imperial Guard side of things that this forum seems to encompass.
I've been playing 40k since 2004 and started as a Tau player. I ended up becoming quite fond of the Imperial Guard toward the end of my early 40k days and that lasted right up until the day I ended up selling everything I owned. I picked up the game again around 2012 and began a small Imperial Guard army. My army has grown since but I've yet to build a force over the size of 1250pts (which is where I currently reside) and, therefore, haven't had much ambition to make it to a gaming store to play a game yet. Although I live in central New Jersey, there aren't too many stores that have large 40k following near me (that I know of at least).
Overall, I'm just saying hi and preparing to take part in the general 40k discussion as well as trying to gain some great tips from you guys!

Ah, a new addition to our ranks. Here, have this shotgun. If you ram it into a Great Unclean One's Eye, and fire both barrels, you may well kill it!

Hi! Nice to have you on board! So what regiment you doing? Cadia? Another? Or your own? Any pics? Thank you! My army is a standard Cadian 8th color scheme although I originally began to design it with the idea of it being a rebuild of the Cadian 7th after their original obliteration at the battle of Tyrok Fields during the 13th Black Crusade but I haven't completely settled on it yet. I will definitely post some pictures in the post thread at some point soon. Thank you sirs! Those will be quite handy in the coming battles for the Imperium! On a side note, has anybody else been reading the Ciaphas Cain novels?

Welcome to the board.
I think a lot of us have read the Cain novels. I recall reading the first 3 at least but years ago so the details are a bit foggy now. They're hilarious books..

Ah ha! Looking forwards to seeing pics. I think the idea of a re raising of a regiment is quite cool.
Could imagine some hand picked officers and Sargents from existing regiment reassigned to the new regiment and given the task to whip up the new recruits.
Also, banners! Tacken from the walls of a palace were they have been since they were found in the dust of the aftermath of the last battle. Given to your regiment in a ceremony and raised again!!!

Welcome to the board. I think a lot of us have read the Cain novels. I recall reading the first 3 at least but years ago so the details are a bit foggy now. They're hilarious books.. Thank you! Im actually on the third book now as I've, recently, gotten heavily back into the hobby. I quite enjoy the humanist perspective that Cain offers throughout. Much like getting into the head of a man in such a position and the ideas he actually has versus what he fights for. Quite funny so far. To Vulpine (I still can't figure out how to quote two posts in one...) i will definitely get around to posting some pics soon! It's much the standard of the Cadian 8th although I haven't gotten around to adding a standard bearer yet though I believe I should now. My original intention was to have a regiment that had some correlation to the modern militaries of the world, i.e.; officers with lasguns, not as many close combat weapons and etc. until I came to the realization that the codex actually does not support these loadouts and probably neither do most local gaming stores or tournaments.

I believe Death Corps of Krieg can have Srg with lasguns?
I think it should be a straight swap mind!

Ah that could do it, I'll have to start using my desktop more often since I'm usually on the forum through my smartphone.
I believe you are correct about Krieg sergeants with lasguns. Essentially use the Krieg army list for my Cadians?

Defo, think that should work!
Not sure what you might not have access too doing that? If anything.

Possibly standard chimeras and basilisks? Regardless, it would be pretty nice to have immobile, trench-style artillery cannons on the field!

Yeah, if you can build it in to fit... Don't know why Sargents don't get the choice tbh. Makes sence for squad leaders to also have riffles. Some guard squads you end up with only 6 lasguns after Hev weps and special.

I think a lot of it is supposed to be based on WWI where I think a lot of officers still actually carried a close combat weapon in lieu of a rifle essentially exiting the era of line formations and imperial-style "gentlemen's" combat.
I honestly wish I could have officers with lasguns considering they are fairly effective, especially at double-tap range.

I give my officers shotguns. Fits well for urban warfair I know a Cadian company commander can use a shotgun. Can the lieutenants as well? Your right!!! They can't! Dang!!! Think this needs a new thread started... 1) Why can company commanders have shotgun but not lasgun? 2) Why can company commanders have shotguns but platoon commanders cannot? They both can have Boltguns! 3) Why can neither have a lasgun? 4) Why can't a Sargent have the option of a lasgun? And, I'm thinking jungle fighters and urban, why not a shotgun? They can all have Boltguns???

Haha these are all great questions and sadly they can't have these options. Though I'm starting to consider boltguns for my officers since that seems like a nice alternative and close enough to be a rifle.
