i use ratlings. They get +1 to cover saves, and can opt to be pinned instead of fleeing. U also have the advantage of numbers. Even with 2 SW squads, u can only have max 6 snipers, whilst u can take up to ten ratlings. Special weapon squads would be better suited to having demo charges, which if ur using snipers, is completly usless

ratlings by far, just plop em in a bunker or building, poof, +2 or +3 armour save instantly, bescides, special weapon squads have the BS of a guardman, the ratlings have the BS of a space marine

ratlings i even think they are cheaper yes the doctrine point is less diverse ex// special weapon squads you can get sweet melta squads etc and get snipers but i would totally do ratlings if you dont like the models just use regular snipers people wont mind

Ratlings. They're models may be ugy but they are the best snipers we have at our disposal.
If you hate the models enough you could simply use the regular sniper models.

My commander's a bit of a renegade, so I was thinking of using captured Tau drones (with some Servitor upgrades) in place of ratlings.

Yea I like the ig sniper models a lot more, so i'd use them, despite the awesomeness of the ratlings. Either that or just lop off the snipers legs and call them ratlings

ratlings are way better. so if you dont like the models another option is to convert some lord of therings hobbits with snipers and helmets

Just use ratlings, they're sooo much better then the almost-unusable support squads. I'd just use cadian/catachan snipers and use the ratling rules. Say that they have elite sniper training and camo that gives them the ratling special rules.

I love snipers and ratlings!!! You should get 10 ratlings and 2 niper squads. Usually I like bringing the ratlings up closer than the sniper squads though. Over all it is great being able to pick off enemy players before they can engage you! ;D

ratlings are the stupidest models in ig. hopefully with the new codex they'll just combine snipers and ratlings or something...i thought about using snipers as ratlings...but people and the current rule book seem to be so bent on "what you see is what you get" that it would be a headache to have to explain how gay a ratlingh model is every time i play.

Snipers got a over all buff in 5th. Before they hit on 2s, now they hit with BS like normal but gain Rending. (still wound on 4+) So overall your ratlings (never use the normal snipers, they are bs 3 and too expensive) will actually be killing things other than light infantry. In fact a ratling has a 8/27 chance (29.6%) to kill a MEQ. So 10 ratlings should kill ~3 MEQ a turn I plan on beefing up my model count (i use the cadian sniper model) very soon

Ratlings are annoying, but think about it: you pay 11 points, you get a model with 4 BS, an 36" range weapon that wounds on a 4+ with no armour save. That's intense, and you get 10 of them! Waaaay better than normal snipers!

They still can pin the hell outta stuff also.
Rending + Pinning. A squad or two of rattlings is a sure thorn in the enemies side.

use ratlings, even if it just rules with sniper models, plus if they panic the automatically go to ground

I take 5 ratlings. And between cadians and catachans there are 5 different sniper models.... convenient no? I've never had anyone give me a problem about using non ratling models. Most people agree that rats look retarded. I've been very happy with their performance too. They're great for killing leaders that aren't wise enough to take a bodyguard. Especially now that we can shoot at any target.
