This reminds me of how i hate tomatoes and some other things. There's plenty i hate like when my brother-in-law makes scrambled eggs with cheese and tomatoes and other crap. Seriously why'd you have to ruin good scrambled eggs? Also last i remembered scrambled eggs were the only eggs i enjoy.

Not only are bananas delicious, they're extremely healthy. I petition that Trooper be force-fed two bananas a day until he likes them. That's how I grew to enjoy mushrooms. And lost your sanity. I had already lost my sanity by that point.

Pfft. No dissertation for the program I'm working through... Not even a thesis is required IIRC. But yes, you people who enjoy bananas are all deviants. Deviants, I tells ya! <.< >.> All bananas must die.

Today, the papers are done except for some minor editing... now I have cramming for two tests next week and the worst part of my semester will be over. Also, the doctor tells me I may have this insomnia thing...

I saw that a few days ago, showed it to a friend who said they didn't even have to dance...they could have just all been standing around in various poses as they switched thier suits on and off and he would have been impressed.

Also, the doctor tells me I may have this insomnia thing... FFE: Welcome to the club. I am diagnosed and have learned to live with it. Me as well. I've been dealing with it for the past nine years or so. I'm resistant to the commonly prescribed sleeping medications, and have had adverse reactions to some of them as well, so my doctor had to get creative in finding something that sedates me enough to get to sleep without it being debilitating for me during the day. Anyhoo, FFE I am jealous that your papers are done. I still have to finish writing my term paper that is due on Sunday... Speaking of which, I should probably go work on getting the rest of the reading I need to do done so I can work on finishing it...

From what I recently learned of what a 'paper' is to american college students (about 3 pages). I laugh in your faces.

Now, I'm fairly uneducated...but from what I understand a collage paper is more like 9 pages.
I think I did that once, a long time ago...

Today I have been playing Medieval 2 Total War all day. I have slowly been building MASSIVE armies and I have pummelled the French relentlessly, they only have 1 city left, and I'm contemplating toying with them. They shall keep their one city, but I shall use them for training my troops.

From what I recently learned of what a 'paper' is to american college students (about 3 pages). I laugh in your faces. Term papers for my graduate classes are 10-15 pages, typically. Not nearly as much writing as required for a thesis or a dissertation, and unless I'm rudely surprised by having to write a thesis in my capstone class, I will be glad to not have to deal with preparing one. However, since 3/5 of the classes I've taken have required a term paper. Projecting that ratio out across the 12 total courses required for the MS in biotech, it actually adds up to quite a bit of writing for term papers alone (say six classes times 10-15 pages each), and that doesn't even factor in the writing required for the multiple weekly assignments that each class typically requires. However, I recall you mentioning a few weeks back that the style guide for your university was a pamphlet of 30 pages or so. The style guide used by my university (APA 6th edition) is a book of over 250 pages. So there. Neener-neener, bleah and such. All bananas must die.

We have individual style guides per department, so no need to have one huge document covering all different styles. Although the US college system is weird. Since you don't do a 3 year course in one subject but seem to be allowed to do whatever you want until your final year and you major in one subject (I think that is how it works).
By graduate classes do you mean undergrad or Post-Grad?

By graduate classes do you mean undergrad or Post-Grad? Yeah I have never really liked the way we do our high level education. We wast allot time (first two years, usually), before we actually start into our chosen field. I got lucky and started studying mine from the start. But I must say we as a nation do allow almost everyone (right or wrong) the ability to go to college. I really like and believe in our junior colleges, they gave a fighting changes to go to school.

In the UK you have to choose what subjects you want to take (broadly, you still have to do English, Maths & Science) at year 9 which is when you are 14.

Since you don't do a 3 year course in one subject but seem to be allowed to do whatever you want until your final year and you major in one subject (I think that is how it works). By graduate classes do you mean undergrad or Post-Grad? Graduate as in Master's degree, or post-grad. Individual style guides for each department sounds completely insane! The APA (American Psychology Association) style is one of three, IIRC, that are typically used by American universities. It may be a ton of work to master the APA style (I'm in my third semester and am still constantly looking things up in the book to make sure I'm citing sources properly), but since the whole university uses it, versus individual departments, it makes things much easier when I have to take supplemental courses that are outside of the biotech program... But yeah, we don't have a three year course in just one subject. Instead we take multiple classes over the years that mostly relate to a specific field of study. Right now I'm finishing up the classes for the biotechnology Master's core requirement, and next semester I'll get to start taking the specialization classes for my biodefense and biosecurity concentration. So for example: my major is biotechnology and I take core courses covering Bioethics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology Techniques, Bioprocessing and Business of Biotechnology, and Project Management. Once I finish them I get to take my biodefense and biosecurity specialization courses which cover Biological Warfare Agents, Bioterrorism (a basic course then an advanced course), Homeland Security, Disaster Preparedness and Response, Interagency Cooperation and Global Countermeasures, along with a capstone course. Our undergraduate system runs in a similar fashion, in that you have a major and classes that are required to complete it, with some majors offering specializations. For example, My B.S. is in biology, however I took a specialized course path that focused on microbiology and immunology, hence I have a more specific degree--which wound up of being more use than just the general Bachelor of Science in biology which some of my friends (who weren't pre-med or pre-vet med) took when it came to finding employment upon graduation. The difference is that the undergrad scheme has core courses such as English, Math, etc. that don't really relate to your major, along with electives that are taken to bulk out the credit hours required. IIRC only about a third of my undergraduate credit hours were directly related to biology, while the rest were what I deemed to be "filler."

The most valuable college classes are those 'filler' classes. Unless you go into the field for which you majored, all those specific classes are so much wasted money.

It's a liberal arts education. It's there so that if you don't get a job in you field, you aren't completely screwed backwards up all the rivers.
(You know... other than having wasted money on a degree you probably didn't need.)
