Today is my first proper venture into the underhive, and I'm very scared. @ Reds/hookah: Haha silly Argentines want oil and think it's a good idea to threaten a nation with vastly superior military to theirs. @ Kommissar Orren: I know you said it hurts, but try lying flat on your back on the floor for a while. Perhaps after a heat pad/hot shower so the pain isn't so bad. @reds as well. The funny thing is we tried to negotiate to share the oil, since it would be beneficial to everyone, but the Argies refused flat out, and then complain about us stealing oil and being all imperialist. You can't win with some people. Still they Argentines only complain about it when they have internal issues they are trying to distract from. In my opinion this whole thing will blow over in a few years when the Argentines get bored of all this nonsense, and as you say, their internal issues become too big to ignore. They have virtually no grounds for any claim to the islands and everything they've been doing is just alienating them, and because they've managed to persuade the rest of South America to support their 'cause', the rest of the continent too. If they keep it up, especially not letting Falkland ships dock, the UN/NATO/EU will end up putting sanctions on them... then they'll get support from a nuclear Pakistan/Israel/Iran and that'll no doubt lead to WW3, then we'll all die... worst case scenario. And Reds, it's interesting to hear that even foreigners don't see what the Argentines are getting at. I often feel my views are warped by the British media(which they are).

Earlier today I had a game of Star Wars: Empire at War with FKM, it had to be short as it was during my lunch hour so in the end we opted for a 1 vs 1 Space Battle, with me playing as the Empire and FKM playing as the Rebel Scum. I started off by instantly teching to Space Station Level 2 and from what I saw it seemed that FKM was building X Wings and Y Wings. After capturing the closest asteroid mines (Building upon them and starting the economic upgrades as soon as the construction was finished) I headed for the mine in the center of the map, having arrived first I was confident he had not capped the first 2 yet and just before I had the building fully under my control a wave of 4 X Wing fighter squadrons extended their S foils into attack position, I sent my Tie fighters into the fray to merely weaken them and by me additional time to allow me to create a counter attacking force. After about a 30 second dog fight, FKM began to build upon his gains taking control of the 3 nearby satellite defenses and beginning construction of his newest economic asset. He then for what I believe cockily attempted to scout out my base with a single squad of X Wings myself being the opportunist that I am relished this chance at free piece meal, sending my resupplied free squadrons of Tie Fighters at the lone fighter squad. At this point he started the friendly banter saying "I am going to abuse the hell out the S Foil ability." as I starkly replied, "You wont get away Rebel Scum." Hyperspacing an Accumulator cruiser in front of their destine path, laughing as its hanger bays spilled additional Tie fighters to well tie up the enemy, while the cruiser banked to bring all its firepower to bear. After killing off this straggler I began my attack on the central resource point, sending my attack craft to neutralize the conclusive missile launcher defensive satellite and my cruiser to destroy the 2 anti fighter defensive satellites. FKM moved the bulk of his force to the central location to ward off my attack, but by the time he had reached the middle my force had disabled his established defenses, however his force still proved to be a problem and if not handled correctly could have successfully repelled my small attack group. My Tie fighters quickly engaged his Y Wing squadrons while my cruiser took pot shots at the attacking X Wings, eventually the vessels hanger bays seemed to have emptied and without intervention the skirmish could have been lost, luckily I had another 2 Accumulators in reserves (The cheeky Frakker that I am) hyperspacing them in and dispatching the Rebels in little time. After securing the central zone I consolidated my attack sending my available forces to his space station and selecting my bomber wings to destroy his shield generator and supply depots. Simultaneously I sent Tie Fighters to his other asteroid mines around the map and hyperspaced in additional Accumulator cruisers to destroy the rest of his income generation. With this secondary objective accomplished I began a pincer maneuver and slowly but steadily destroyed his space station. He also brought in Han Solo who by himself probably killed the largest majority of my attack craft. Good times.

@jarms: I'll talk about it later. I relied too heavily on the y-wings which took forever to do something. Although they did manage to take down his main star destroyers after a while or at least reduce their efficiency to nothing. I've got some ideas on what i'll do next. This is a game i never play esp. with space battles. I figure as rebels i gotta hit and run with my force a lot more. Gotta use those special abilities . Also thank god han solo took out those fighters at least. I've gotta say the thing i hate most about that game is each star destroyer has a hangar bay which poops out fighters and bombers like you wouldn't believe. I don't even know if taking them out early will save you. I remember at the end of our game i told jarms i wanted a do-over. I know some things i'd rather use next time around. Also i actually remember the first 'rebel scum' banter i replied with 'suck it' which i was joking of course. Btw those rebel scum that wouldn't 'get away' did . Then again they probably eventually died anyway so there you go. Btw i went han solo because all you had was fighters and capital ships. Last i remember han solo kills fighters really well and can't get hurt too well except by tartans and even then he could probably take at least one tartan in one on one.

@jarms: Although they did manage to take down his main star destroyers after a while or at least reduce their efficiency to nothing. I think you killed the original 3 and crippled the other 3. I was expecting losses and in the end I think I hyperspaced another 3 in supported by a single tartan. I accept your challenge perhaps over the weekend I will see you on the galactic front.

No Corellian corvettes FKM? I find that those things are awesome for gaining fighter supremacy. In fact, I usually don't build X or Y wings at all. I use Correllians to take out the strike craft and nebulon-Bs to do most of the heavy hitting. Nebulon-Bs are pretty much the best ship in the game.

Well you get victory class star destroyers, so stop your whining! They are a tech level higher than nebulons though. I just hate acclamators, they are rubbish.
Then again, I like playing as the Consortium...

Well you get victory class star destroyers, so stop your whining! But I don't use those, they have less guns and cost about 50% extra, with less hull strength.

They have ion cannons though, which rip through those strong rebel shields in seconds.

Fair enough I suppose. I just find the best way to use rebels is to do hit and runs with corellian gunships (I just looked up the ships and forgot about these awesome things!). Missiles never hit them because they are so fast, but their missiles can take down your shield generators before the nebulons attack.

Yes, I do love the Corellian Gunships and shields almost non existent in any of my games as it is always the first target. I win by attrition having just 25 Tie Fighters and 6 Tie bomber squadrons without even considering my capital ships can be formidable as well indeed and even taking attack craft loses into account I will get them all back in due time.

Nebulon-Bs are pretty much the best ship in the game. Unlike in every other Star Wars thing. Just look at it! Of all the things in Star Wars, that's the one with the biggest "Shoot me here!" sign.

Now I want to play some more Fires of War. I know what Trooper would say though... WHY ARE YOU NOT WORKING ON THE RAMILLES!?!?!?!?!?!? *Lashes Trickstick* This morning I located and unpacked the box of books that contained the kit manuals for my Master Grade Gundam models which have been built but not yet painted. Now I will be able to disassemble, paint, and apply decals to them with confidence. I had actually been quite worried that they got lost during the move, in which case I would have been SOL for decal application, so it's quite a relief that I was finally able to locate them. Time permitting I shall have to tackle the backlog (not to mention the kits that are piled up which I haven't built yet) and I think I'm going to start with the Zeon suits because, frankly, they're cooler... ;D I am going to celebrate by having sushi for lunch.

Today I took the plunge and ordered parts to build my first computer... I'm not sure how well this is going to go but... Also, I realized it's time to start getting ready for summer, which includes bathing suit shopping... time to see if all the gym time paid off or not...

Today, I've been reading about what the Argentinians have been doing to try and get the Falklands back in the past few decades. It seems like they're being somewhat stupid about it... Reds

Israel would probably support the UK/US/EU/NATO whatever in this event, since they ain't got friends anywhere else. Neither Iran nor Pakistan have the projection capabilities to support Argentina (both their navies are a joke). Pakistan is fast working its way to being another Afghanistan-style mess. While Iran seems outwardly powerful and militant it has a lot of internal issues. With rising popular dissident (the Iranian people have been watching the Arab spring) and conflict between the power of the Religious leadership on one hand, and the apparent rising power of Ahmadinejad and his supporters. Inflation is rampant in the country and the economy is tanking. WW3 won't start over the Falklands, the Argentine military is in a worse state than it was in 1982, and while the RN doesn't have any carriers at the moment we currently have a garrison of some 3,000 Royal Marines, two Eurofighters and one of the most advanced Anti-Air destroyers (HMS Dauntless a new Type-22) is being dispatched to patrol the Falklands this week. Unless they develop teleportation devices it'd be damn hard for any Argentine troops to land there.
