Greetings IGMB denizens,it's been a while. I thought I'd stop by and see how you're all doing.
I've just picked the first book of the Flashman Papers, looks pretty promising, although reading a novel set in a period of history that I've done a fair amount of research into is quite confusing, the fact and fiction tends to blur a bit.
@adken. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Sam Smith, although I'll admit that his voice leaves me wondering at the extent of his masculinity, no man should be able to sing that high.

Hes pretty damn camp in interviews and pretty shy I guess since I randomly read he was quite old before having a relationship... no idea where I saw the fact, but yeah... hes no Bruce Dickenson! How are you? Not seen you in these parts for a while

Flashman (and everything GM Fraser wrote, for that matter) is freakin' awesome. If you've read the Commissar Cain novels you'll see where the idea for it came from.
Flashman is part of what got me interested in British colonial history and, ultimately, wargaming. The books are raunchy, violent, and rude, but there's quite a lot of real history in there. Fraser's memoirs of WWII ended up inspiring my Guard army.
Just finished a book on USS Wahoo and her officers who revitalized the US submarine force in WWII. My dad had a stuffed wahoo on the wall when I was small, which drew me into the "Silent Service."

Today, I discovered a new candidate for the " Most Unfortunate Name" award. I'd post the actual name but Trooper probably would probably explode.

Got my national security vetting cleared today so I start the new job at the start of October (they sent me an email 85 days ago saying I got the job but had to be cleared first). Also im getting well into red dragon! Loving the campaign as its like modern total war. Ive made about 15 decks which are all likely a waste of space

Yes, it was essentially my desire to read more Cain-esque fiction that lead me to Flashman, I pretty much finished the first book in an evening and I concur that they are pretty darn brilliant. @adken. Thanks, I'm doing pretty well at the moment, my loss of interest in the hobby led me to stop posting a while back, but having realised how silly that is I thought I'd come and say hi/

And I may have just inadvertently re-created the first battle of Ypres in my kitchen. Who knew that dried dog pee stains still had enough ammonia left in them to react with bleach and evolve chlorine gas? This guy does now...
Kitchen floor is clean now, though.
Edit: Actually, I may have created chloramine, as when I went into the Super BasementTM to turn on the bathroom fan as part of Operation Open All Doors and Windows and Turn On All Fans, there was no smell in the basement, and as chlorine is heavier than air, and the door to the Super BasementTM is off the kitchen, I would have expected a gas pocket down there.
Either way the following song seems appropriate to share:
As a side-effect, I can't use my kitchen, so nommy-nommy Thai food has been ordered for dinner.
