Yeah we've been busy playing 6th, not 7th. I finally got the 7th rulebook when the Stormclaw box came out, thanks to Empty, but we haven't played it yet.
The rules look good but I don't like the multiple FOC 'force roster', nor 'unbound', unless its a special game; I'd rather just have the old FOC back... In the end we might just houserule it.
I'm running Astartes now. If I ever get back into IG (which I'm sure I will) then I'll contribute.
___
Its my birthday tomorrow. A very special auntie gave me some money and I spent some in the supermarket, bought 2 boxes of SM bikers, Burger king on Sunday and the rest is going to the broadband ISP.

Happy early birthday, Chem! So today my trip to Petco and then to the comic shop resulted in these acquisitions: The coolest dog toy ever (it even has a squeaker in it for extra "ERMAHGERD... SQER."), another 6" Black Series Biker Scout, and a dice bag with the Imperial emblem on it.

Excellent. My new Scout Trooper isn't bow-legged (like the first on I bought) so I can actually pose him off of the Speeder Bike... Shadow with the AT-AT squeaky toy. It's almost as big as he is!

A squeaky AT-AT.. That looks fun. It looks like a good 40k scale too. October is the best month of the year! I didn't know Reds was an Octoberite

As am I. October is amazing; anyone who says differently is just jealous that they weren't born in it.

That's true, Sharps. Octoberites are always trying to take over the world too Cheers, Tread! So..... I've been carrying 2 boxes of SM bikers and the sidecar bit of an attack bike around with me for 2 days (and now they're thoroughly WET). To work and back. Can't explain why I'm doing this..... Maybe we've become ..... inseparable.... Maybe I should assemble them ON THE TRAIN !

It is kind of scary (but also predictable) that a lot of the old guard simply do not give a flying monkey about the new eds. Or the old eds. Don't get me wrong, love the 'verse, just don't talk to me about GW ruleswriting.
BRING ME, A CUP OF SACK!

Wouldn't you rather have a sack of cups instead? Isn't that more practical?

Well, I will argue that the current codex in the current ruleset edition is the best it's been since 4th edition. We're competitive, we're fluffy, and we still have a whole lot of options. Of course, there's still room for improvement in both, and it would be nice if GW would slow down on the edition changes and cut model and book prices by about half, but in the end it's a game, not a simulation. As long as you're having fun, it's good, right?

Do you have any tips for marine players; have you played against Hetlan at all recently?

I'm actually going hybrid gunline/mech infantry. I came to the conclusion a while back that an all Veteran Guard army plays too much like Space Marines for my liking. Incidentally, my brother (who plays Tau) finds being outnumbered 2:1 in both tanks and infantry to be quite intimidating (and now that most Russ variants are cheaper, and with the addition of Pask, he has to worry about a substantial amount of AV 14 vehicles, too).
I haven't had a game against Hetlan in years; apparently most of his minis were broken in an accident, and he's kinda lost interest in actually playing.
For playing as Marines, I would suggest a list heavy on Dreadnaughts in Drop Pods and Bikes, but I'm no expert on how Space Marines should be played.
For playing against Marines, it's my experience that Battle Cannons are where it's at. Battle Cannons, Vanquishers, and plenty of infantry bubble wrap to protect them from Terminators, Drop Dreads, and meltaguns. Any weapon that can make a whole Tactical Squad just disappear in one hit is good in my book.

Basilisks work better than battle cannons; longer range, strength 9. But basilisks die much easier than Lemans so your approach is good.
I'm playing gunline marines but doing a second army with my leftovers and some new stuff which will have 2 deathwind pods and a couple of rhinos for more mobility. I like my Stalker and lascannon pred too.. Thanks for the suggestions, I've got some new bikes to assemble - and an attack bike for my 2nd army. I'm not allowed to use termies, centurions, dreadnoughts or scouts because of chapter fluff but I've got 2 drop pods to assemble and I need to get in on that to tackle basilisks better.
After a game with Emptyhat today I'm happy with the performance of my new Sternguard squad. Its a 5 sternie squad with 4 strombolters and a heavy flamer. The heavy flamer did nothing but lightly defrost a plague marine who was loving it but the stormbolters, man... Combined with Imperial Fist chapter tactics stormbolters are where its at.

We need to sterilize the part of the world where it originates. I'm thinking that nuclear fire followed by napalm followed by salting the earth (just to be sure) might be sufficient.
