still it is no fun to have a friend go through that and not be able to help... Be thankful you were at least present for moral support, and didn't find out about it a year after it happened because family wanted to keep it private or didn't want to worry you <still seething two days after a wrenching conversation>

Facebook still suggests that I make friends with an IRL friend of mine who hanged himself well before I took up Facebook.
That's one friend request that will forever go unanswered.

OK, THAT's depressing...
On the upside, I did spot Venus and Jupiter in broad daylight last night -- after 7pm, though. One of the other residents took a ton of photos on his iphone and may send me some. Now to try it at 5pm.
Edit: And then I spotted Venus in even broader daylight -- three freakin' PM. How cool is that?

Just now figured out why I couldn't find Knights of Sidonia online. Because I had to look for Sindonia no Kishi. And the second season is almost finished, so I know how I'm going to spend some time tomorrow. Marathon.
Oh, and I'll try to take a video of the sushi place I found for you guys.

My TGG minis showed up on Friday. Now I've got even more minis to languish waiting to be painted.

Reading the newest All Guardsmen Party episode, waiting impatiently for my order of Marauder Task Force toys to turn up, and assembling miniatures for the first time in... must be years. Highlander74's new pics wound me up, and I'm putting together a box of Bolt Action British infantry. Badly.

I have the video, but Photobucket doesn't like the file type. Thanks, Obama.

Knights of Sidonia: I doubt bear lady will be explained next week, so no explanations in season two, either.

When is this coming out in Beta Max video format?

When is this coming out in Beta Max video format? I think we need to first build a time masheen to take the manga back to the 1970s... So, the prescription strength NSAID my doctor prescribed for me on Friday now no longer seems to be doing anything for the pain I've been experiencing. It worked great the first day I took it, not so much on the second day, barely at all yesterday, and today it's been completely ineffective. Apply a heating pad seems to be far more useful, but limits my mobility, and only provides temporary relief.

Aw crap... Just heard on the news that James Horner, who composed the score for Battle Beyond the Stars, Aliens, Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, Glory, Enemy at the Gates, Avatar, and many more died in a plane crash. He was one of my favorite movie score composers.

Even if he's not around.

So, despite having a wank-tacular several weeks due to a back injury that was precipitated by a fall due to my 'orrible knees, I managed to achieve some awesome last night: I've replaced the stock resin lens for my Colonial Marine bucket's camera system with an actual Pentax-110 lens, which was the lens used by the actual helmets in Aliens. The news of James Horner's untimely death motivated me to get the lens (which I acquired a few weeks ago off of the Bay o' E) actually attached to the camera body (aided by my folding knife, Mr. Thinner and Q-Tips, and two part epoxy resin).

Thanks! Next step is to measure and cut some Dutch sleeping roll foam to pad the interior of the lobster/neck plate, and the knee pads on the leg armor. If I succeed at that, then I will cut out some more of the foam to send to another USCM costumer I've become friends with.

Next month's phone bill might kill me....
I'm expecting it to be £500 but it could be double that..
No buying models and dammit I need new SM codex, new DA codex, 32mm bases and three more boxes of mechanicum. Bleh! At least if fantasy is next I have no need to add to that queue.

Just got back from an orthopedic consult. Took the bone-doc all of about 10 seconds to diagnose my knee problems as not being arthritis (thankfully) but as being due to my bilateral chondromalacia becoming aggravated; he immediately noted the funky anatomy of the trochlea on my femurs which he said is a dead giveaway, and when putting my knees through range of motion assessment I experienced pain at all the proper points for someone with chondromalacia. He gave me cortisone injections into both knees (10 mg at 1mg/mL, which has my knees feeling super-weird right now), and said if the cortisone works (for some people it doesn't) it should kick in in three to five days, and may give me six months of relief. He also gave me some isometric exercises to do, which are far more sophisticated than the ones I was given 27 years ago when my condition was first diagnosed, and said to follow up with him if I don't get relief from symptoms, or if my knees get worse.

Sorry to hear about your knees, Trooper. Isn't cortisone a steroid?
I just dhl'd the missus's meds to Sierra Leone as she forgot them here and one of the things was hydrocortisone injection. She just got it today; posted them on Monday.

Came home to find a USPS receipt for what should be my Marauder Task Force Kickstarter order -- 17 action figures with weapons and a host of modular plug-in equipment. Will pick them up tomorrow. Earlier I ordered a few extra weapons and some assorted furnishings to go with them: Can't wait to get the figures in my hands!

Hm, I'm confused. I just posted to here and can see it in my "my posts" list, but not in this thread?
Edit: Ah, there it is. Anyway, Marauder accessories are pretty cool. Better proportioned than the usual run of 1:18 toys, so more delicate -- kinda like the difference between Heroic and regular-size minis. They make some really interesting modular weapons and are quite generous with extras -- the second ladder, chainsaw, fire extinguisher and machine-pistol in the picture were all freebies. The figures were delayed for a looong time post-Kickstarter but are almost here, and the reviews from people who've got them already are drool-inducing.
I'm also planning to go to the Miami Supercon on a day pass tomorrow, but I may stay home just to mess with these figures. They're that cool.
