ULTRAMARINES: Codex Pictures Announce Director and Writer! Codex Pictures revealed today the director and screenwriter for the forthcoming Warhammer 40,000 movie ULTRAMARINES. The director is Martyn Pick, whose credits include the 2009 film The Age of Stupid, on which he was animation director; London 2012, the promotional film commissioned by Film London and the London Development Agency which was premiered at the Beijing Olympics; the 2001 US Budweiser NBA commercial; and the celebrated BBC promotional trailers for the Euro 2004 soccer tournament. Martyn was chosen to direct Ultramarines for his renowned and highly distinctive ability to fuse live action and animation and the fluid, rich painterly style of his film-making. The screenplay has been written by someone who needs no introduction to Warhammer 40,000 fans – best-selling author Dan Abnett. Dan has penned more than 25 books for Games Workshop’s Black Library, with total sales in excess of 1.2 million copies. He also works regularly for 2000 AD, Marvel Comics and DC Comics and has recently seen publication of the first of three novels for HarperCollins' new sci-fi, fantasy and horror imprint, Angry Robot. ULTRAMARINES, a sci-fi thriller employing CGI and state-of-the-art production techniques, is being produced by Codex Pictures in association with Good Story Productions Ltd. The Canadian co-producer is POP6 Studios. ultramarinesthemovie.com/

A good writer != good screenwriter.

I sense a box-office flop of biblical proportions. And that's the good ending.

I could see GW adding the Imperial Guard in the Space Marine type movie, only as support in the movie. If the movie is a hit and the Imperial Guard become a fan fav, GW would make a Imperial Guard only movie.
It's just that the space marine movie would have to spearhead the whole movie franchies. Kinda like the Dawn of War games. We did get Imperial guards for the game, but we just had to wait until the space marines had their first turn in the spotlight.

40K has so much scope for movies, but I dunno if there's enough of a market to support it... although the DOW games did do pretty well I suppose. I can't wait none the less.

Sadly, an IG movies would just be another 'soldiers in space' movie. There's no pressing need for it to be 40K-specific in the market.

Not if we get James Cameron to do the movie like he did with Aliens. Heck, Avatar looked like another "soldiers in space" but that's a hit. Just need the right director, right $$ and the right script.

Hurt Locker won more awards than Avatar, and it was directed by Kathryn Bigelow.

If you were to do an Imperial Guard film, you'd really need to include some of the more fruity things that exist in 40k - that would make it stand out from the crowd a bit more... but still... Not if we get James Cameron to do the movie like he did with Aliens. Heck, Avatar looked like another "soldiers in space" but that's a hit. Just need the right director, right $$ and the right script. Touche, salesman. However, I haven't seen Avatar, so I can't speak to that personally. It's not that impressive Req... I was actually very disapointed - rather see Aliens or Starship Troopers. Maybe it's better in 3D, but I'm not convinced...

Bah, Starship Troopers was a travesty of a movie. Aliens was a meh gorefest. Avatar at least had the decency of looking snazz and having a massed aerial battle.

Despite the fact it stole most of it's plot from Dances with Wolves and Ferngully, and may have stolen quite a few of the scenes from a movie called "Delgo". Reds

I could say the same thing about Episode III. Looking really shiny, and having a scene of pure chaos with no ground does not a movie make. ST, while having its issues, was a good movie with a real plot and subtext. Alien, Aliens, and Alien 3 were part of a good story arc that was intended to make a statement and be a visual showcase. Back in the day when those effects were cutting-edge. Some of them are still good.

I'll bet old Marneus puts on his Gauntlets of Maccrage, jumps out of a thunderhawk at 2500 metres, and completely decimates millions of Orks, just by landing on them.
Gavin da Ork - Woss dat? Mike da ORk - Woss wot? Gavin da Ork - Dat shiny bloo fing wot iz shaatin an fallin at us! Mike da Ork - Sss one o dem bird fingies. Gavin da Ork - Nah dem bird fingies fly. Dat fing is...
KRUNCH!

Did you know? The other day I noticed...
Marneus - turn the 'n' upside-down, and extend the line: it's now a 'y.' 'Eus' is 'sue' backwards...
Marneus is Mary Sue.
