copious amounts of Ultramarine fank wank the film seems to be soaked in. What in the heck is 'fank wank'?? Should have been 'Fan Wank". You know, the stuff dripping off the SM Codex after Matt Ward wrote it. Reds

Reds *Shakes fist and screams "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!"* I still can't believe they let him write the Blood Angels codex as well. Sounds good, when does this movie come out? From what I've heard, the movie was supposed to start shipping on November 29th, but there have been problems getting the DVDs produced, so shipping has been delayed... Edit: Ah, I did some more reading about the delay, and it seems that the DVDs will start shipping this week...

The DVD's resisted being ruined. That's when you know it's bad.

And they did put the Super Mario Bros. movie onto DVD...
It can't be worse than that? Can it?

Well, and I'm not sure if this is a legitimate reason or just their excuse, but the E-mails I've received about my ordered DVD say that there was a problem with their shipping company or something similar. But yeah, apparently starting to be shipped at the end of this week - English snowy weather permitting...

It's cold snow fog!
So is this film going straight to DVD? My brain tells me to avoid such films.

The DVD's resisted being ruined. That's when you know it's bad. Someone at GW probably saw the DVDs each had a hole in the center of them and thought they were defective. There's a review up on BOLS in case anyone missed it. The overall message I got from it was "It's not as bad as we thought it was going to be" Reds

I've been following rumors about the movie since it was first announced, and have come to the conclusion that I'd rather spend my money on something else...

I've seen it.
Once you get past the "Coor, Warhammer 40.000 in animation" stage, you realize that it's crappily animated. I've seen animated adult movies that have better staff than this. Sure, they got Terence Stamp to voice a character. But not even almighty Terence Stamp can bring this movie out of the "meh" category. Not having read anything by Dan Abnett (he wrote the story), I must say that this does not encourage me to do so.

Personally, whether it's a great achievement or simply an acceptable level "meh" DVD, I still think it deserves both credit and support. After all is said and done, it's not that easy to get films made - not even films that have a super original plot line etc - so do we really think a film giant (such as the makers of LoTR) could be persuaded to make a film of a niche hobby like ours? Very doubtful. But, get the ball rolling with a smaller company and get successful sales and the potential for a movie making giant to pick up the next project (or the one a few projects down the line) increases - the result is that in time there's the potential for a real heavy hitting cinema release version of a 40k film... So yeah, this film may not be even worthy of cleaning the boots of films like Avatar or LoTR, but remember it's by a relatively new company, who are (basically) taking on a big risk, and let's get behind this attempt and support it As for saying "Why don't they make the visual standard equal to that seen in games such as Dawn of War?" Do you know how much those little snippets cost? THis is a feature length production by a small company - I think they've done really well (judging by the trailers) - and I'll keep an open mind when I watch the full version. syphon: Don't let it dissuade you from reading Dan Abnetts books - they're actually a real treat in my opinion...

Yeah i already know about those small trailers costing a lot of money to make and it's not easy to do a full length feature film like that. Still though those trailers are bad ass and despite warhammer 40k: space marine being about an ultramarine that game too looks bad ass.
Personally i wasn't a fan of avatar. Don't get me wrong it was beautiful but when everybody clapped in the theater after the movie was over i felt offended. The star wars and LotR movies were clap worthy. The avatar movie's story wasn't entirely strong but it made up for it with prettiness. Sure it might look good some years from now but the original star wars movies will hold up better than avatar will and the original star wars movies are much older. Also movies like blade runner will definitely outlast avatar. The same can be said for the lord of the rings movies though i'm sure some jerk off will try to out-do peter jackson, remake the films and possibly ruin them. Although it couldn't possibly be any worse than the starship troopers movies. I am seriously thinking of reading dune and the starship troopers books.

The first Starship Troopers movie was awesome, thanks to Paul Verhoeven (RoboCop, Total Recall) directing, even though it was only loosely linked to the book, which was entirely the studio's fault for not giving Verhoeven the budget that he needed to include both powered armor and bugs... However, feel free to trash the second Starship Troopers movie, which was God awful. All in all, though, I am probably not going to spend money on the Smurfs movie.

Yeah i heard the first starship troopers movie was alright. Once again going off of what i've heard. I haven't seen the first movie fully (probably just the end). Was that where they captured the brain bug?

Was that where they captured the brain bug? Yeah, and Neil Patrick Harris gets all touchy feely with it. It was actually a pretty good movie, despite Denise Richard's absolute lack of acting ability, considering the stuido-imposed constraints that Verhoeven was working under. The second one was utter crap, but Verhoeven had nothing to do with it, thankfully. The third one, which Verhoeven did direct, IIRC, was good, and managed to work the powered armor into the movie, but it was only at the very end. Jolene Blalock (T'pol from Enterprise) was in it, and damn did she look fine. It also made lots of fun of religion, which made it an instant win for me.
