For my birthday, I managed to pursuade my parents to get me a gameboard, and other relatives to get me terrain for it. This will be a recording of its progress from a pile of plastic to a manifestation of awesomeness, as well as serving motivation for me to finish it. The naked table in all its glory! And how I'd like it to look when it's done, only with a lot more scenery! So far I have undercoated 3 tiles, with 3 more to go. I plan on getting it ready to play Cities Of death first, then with more Planetstrike stuff to follow (I got one of the Strongpoints )

That's some glorious nakedness... How heavy are the individual tiles?
Can't wait to see this progress.

@elegiac:The tiles themselves aren't that heavy individually, maybe around 1kg. @colonel:I still had my GW staff discount at this point, and my mother made the mistake of asking 'if there was anything that I wanted'. I obviously gave her the sales pitch, and my granddad offered to pick up some terrain. The rest of the relatives jumped on the bandwagon too (not that I'm complaining!) I think if you offered to put some money towards one, or had a 'combined gift' strategy for relatives around chrimbo/birthday then you could manage to get one

I think that's going to get sig'd As my mum said 'if you don't ask you don't get', kinda ironic really since now I have one of these You can pretend it's yours, its a community table at the moment (virtual community, I don't want you on my doorstep at 7am!) Don't think I'll get much more done on it for a couple of days, have an album artwork commission and soup to make (I could always do the soup in betweeen painting the board, a la 'waffles/urban camo painting' tutorial......)

You didn't have to wait long mate! Charadon granite on rocky areas. I quite like the idea of lava on the flat rocky bits, in the cracked areas, as I think it'll add contrast to an otherwise very dark board. What do you think?

my first ever quote in someones sig! (honored, but still in damnation mode ) OT, thats some sweet progress youve got going there Im getting really eager to go and make my own modular 40K/fantasy board. (being fantasy player mainly) But i guess that wouldnt make much difference what you play. I say, keep up the goodwork 3ff3ct. its looking really really promissing edit: btw, those boards have no lock system on em? to keep them together i mean. everytime i play,... theres someone smashing his hip against the tableside... i am currently using 2 large wooden plates and they are easy to reposition,... how does this table fare by a blow from the side?

There's locking pins that clip each piece together, they're a pain in the ass to get in yet they do the job! I'll post pics when I get it all together. Speaking of pics: And already the bugs have moved in.... Just to show how my bases go with the board I've sprayed the other 3 tiles and have only details to do on these 3 now. Yay!

Seeing the bases on the board really helped me visualize.
This is some great work. Are you adding any further details to it?

Yeah it is a bit late... by a month..... Cheers though!!!! ;D
I have in beed got crazy scenery to go with it. I have each of the Cities Of Death kits already, and have picked up the Imperial Strongpoint box (that came out with Planetstrike) 3 lots of the crater sets (that also came out with Planetstrike, for weapon effects/stratagems and converting) and 3 lots of the woods.
So once this board is done, I'll be finishing off my CoD stuff and making lots of cool Planetstrike terrain!

@er: Yes, they are, and they are cooler than I thought. I didn't really like them, but now I do. Can't wait to get some wet effects on them..... @happyorange: Patience! Buildings will be done soon! @colonel:Thanks! Started doing the lava patches. I did a 'test' patch, and am very happy with the way it turned out. Im halfway through one of the larger patches now, and it looks great already. I'm very excited to get it finished!
