I use multiple teams. One on either side of the deployment zone and large firing arcs. Hasn't been a problem in most cases.

thats actually the best thing to do with heavy weapons. but a team in cover that has a good view of the battlefield or objectives and just let them shoot anything that gets too close.
at an apoc match my heavy bolter teams where in some woods and just opened fire on anything that came too close to the bridge

Getting a full six man heavy weapon squad into cover is quite difficult, especially when you consider the 60mm bases.

My HW teams have the guardsmen on 25mm bases with the weapons seperate on 40mm bases.

Yeah, that's actually a really good idea. It's practical and easy, definately worth thinking about if using a lot of heavy weapons.

I have one man and a weapon on 40mm bases, and another loader on a standard 25mm.

I have one man and a weapon on 40mm bases, and another loader on a standard 25mm. LOL That probably saves you from the argument of removing the base on the full model rule. Nice answer... Might do the same with my girls.
