Hey there,
Happyorange here, just thought I'd share my method that I've used today while I was making some hands for my mortar team. This was basically my first time using green-stuff for things other than gap-filling, so it was a huge learning curve for me, and pretty useful, so I urge you to practise too!
Ok, I'll try and stop rambling on now,
In this tutorial, I have chosen to make a hand holding the HW binoculars. I know one can be made from the sprue, but I thought that this would be an easy one to start with.
Step 1
Whack on a piece of green stuff roughly the same size as the hand you want and sculpt it into approximately the right shape in a rectangle.
Step 2
Get your Stanley knife/X-acto knife/what ever you want to call it, and cut out the four fingers
Step 3
Get the cutty bit of your sculpting tool and widen the gaps between the fingers a bit. At this point you can also shorten the fingers to the appropriate length.
Step 4
Now flip over your sculpting tool and use the round bit to make a slight depression on the back of the hand, to make the raised knuckles.
Step 5
Flip over the sculpting tool again and use the back of cutty end to make the individual knuckles, and also the tendons that run down the back of your hand.
Step 6
Nothing in particular to do in this step, apart from just fiddle about with it until it looks like a hand, remember that hands usually are quite thin at the wrist and widest at the knuckles. If you're stuck as what to do, then just look at your hand!
*Wait for it all to cure.*
At this point in the tutorial, I would have liked to have an 3ff3ct-esque
humorous break in the proceedings, possibly involving interesting vegetarian dishes. Unfortunately, all I have been eating today is pistachio nuts, so I took a picture of those instead.
(That was almost a full pot this morning)
Final Step
The very, very last thing you should do is add the thumb. This is pretty easy as all you have to do is make a small sausage and add that. I'm afraid I don't have a photo of this step.
That's about it. The pictures included in the guide were actually my second attempt so don't be put off if it all goes wrong to start with. I hope to do some more tomorrow, as with every one I do, they seem to get better. I realise that the size that I just showed you would be much more suited to a Catachan, so another lesson there: don't make them too big!
Here are some of my earlier attempts:
Hope this may have helped someone.
Adios!
