Hi,
I scored myself a free Humbrol Airbrush Set. Comes with propellant, 4 bottles and a little white thing.
Here's the thing: its got ajustable airflow and paint flow - any advice?
Also and more importantly; do I need to flush water through it afterwards? You don't get a lot of paint in a GW pot and I don't want to use a different paint because my new tanks wont match my old.
Please advise on use and care of airbrush.
Cheers, Bilko

Thin the paints! And yes, run some airbrush cleaner through it when you're done.

Thanks,
It doesn't seem to work. I tested it with water first.
I can blow through the tube from the paint pot to the nozzel, so it isn't blocked, but no water is coming out. I have to hold the long gas tube into the propellant tap thing, but there is plenty of gas comming out. There doesn't seem to be any way for the water to be pushed up the short pipe, it's just sitting there!
Any ideas?
EDIT: Got it, twist the paint nozzle with pliers.

Yup. Perfect seal is necessary for the siphon. These things are annoying to get working right, but when they do, it's awesome.

I'm really frustrated now.
The tap constently leaks, so I'm running out of gas, but it was free so I'm not bothered about that.
The problem is I watered my GW paint down 1:1 and it keeps blocking the nozzel in around 1 second. Any more water and surely the tank will just be a big watery mess?
Can anyone recommend specific airbrush paints that match Catachan Green which won't do this? It works with water, so what am I doing wrong?
Please advise. I think airbrushing might be really good, but I could have painted the whole Russ with a brush by now without wasting 1/2 a pot of paint.
GRRRAAAGH!

Try using an acrylic thinner. Other than that, I'm not sure what to offer. If Woz came around more often, I'd say ask him - he's an airbrush wizard.

Thanks ElegaicRequiem,
Woz, if you happen across this post, help me out.
I'm out of gas now. Gonna buy the FW Masterclass book to cheer myself up.

You may as well just send a PM, and wait.

I've never had any luck with these external mix, compressed gas air brushes. The gas pressure always drops off before i'd get the air/paint mix and pressure right.
A couple of tips that may help though-
The paint should be watered down so it's like milk and filter the paint using a pair of cheap tights. (the pigment in some paints isn't always fine enough for airbrushing) Put the air can in a bowl of water to keep it cool.
Check ebay cos you can pick up an airbrush and compessor for around £75 and it'll be a million times better then the one you've got.

Hi, Thanks to Woz (do you really use water to thin the paint, it just kept blocking my nozzel?)
I just bought a Finespray Pixie Compressor Airbrush Kit from EverythingAirbrush.com. The guy said that it wouldn't pulse like other compressors without a resivoir.
The guy on the phone would not recommend an airbrush cleaning agent or a particular paint thinner because he said that the formula for each brand of acrylic paint is different and so different thiners and cleaners work best - consult your paint manufacturer. I haven't seen any advice from GW or FW on the issue, what do you guys use for GW paint?
OR another brand of paint that has a similar colour to Catachan Green?
Thanks.

I use Vallejo and Tamiya airbrush paint. As these are designed for airbrushes they are less prone to clog.
I use widow cleaner between paint's and a bit of cellulose thinners at the end of the day.
