DadCRO. The stripes usually represnt squadron markings, or designate a tank ace. Ah, forgot to comment on that one. Yes, this is true. It's been like this for multiple editions of the IG Codex. The stripes on the front of the tank are usually supposed to be identification markers for different squads. If you have three stripes (say red-black-red) then the red stripes could represent which tank company the tank is part of and the black shows which tank squad (usually squads of three). Red-white-red would then be the same company but a different squad (perhaps second instead of first or something). Another way is that the stripes only shows which tank company the tank belongs to and using numbers to denote squad. How this is used can be found in the "Modelling Imperial Guard Vehicles"-pdf which can be found by searching the hobby articles on the GW website. Personally I don't use them, mainly for two reasons. One, I don't think it looks good with my paint scheme and two, I don't have set squads since I want to mix and match my squads. Wow, hat was a lot of text. Hope it's useful.

The stripes on the tanks are a ww1 era thing, because in the fog of war it was easy for other tanks to mistake friendly tanks as the enemy, hence the bright large coloured squadron stripes... also because ww1 was mainly a ground battle that's why they were on the side... during ww2 they started to put tank markings on the top of tanks to mark out to air units who was who... just some more useless info from krisapedia.

my commisariat executioner is called
His Divine Will
the rest of the tanks have to earn their names as they actually get some games...
chimera's won't have names they are numbered to correspond to the squad they accompany to make organisation easy.
the other vehicles im lokking for names for are my vendetta's but i think they will have to earn their names as well...

my Bane Wolf/ Hell Hound is called 'Merkava Shel Tembalim' i found the name on google and apparently was what the Israeli's called the palestinian tanks during they're many wars. it translates to 'The Chariot of Idiots'
one of my russ's is called *Sir, Shes one of ours..* my Demlosher's called 'Bombbat' My Punisher = Hellcat Executioner = Flame of Terra Vanquisher = Hell on Wheels Chimera gains the squad its carrying's name so it usually drives around being called 'Hell in a Helmet' and my Valkyrie is called = Judgment from the Heavans
i have roughly 300 names for ships, many of which can be used for tanks =) if any1 wants ill post them at some point

I call my demolisher Geography. bet you can't guess why... Because it hurts your sanity and never makes terrain tests? Very close. Its because the demolisher has a bad habit of changing geography... very often

My Lemans are usually Tandgniostr and Tandgrisner. Those are the names of the goats pulling Thor's chariot across the skies.

Depends, for me (not very good at small details) a name as big as brass across the side of the hull works best. Thought I'm getting better, on day I will wright 'Ex-wife' on all my hunterkillers!

..Just wondering... where do you all like to paint the names? I like to paint the names on my tanks on the right side of the turret, or on the right side of the stowage bin at the back of the turret if the name will fit there.

I don't have one yet but it would probably sizzle down to this: LRBT= Damage Inc. Executioner= All Nightmare Long I do however have a Valkyrie called "S**t Storm" lol. "I came" isn't that greatest name for a tank unless its slaanesh. Sigged

Mine are named after the ever reliable Asterix and Obelix (if I get a third it'll be Dogmatix) Basilisk is Cacofonix. Exterminator is Fulliautomatix. And if I ever get a Deathstrike that'll be called Anticlimax.

Well, we have names for LRMBT, what about names for other Imperial Tanks, such as Land Raiders and Predators?

With Land Raiders I'd probably go for ridiculously pompous latin/englatin widely used by SM.
Scutum & Ferrum were names for my GK Land Raiders with old codex.
The humour stuff fits Imperial Guard better than Space Marines.
