JFK: I am a jelly donut!! Ready, you have a tank that's a Jelly Doughnut? I'm considering it, because its destructive power will be delicious to behold!

My LR is named things like "Ramses" and "Loki" after old gods. Most I just take the names I find cool.
But with my chimeras, that's another matter... One is called "Shrapnel", simply because it blows up in almost ALL games and kills several guardsmen. Another one is named "Gargoyle", after a game when it just played AA against those little buggers.

It has been a while since I have posted anything for my WWI themed army so I thought I would share one of my Leman Russ tanks and a fully painted squad. The Russ needs more weathering and some mud caked on, but you can see where I am going with it. As you likely have noticed I moved the Battle Cannon to the hull mount area and moved the hull heavy bolter to a small pillbox style turret. I chose to do this despite limiting the field of fire on the battle cannon on the design aesthetic of most early tanks to mount the primary cannon in the hull. Other modifications include an engine filter made by mounting a spotlight face down on the vent plate which has been inverted, the trench crossing device made from the dozer blade mount and a pair of Ork steel wheels. The heavy bolters are made to look like Vickers style machine guns and are made from plastic tube stock and half round stock applied to the outside. The troops are made from Bretonian Men-at-arms and peasant bowmen with Cadian arms and gasmask heads from Westwind Productions. Other projects nearing completion are a Leman Russ Executioner with plasma cannon sponsons, 4 enclosed Griffon Heavy Mortars, 3 Hydra flak trucks, a Deathstrike artillery spotter, and a bunch of infantry. Long live the Duke!

I have to be honest, i just use military style registration numbers as i struggle to think up all those names where as a military reg is easy to think and paint as well.

The best way to name your tanks is to come up with a theme. I go for funny, so I just have a bunch of funny names for my tanks (Eviction Notice, Money Shot, Relatively Harmless (Vanquisher), and Plasmagasim (Executioner)). I've also seen a nordic theme, girl names, places, children/loved one names, etc. If all else fails, give it an ID number. Hope this helps

I also went for a theme...
I typed holy into a theasaurus and used the words that I liked from the list that came up. certain theasaurus allow you to follow threads of similar meaning words making it easy to gather loads of cool words quickly.
I think my favourite is the Chimera called Deliverance
ps - Religion isn't my cup of tea, but the emporers divine will is different.
I'll re-post my list for ease of example:
Devout Demolisher Resolute Demolisher Ardent Punisher
Apotheosis Basilisk
Sanctification Russ Consecration Russ Exaltation Russ
Consecrate Chimera Designate Chimera Venerate Chimera
Reverence Chimera Deliverance Chimera Vengeance Chimera
Imperative Valkyrie Impenitent Valkyrie Integrity Valkyrie
Seraph Vendetta
Monastic Bombastic Shadowsword
Others I haven't used yet.. though will give to my 9 Sentinels once I've found a few more...
servitude, rectitude servility sanctified fervent venerable, invoilable, incorruptable sacrosanct

The chimeras is called:
Barcud (Dragon) Ceffylaw (Horse) Hebog (Falcon) Llew (Lion) Gron (Clarion) Ffug (crocodile) Bioden (Magpie) Could not guess that name in english.
And the other tanks: Manticore - Þrumuveður (thunder) Basilisk - Hamar (hammer) Griffon - Þrit (anvil) LR Exterminator - Spjót (spear) LRBT - Hníf (knife) LRBT HB sponsons - Rýtingur (dagger) LR demolisher - Skjöldur (shield)

Fluffwise, I've got an all-female tank regiment assigned to my guardsmen, specialising in close-range sieges and linebreaking.
The regiment in question is already a veteran one from Medusa V, and given most armoured regiments in 40k fluff favour ballsy attacks and bravado over attrition, most of my tanks are either given 'girly' names or suggestive ones. It's a very lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek sense of humour for tank crews who will probably be dead tomorrow.
EXAMPLES:
LRBT- Anne'O'War LRD (super-expensive LasPlas variety)- Lady Modesty Basilisk- The Compensator Chimera- Frag Me Gently
Favourite of the moment is my LRBT, affectionately named Iron Grandma. She was my first vehicle ever since the first battleforce I picked up many years back; she was assembled shoddily and seen many repaints throughout the years, and even has a replacement cupola lid from another kit, but she still lives, regardless.
One day, I'd like to grab a Baneblade when I have the excuse to splurge on "non-core" Apoc stuff. I think I'll name it Final Argument of Kings.

After reading and rereading this thread, I have decided I need a Hellhound and I need to name it Cuddles.
Thoughts, IGMB'ers?
