Exactly, Cheers Commissarbob, my faith is restored!
As I mentioned, different regiments are fine too, so if you want to submit DKoK or Elysians, Steel Legion, Vostroyans, Mordians, Catachans, Chem Dogs, War Hawks etc please do, despite being pretty constricted, there's a lot of scope for variation too.

Normal Guardsmen/vet guardsmen - unless you equip them with shotguns, you're not really going to be able to tell if they're vets. Even if the models have "camo capes", that could just be claimed as "regimental uniform". Granted carapace may cause confusion, but not that much of an issue (again arguable as different versions of flak armour).
So don't stress too much people, it's all groovy!

Not really. Carapace is massively different to flak armour - you cover, at bare minimum, the knees and groin, and usually the thighs, hips and reinforce the abdominal plate. I should know, I've converted it onto all my models Personally, I would say we should limit it to a Guardsman. A Guardsman, a Conscript or a Veteran.

Well yes there is that RT, but then maybe it's made of inferior material? Just a thought to excuse carapace armoured models...
Come to think of it, weren't Vostroyans supposed to be carapace troops? Would that exclude them from this? Not an issue for me, just a random observation.

Guys, this is 3ff3ct's competition, surely what he says goes? Veterans with carapace or whatever could come up in the next one Apologies if anyone's already asked this, but can we enter more than one guardsman?

And much Kudos and thanks to 3ff3ct for doing it - we were more just clarifying things I think I have my candidate sorted anyway... Scarper, you can enter more than one, but each Guardsman will be a seperate entry (I think that's what 3ff3ct said...)

Count me in. 3ff3ct, I have a mock-up - can I send you a pic for you to check I'm okay to go ahead with painting? (Don't want to make something that you then decide I can't enter =/)

Evening all! Looks like I have clarifying to do: @rt: If it's a vet with a lasgun, then I'll make allowances. Hell, maybeyour average joes are on the Munitorums favourites list. No shotguns though Scarper: If you want to paint up a few thats cool, however I think it would be fairer to finally submit one model. So paint 5,10, whatever, then enter the best one. Otherwise there could be 3 people entering 50 different guardsmen..... ReWolf: Go for it mate. PM me a pic! Hope this manages to keep the majority of you guys happy! I was thinking for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place I could knock up something cool to go in your sig, in the way of a prize. I would offer something cooler, although I am very poor at the moment!

Cool. The pic'll have to wait until the 10th, though, cos I'm not going to be within 50 miles of my minis till then

I will definitly be joining this... Now I wonder what to do... I have a zillion possibilities, as you know. And I say we keep it as simple as the OP has said: Guardsman from a platoon infantry squad with a lasgun or equivelant! Nothing more, nothing less. Every time someone makes a competition, people always start asking if they can bend the rules. Don't! No veterans, special weapons, penal legionnaires, storm troopers.. Follow the rules.

>pops up from hiding behind Boba and shakes fist< Yeah! One of Bill Bailey's stand ups sprang to mind when I read that. Once this beautiful English weather lets up and gives me an environment I can spray in I'll start cracking on my entry. I'll get a pre-undercoat picture up this weekend. Maybe the next one you host 3ff3ct it can follow one of the suggested themes, Vets, Penal Legion, Special Weapons or Storm Troopers? I'd be interested to see the Penal Legion as the next one myself.

How about this: The winner of the competition gets to decide what the next theme will be?

... are we going to allow "fire and burning heretics" as a suggestion from winners?

How about next time we just say, "Infantryman" as a topic, so that the people who would ask for it to be broadened have a shot at getting that topic, since they're not in the running to win?

If I get my act together to paint a guardsman up to snuff I will enter the competition! I doubt that I'll win, but hopefully I get some type of honorable mention lol.

@elagaicrequiem: Why is it so important to have a broad topic? What's wrong with entering into a competition where the rules are simple?
In my opinion it's much more fun to join in a competition where the criteria are limted (i.e. 'Terminator', or 'Ork burna boy', or 'Guardsman with lasgun') than 'paint generally anything you like' competitions.
It challenges people to be creative within a narrow field instead of just slapping something together based on 'w00t Carapace armour iz m0Re 1337 th@n Flak armour!'...

3ff3ct I think I will go ahead and enter one of the girls. Give me an excuse to paint another model and get my mind back on the game.

I'm not suggesting we have a 'paint a piece of plastic' competition. Just that it be broadened from 'platoon dude with no upgrades' to 'infantryman, upgrades optional.' Because I have no platoon dudes, and I know there are others who also don't. That way, everyone is included in the competition if they wish. It would also open up the way for some interesting conversions with the vets and the penal legion, which are still going to be based on the same minis as the platoon dude. Thus, there's still a good limiting factor. It's just an idea for next time, when this one is completed, designed to include everyone. Same vein as a 'vehicle competition,' rather than a Leman Russ one, since not everyone has one of those.

Just paint something Imperial guard REALLY WELL, then we discus if it fits comp regulations, and if it's not what the OP had in mind then you still have a magnificent model.

Fair enough. But to be honest, the excuse that "you don't have any platoon guys" is a bit thin. I am planning on painting an Armageddon Ork Hunter guardsman (and my armies are Mordians, Pyran Dragoons and Attilans). I'm making a mini from scratch for the purpose of this competition, and not for gaming - which I imagine is really the point of the competition.
And there's no reason why you can't make a cool Guardsman and then change him into something else after the competition, like a Veteran for example.
