That sounds like a good idea. Also I think if they was a 'program' of sorts might help. Would voting and comments be public or private though?
Eg, december winter theme, feb single guardsman, april leman russ....
I think that way people can look and go "well I don't have time to enter the winter theme, but I can start work on the single guardsman, and save money to get a new LRBT in time for april.

...but I can start work on the single guardsman, and save money to get a new LRBT in time for april. I think if members spent a year on each entry (which they possibly could) then it could make matters worse, although I do like the fact that people can 'save' and get more adventurous entries in. Perhaps a non-linear list of themes would be good, to keep everyone on their toes yet not give unfair advantage to those that are 'playing to win'. So we want to do another single guardsman entry? That sounds good to me, I have an idea for that Armour needs doing anyway, it's too cool to pass up on (I think chimera, Valk and Russes for 3 different months, non-consecutively to spread cost ) Xmas is sorted. What about the other 6 months? Or shall we do it bi-monthly to give everyone a break inbetween? Ps. I am liking that people are getting involved already

I don't see how having longer notice of what up coming comp will be coming being a problem. Fair enough the quality maybe a but better from some entrees, but the people who have little free time would get chance to enter too!

Ok Then! This/next years lineup will include (roughly): Dec 2011: Crimbo Feb 2012: Armour (Chimera/russ/valk) April 2012: Single Guardsman/woman June 2012: Armour (Chimera/Russ/valk) Aug 2012: Xenos/Heretics Oct 2012: Armour (transport/Russ/valk) Dec 2012: Crimbo Super Heavies We can have a vote on the russ/valk/chimera ones as it comes to them, that way we can play according to who has/can get what Any problems/input with this?

Oh me like a lot. I think we should demand/ask/grumble to the mods for gg to have its own place on the forum ;-)
So, just have to wait on the requirements for the crimbo comp! :-)

^ yes, a dodgy English word for christmas. Since we invented the language, we can change it at any time without prior concent or notice being given. Now go forth and make it an American/Danish thing too!

Aye.. Crimbo!.. interesting debate in the yahoo answers.. not cockney rhyming slang as far as I know, just a 'shortening' of a longer word. Anyways.. its great to have an advance idea of the GG entries, as I made a couple of scenic markers for the objective GG but it took waaaay too long to get round to it, so now I can plan ahead a bit I might have a chance of entering! for those who might be interested in what I made here you go:

ps.. could armour remain err... armour, by which I mean a generalised armoured theme (to include russ, chimera, ordnance etc) thus giving me the flexibility to convert up a stormlord with all the troop capacity visable (all hunkered down behind stowage etc)...
pps.. yay.. I'm getting all excited already!

what about these events..
flyer model - anything goes, transport, drone, bomber, jetpack etc...as long as its IG themed and flies
fast vehicle - anything goes, buggy, bike, jetbike ,ATV, sentinal etc (as long as its IG themed)
water assault - water themed guardman or vehicle, subs, combat diver, water landing craft, hovercraft etc... anything goes as long as its water themed and IG.
i think you can see where im going with this... more themed events, allow for a broader range of ideas... with this in mind we could even make up new unit types for future gaming... inspire others to make the themed minis. also with a specific theme, people know what the aim is, rather than making something that dont fit exactly within the event parameters... or i could be wrong... bitchslap me if i am.

treadiculous: Surely that could go in 'super heavy'? AshotNINJA : I was thinking that the 'chimera' could be just a non-flying troop transport, 'valk' could be flyers and 'russ' could be tanks in general, not wanting to give too much of the game away and all that Those are great ideas, and perhaps you should keep them to yourself and give us a nice surprise with your winning entry.....!!! ;D If you have a look at the past GG's you'll see that although the restrictions are restrictive (IE it will consist of one model counting as X in the IG codex blah blah blah boring boring boring....) there is a lot of room for manouvre regarding conversions. If you want to do a submarine troop carrier for 'troop transport' (or whatever it ends up being) then go for it By making the themes less specific, people can come up with their own twists on what they think is "40K", and it can be something useable for their armies rather than something redundant that'll sit and gather dust after the competition. Again, doing things by force organisation is a good idea, although it could exclude certain builds of army. What if you don't have "fast attack" units? Even armies in general can be excluded just by making it 'anything IG'. Just because we're a guard forum, it doesn't mean that we don't want other stuff entered from other armies, right? Take the awesome Tau Samurai for the Character Contest I really appreciate the thoughts here guys, obviously your overactive imaginations are beginning to warm up. Alls I will say in preparation for Decembers competition is: Make sure you've written your christmas list to St.Nicholas/Father christmas/Santa/Sandy Klawz (and that you can pretty much do what you damn well want!!! ANARCHY!!!!)

Example: Dec 2011: Crimbo Feb 2012: Dedicated Transport April 2012: HQ or Elites June 2012: Fast Attack Aug 2012: Troops Oct 2012: Heavy Support Dec 2012: Crimbo Super Heavies

armour 3 times a year might be a bit much, i'm not sure about others on here but buying armour 3 times a year for a painting comp might be a bit much. i'd also prefer to build squads as i dont have any or plan to have any armour. might be woth looking at the golden deamon ideas for catagories

Ahh see this always happens Its impossible to do this kind of thing and make EVERYBODY happy Golden Daemon catagories are good for a one-off competition, although I do think a bit of structure gives everyone a strong starting point. I totally agree that 3 lots of 'armour' in a year, especially for someone who just wants to paint for the competition, is a lot. I am simply pandering to requests This is in no way a definative list, and can (and most likely will) be changed as appropriate. What if we finally get a plastic vets kit next year? What about when the Hydra kit gets done? And that's just Imperial Guard... I'd definately be up for doing a 'squad' type competition though, that's a great idea. It'd be a real test to see how well someone can paint over 10 models rather than just one, and themes can be established across several models... Consider that one nicked Foster ;D AshotNINJA : Funnily enough I like being proved wrong! It's easier to learn like that After doing a few of these last year, I have a rough idea of how to set the parameters to make it an 'even playing field' for all entrants. I think that making a few extra conditions for the winning entries will make it much better for those wanting to improve their painting, which is what I wanted this to be about really. I'll shut up now though, I think I'm giving too much away and I know you guys love surprises
