Does anyone know how one would make the arm-mounted gun on an IG commander like the game version?

The minis are a bit too small for that to work nicely. You'd probably have to sculpt your own for the best effect.

Glue one of the loose pistols or boltguns to the top of the pointing arm? You would have to GS a bracelet of sorts, otherwise it will look silly

First of all, the commander in DoW wears power armor, so that might make it look a bit better. After that, would a cut up storm bolter be too big?

Wait. I'm talking about the IG commander, not the SM commander. He would have had carapace armour.

I'm pretty sure the IG commander wore power armor. It seemed a bit bulky to be carapace. I believe the reasoning was that even with his squad of advisors, he'd be too flimsy in carapace. It's not as impressive as space marine power armor, but I believe it's still considered power armor.
I could be wrong, though.

Well, we were both wrong. He isn't even wearing armour.

After a google image search, it appears I was mistaken. I was thinking of the Dark Crusade commander, who is wearing what I would describe as carapace (although this may be a campaign upgrade, I see another "unarmored" picture).
However, his hands are huge, possibly powerfists. There's also images of him with lightning claws (with the attached bolter in both cases). So to answer the original question, maybe attach a cut up boltgun/pistol to a powerfist.
I always assumed he wore power armor because his model always seemed bulkier to me.
