I was thinking of ordering whatever valhallans I could and painting them to look like red army soldiers from world war 2. Would this work? I got the idea when I noticed the chimeras look like the old soviet T-34's, maybe I could even get some tank rider valhallans? Any suggestions?

w00t Valhallans with converted Chimera T-34s ;D Sounds like an awesome idea. Perhaps after finishing my Skaven, the 14. Elyria, the Pathfinders and some other minor projects, I'll start an Airborne army (101. Vendoland)

Valhallens are made to model after the Soviet Russians in WWII. I think this would be awesome, if you can make some russian model looking tanks, with rounder turrets and longer barrels to them. That will make them look more accurate for Soviet tanks. Also snow effects would be awesome. Snow and mud.

I added a red star and russian writing to the chimera turrets, even though my armys color scheme is blue...well big blue soviet t-34 in the 41st millenium!

You can convert Leman russes as Sovit KV-1 heavy tanks! That's true that valhallans look like WWII soviet troops. You can also use Vostroyans to figure some Elite Valhallans (storm troopers or carapace armour..)

my friend has a traitor guard army (tau auxillary type of traitor) and his tau and guard all have a big red star icon and the whole commie vibe - thusly, his IG has been sprouting a whole bunch of valhallan models as of late and it's really cool to see on the table. one kinda gets a bit (Gods help me for saying this as a cadian commander) bored to see cadian infantry models over and over in guard armies.

Yeah that's really a bit of a shame. But many players don't like Catachan minis (they're too muscular...) an any other models are a real pain to convert or buy... So if they'd release a thrid plastic guard army it'll be really cool. or at least put aditional bit sprues in the existing boxes so you could 'convert' your army a bit more...

I agree with you knight: sprues enabling us to convert would be great!! Imagine: weapons sprues, rucksacks, ammo pouches and so on....a dream!

A dream that perhaps will never come true... Would be really cool if you could walk in a GW store and you'd see 3 Guard players and no army would look like the other. I'd even pay 40€ for a box just to get these addtional sprues...

Well the catachan mini's are steroid pumped lunatics. The Vostroyans arent even around anymore(available in store), just like the poor steel legion. I am going to order as many valhallans as I can when I get the cash though, especially the autocannon loader, he looks just like vassily zaitsev from enemy at the gates it scares me. Despite the fact hes carrying an autocannon clip. I would love it if GW would release some guardsmen boxes that would just be like all sorts of random heads, bodies and legs, like a imperial selection or something like that. I would love to see valhallan plastics though!!! Someday...maybe...

all in time.
I guarantee you we'll see more IG model lines.
IG really has far and away the most usable models and diversity than any other army.

They won't do that. It's too expensive and won't bring enough profit in the end. But it's a shame that they don't do it. I really liked the old Cadians and Valhallan minis, but I dislike the old lasguns and to do a weapon swap on all the metal minis... And imho the new Cadians are armored too heavily while the Catachans are armored too lightly...

Well nomatter if they'll rerelease them we can still order them.
Speaking of which! Yesterday I ordered 2 Valhallan autocannon loaders, no other russians...I mean valhallans were available, but I also ordered a praetorian casualty! Its odd, all the praetorians are available but the valhallans werent except for the missile launcher team and the autocannon loader, which is alright, I mean the loader looks enough like regular infantry to pass off as one. Its eerie how much the model looks like vassilij zaitsev in enemy at the gates. Hopefully I can also pick up a few more boxes of infantry and a couple of chimeras and paint them in soviet colour schemes with red stars on the front of the tanks instead of my blue/green soviet army. Any other tips on maybe converting some shocktroops to look more like soviets?

Okay! The order should be coming in very soon. Does anybody know how to repaint troops? My cadians are blue fatigued with cadian green armor, I want to make them into soviets, how would I do this? Like catachan green fatigues and armour with different highlights on each and red straps and details?

Given that the Cadians are the basic guardsmen, it wouldn`t be too hard for GW to release simple alternatives to them. The only difference between mordian and preatorian guardsmen and cadian guardsmen would be the helmets and shoulder pads. Soviet/ Valhallan looking guardsmen could also be created by releasing a set of heads with the cap that the Soviets would sometimes wear.
Therefore rather than creating an all new plastic boxed set they could make simple conversion packs with different heads to represent the different armies (like with all the different shoulder pads for the different Space Marine chapters)
Well, I can dream at least.

Well the Praetorians wore tunics, same with the mordians and they also wore dress pants and boots. Valhallans also wore trench coats/great coats and valenki and fur hats. But I could see that, it would kind of look like Cold War soviets.

Yeah, that would be nice too, although I would still love to see some trench coats.
