Ok so its late, and Ive been pouring over my copy of the chaos codex, but I cant seem to find where it lays out what each mark and icon gives as an upgrade to the unit if taken as a standard. any help pointing me in the right direction would be great...

thanks for the welcome back ;D
so Im reading bottom corner page 81 but it doesnt explain what it means to have the mark of Khorne, or Nurgle, or so forth... The reason I ask is that if you purchase a icon of one of the gods for a Normal chaos Space marine Sqd they cost different points, I assume (i know im making two mistakes here 1) im thinking 2) im probably wrong for thinking) that you get different benefits for taking different icons... Am I missing the point, or am I just blind to somthing that everyone else can see?

Ah, my mistake, I was thinking of Icons. Marks are on pg.25, on the left hand side. You are correct that each mark gives different effects.
Khorne helps with attacks, Slaanesh is initiative based, Nurgle affects toughness, and Tzeentch has to do with invulnerable saves.

wel that explains my confusion... the codex I had went from page 24 to 27. so I took it back to the store. thats somthing I would never have cought unless someone pointed it out to me. now it all makes at least a little more sense...
Now on to a matter of opinion, I have a lovely fabius Bile model that Im going to use in an up coming game, and since i love all things quirky Im going to use his enhanced warriors so matter of opinion 1 is on a reading of the rule on enhanced warriors (pg 53) I read it as only being able to be used on regular Chaos SM, I only ask because i played once upon a time against a guy who used it on beserkers (not pretty) opinion 2 if you were to take normal marines what icon wuld you take for them knowing that enhanced warriors will always get at least a +1 to streangth?
thanks again for the help...

The rule states any number of "Chaos Space Marines" may buy it. I can see why your friend thought he could take it on Khornites, but no, it's only the CSM squad since it refers to that unit by name.
If it was me, I wouldn't take an Icon. 15 to 30pts for a squad, not counting transport or weapons, is more than enough. If you had to have one though, I'd vote Khorne for the extra swing, and give them a power weapon.

I've ran a list all with icons of tzeentch represented by a force field generator as i played alpha legion. Good fun it was.

Personally I hate icons. Especially since they nerfed the tar out of them with the current dex. The other reason is now with the new GK dex, many people are taking vindicare again, and he can pick of your icon bearer with ease and POOF no more dedication (which is why it's so retarded). The points are better spent on ANYTHING else (expect possessed).

But possessed are cooooool. I had this exact same problem though, I spent a whole load of time looking for the marks in the different wargear sections

Think in terms of Models, Fluff, that sort of thing. They've got the worst Coolness to Rules ratio in the entire Game.
Still better off spending the Points on them than Spawn, though.

I might say the same thing about Spawn...(Coolness of models Vs Rules, not so much fluff...the Possessed have cooler fluff I suppose.) Ah well...at least I have Gift of Chaos to use my Spawn for something... The Possessed got convered into Chosen.

I like the Possessed Models a lot more than the Spawn Models, so for me, the ratio's a bit more skewed there. Spawn are in pretty much the same boat, though: The best Models they've ever had and the worst Rules at the same time.

Yeah the models are one of the best for the dex, but they're just so terrible that I can't even imagine buying them for that. Also Westrider... You're sig is awesome. I whole heartedly agree with it... however it's kinda strange that it makes GK seem like Korne followers.

I ended up with a set of Possessed in a Battleforce, and just split the parts up and used them one or two per Model on regular CSMs. Works better for a more dedicated force like Word Bearers than something like Iron Warriors, but it let me get the cool Models in without having to deal with the terrible Rules. On my .sig: They're not Khornate, they're Ninjas
