Dang, these are beautiful conversions and models! I'm actually curious to know how you went about photographing them.

The pistols are Ivory, as I recall when asked about "pearl handled" pistols, Patton's response was that "only a pimp from a cheap New Orleans sleeper house would carry pearl handled pistols". Just thought I'd through that in before the ghost of the good General came after you.

FixT at any rate, thanks for the catch! Dang, these are beautiful conversions and models! I'm actually curious to know how you went about photographing them. I use a desk lamp with a daylight bulb when I paint, so when I take pictures, I move it to the front of the model to light it up. I use a sheet of 11x7 white paper and prop it in from of something tall to give it a rolled look, then use a digital camera with a supermacro mode to take close up pictures, and post on photobucket. My secret is out! After I was able to glue it together, I went to a nearby hobby store and purchased some Plasticard to finish off the turret and hull, and to Home Depot for some medium sized washers that would fit inside the turret hole. After cutting the plasticard to fit the turret and hole in the hull, I glued the washer to the bottom of the plasticard on the hole, and used one Neodymium magnet in the turret. After it sert, works like a charm! The tank turret swivels, and I can remove it if damaged or destroyed, etc. I'm not totally convinced of the "camo" roll I made out of a lint roll. I'll look again after I paint it separately. The shield and backpack with gun will be glued on once the tank is painted of course. I've decided that all vehicles in my army will have a shield of some sort to reflect the Regimental Banner of the 228th... as a Shield, when borne on the arms, represents the defender. I think I will also have a Horse of some kind as well... again as a nod to the banner. This will either be a decal on the side, or on a small flag of some kind. (EDIT: I eventually decided NOT to add a shield, but I may still change my mind again! ~ Pax) I added this bit as a way for the tank crew to access more fuel. Flip a switch when you run out, and bam! more fuel. Hey, this not real life we are talking about. It could happen! Its made from an electric circuit of some kind.

I'd be willing to bet that the rolled up camo will look fine once painted. Looks like you've managed to recover the vehicle well so far - the final proof will be in the painting...

A great bit of restoration work. Also your army is very colouful and distinctive; brilliant stuff.

Again, thank you for the kudos. ;D Remember this tank? This tank was very beat up. It needed lots of love and care to restore it to its original stature. I have magnetized the turret, magnetized the Heavy Stubber (forgot to take a picture), and put it back together. What do you think?

Are you part mechanicus? A brilliant job my friend, hardly recognisable as the same tank, may I suggest naming it "pheonix".

What do you think? I think it's magic, to take the piece of crap you first showed us and convert it so well, it amazes! And what did you use for the ladder? I looked back over your steps but couldn't find the info, a ladder makes sense, I never thought about how the men get in.

Ah, its not magic, I've had most of my army painted for about 2 months now. These are all models I have painted and converted over the past year and half. I'm sorry if any one was mislead. The ladder was made from simple paper clips. Just drill some holes and glue them in, once you have the right size. Also, on the turret, I added some extra armor to cover up a rather plain area, behind where the gun and backpack is. Some plasticard cut to the right shape, and added rivets from a bit of plasticard rod.

No you didn't mislead, if I was given 2 years I wouldn't have pulled that off. Oh well thats just me

"Phoenix" it is then. I was going with "Victory", but Phoenix is better suited to this tank. I am working on name plates to add to the sides of the tanks. I went a different route on some models recently, and picked up some Forgeworld Elysians from a gaming buddy. While I thought the detail in the model was outstanding, I had some nightmarish issues putting this squad together. First off, the superglue would not stick; either to the base or the model. For a vast majority of the squad, I had to either pin the arms, or the legs to the base. Paint rubbed off way too easily. I'm thinking that my models may been older (at leat 5 years), which would explain how brittle the models were. Apparently, one of my models dropped to the floor, and an arm "disappeared". I had to craft a new one from a cadian and green-stuff. Anyway, here is my squad of Elysians. I'm going to use them as Stormtrooper count-as, or a Veteran Squad in Carapace armor and a Demo doctrine (since one of them has a Demo charge... conveniently in the same style as my other models. Bonus!) Their special style of a Las Gun will work well as a Hot-Shot. They are also dressed in black, as be-fitting Special Operations troopers, like Marbo and my "Ratlings". Since I'll be using these as Stormtroopers on occasion, and there are 10 of them, I split them into 2 Five man teams. Team Alpha, lead by Sargent Andursun... : And Team Beta, lead by Corporal Jonez (he is the one with the Grenade). The Grenade Launcher will also count as a Melta if I wish. Here is also a close-up of Sargent Andursun. I repositioned the hand so it looks like he is at rest. (EDIT: His Stripes have been fixed to look neater.) And his Comm Officer. I added some plasticard rod to give the Vox an antenna. Works pretty well, actually. The vox is pure fluff, since Stormtroopers do have access to a Vox (strange, that) but since they may also take the place of some Vet squad, its there if I need it.

Very nice... I also went down the route of having "non-standard" models to represent veterans in my army (except I used the cheaper, less impressive Catachans...). The tank was an amazing success! Lot's of kudos to you for your powers of resurrection

And... I here is another tank I have done: My Manticore! And let me tell you, this is a beast in combat. Well worth the points, and having more than one (two, I think) is a good way to go. Make sure you are behind some cover, or near troops to protect you from Deepstriking, Outflanking, or Long-range sniping from various anti-tank units. Manticore 034 - "Justus" ... 160 points 4 Storm Eagle Rockets, Heavy Flamer I decided to go with a three-color stripe pattern to differentiate between my transports, Heavy Support, Fast Attack, and Tanks. I liked the blue and green stripe to brighten the grey monotone color on the tank, and the red square with a yellow triangle is my symbol for Artillery, as is the Red Thunderbolt in a Fist (such a cool image!). I also have the CCMMXVIII on the front of the tank, as will all tanks. The CCMMXVIII is of course, 228th in Roman Numerals. I decided to paint the tail-gate like its been blasted by multiple rocket blasts and the heat has scorched it considerable. I kinda like the look, actually. I have also magnetized and numbered the rockets 1 - 4 so I know where to place each rocket after firing. The olive square on each rocket also ties the tank into the rest of the army, along with the grey. (Edit - I know,,, they are switched around. Its magnetized now... no going back to fix! ~ Pax)I do think I need to go back and dry-brush some silver on the tracks though. *muses* (Edit: This has been fixed already! ~ Pax)Comments, suggestions, and feedback is always appreciated and encouraged! ~ Pax ~

Happily it looks like you left them off of your model The 228th look very nice. I've picked out a nice colour scheme for my infantry but I still need to work out a style for my tanks. I think I'll be re-reading this thread a couple of times for pointers.

I used this site that converts modern numbers into Roman NumeralsHere is yet another tank to add to my ever-growing collection, and frankly it's a pretty rare find, I think (At least, its only found on Ebay!). Griffon Tank 012 - "Raptor" < 75 points, Heavy Mortar and Heavy Bolter, with optional Storm Bolter>It of course has the Cadian Gate symbol on the hatch, and the CCXXVIII (228th) number on the front. This particular Griffon if designated 012. I think each Artillery will be 01, 02, 03, etc. See the Manticore for an example, the Manticores are 03. I added symbols for the hatches that are around the gun for added flare. I think they look great there. Taken from the Eldar, but still. And of course, the main Heavy Mortar is removable, as is the Storm Bolter. I may attempt to make some enclosed armor at some point, but not just yet. The tracks have been drybrushed, just not when I had taken this picture.

Better safe than sorry huh Pax? I've been around roman numerals enough that I converted it as I read along and then when I got to the 228th part at the end of the sentence (was browsing thread casually) I had to rub my eyes and wonder if I'd had a stupid moment BTW do you have any websites that cover the coloured strips on your tank tread, it's been a long time since I read about them.

Your tanks are looking very nice, Pax!
For the camo netting roll, if you aren't pleased with what you have currently, might I suggest that you try fabricating one out of gauze? That's how I made mine, by taking pieces of gauze and either rolling them up and wrapping them with string (or just applying them as patches to the tanks) and then painting them with thinned down white glue. It gives a really nice result.

I'll have to try that, Trooper. I've been "sculpting" lately with gauze for my cloaks on my Sniper / Scout Cadre, so that might work. Either way, I have not used my cammo netting, so have not had a need to paint it. Indeed, Emptyhat. I want to make sure I don't have a mistake. I just have to say, I love UK Bits and Kits. I had acquired the Pask model when I was given the Manticore, but I didn't think I would ever use it with a tank (mostly because I am currently without tanks.). Then I remembered the Guard Legs from the Tank Upgrade sprue, and noticed how well they would work with Pask, cut off at his knees as it were. I like how the model appears to be listening in on the battle on his own Vox bead, supremely confident in his ability to lead this army to victory. (is just me, or does this model look like he has tusks?) However, I decided against using him as my Commanding Officer as I wanted earlier, so I choose to make him my Master of the Fleet instead. He has that air about him too ("The Imperial Navy is far superior to the infantry scum we ferry to and from battles, etc") And so it was that I painted up my Officer of the Fleet, Commander Bayern, Adjunct Naval Liaison Officer of the Hand Above, a day after I converted him. He went pretty quick actually, which makes me happy. And just for scale, here is the Officer next to Commissar Varese (Commissars will be the next post). As you can see, not too much bigger than other models. And yes, he is leaning forward. I like to think he is intent on how best to deploy the Fleet above to maximize air superiority.

Nothing wrong with a little height variance in your models - the conversion seems to have gone to gether really well, very impressive. It struck me that he would make a rather groovy commander model for a Mordian army...

I appreciate it. By the way, Edinburgh is wonderful city, and the view from the castle is fantastic, I was in Scotland for a wedding about a year ago now, and even got to visit the GW store there. Didn't buy anything, my banker (points to his ring finger) was with me and would not approve a transfer of funds. Store was kinda small though...
