Here are a few small tyranid lists I have been playing around with.
This one has lots of Genestealers, I love me some genestealers.
Tyranid Prime +death spitter +bonesword & lashwhip
5 warriors +death spitters
6 Genestealers
5 Genestealers
5 Genestealers
total 499
This one has a little bit from all over the place, a bit more of the classic Nids theme I think.
Tyranid Prime +death spitter +bonesword & lashwhip
3 warriors +death spitters
5 Genestealers
10 Gargoyles
Carnifex +frag spines
total 500
Anyone have any thoughts?

Like the Stealer list, but don't you think they might have a hard time getting to their target at 500 points most armies don't bring alot of models, so if you outflank those stealers they might end up in a wrong place away from the enemy..? Just a thought.. The other list is just like you say, a bit all over the place, but that might actually be a advantage in the low point games, since opponents might divide his fire more than in the first list where the "Dangers" are easier to keep trak of.. And then there is also the typical Nid stuff, like range and mobility, where list 2 has the Goyles which are semi mobil, list 1 isn't very mobil except the outflanking deployment options.. So a Eldar or DE might not be "catch-able".. Just my thoughts..

i think the first list is pretty good, but id recommend throwing in a broodlord with implant attack in one of those stealer squads, i know broodlords get hated on by alot of people but with implant attack it can dish out hurt.
the second list is less solid but i think it would be stable against mini mech armys, even though i love my carnifex and i run two, i think a mawloc would be a better option, however if you really want the fex give it adreanal glands to it can hit STR 10 on the charge

Did you make any lists with a hormagaunt/termagaunt focus?

A carnifex at 500 points? you are going to give somebody a heart attack...

Actually, a Fex ain't too hard to deal with at 500 Points anymore. If you could still give them the extra Wound, Toughness, and Save, it might be a problem, but a basic Fex hasn't broken 500 Point Games since maybe 3rd Ed.

When I did get around to playing my tyranids again I used a Tyranid Prime, lots of warriors, 20 genestealers, 5 ymgarl genestealers, 10 gargoyles, and a Trygon Prime. went up against Space Wolves... used the trygon's tunnel ability for the first time...got all my stealers to come in just about where I wanted them. Ymgarls ate some Long Fangs. Trygon survived long enough to chew on a shooty dread. Warriors ate krak missiles and died. Gargolyes fought and killed 4 of 6 Wolf Scouts then died. Oh yeah, and I had a Carnifex too...he managed to knock the weapon off a razorback with his bio plasma then continued to get shot to bits and died...which is why my trygon survived that turn come to think of it... the Carnifex is an expensive bullet magnet...but hey...at least he's pretty tough. Did you make any lists with a hormagaunt/termagaunt focus? I'm not crazy about gaunts...and I don't really want to make a gaunt laying thingymagig alien queen monster beast to poop them out...which seems to be everyones favorite thing around the internet...them and the hiveguard...I don't have any hiveguard either. So probably not.
