Alright, you've rumbled me. I am Mat Ward. And if you call me out, I will RAPE YOUR FLUFF!

*Exploderates Syphon* *Exploderates every bit of Syphon produced by the initial exploderation* *Repeats exploderation of Syphon bits ad nauseum* In FoD the Necrons not only have conversations with one another (and plot against each other) but they also speak to the humans. Oh, and there was a line about, I think it was the Flayed One Lord character, where one of them was regretting its "lost humanity." Yes, you read that correctly: humanity.

Besides the fact they were degenerate tech-heretical XENOS before they became the Harvesters they are now... Exactly! I just about threw the book in the trash at that point. I don't think I've ever wanted to throw away a book before. That's saying a lot because I own an old (published in 1939), unabridged, and annotated English language translation of "Mein Kampf". It is the most toxic, offensive, and disgusting work that I have ever read--to the point that I have only ever been able to get halfway through it before saying "I can't read anymore," and set it aside. Granted the book was published in America by a group that was trying to alert the American public to what Hitler was up to, and in the annotations they called him out on all of the historically inaccurate B.S. that he was spewing, but it is still a vile, vile piece of writing...

Besides the fact they were degenerate tech-heretical XENOS before they became the Harvesters they are now... Erm, are you trying to say that isn't true? They were xenos, called the necrontyr, before they were turned into the necrons. Or have I missed your meaning? I like the idea of them plotting against each other. All of the C'Tan want to eat each other anyway. The lords could always communicate, albeit in binary or something. Maybe they just got better translation software. Oh, and I don't think that Mat Ward, the stormraven or the dreadknight are that bad. I better get my asbestos underwear for heretic burning that is coming...

I do kind of like the Dreadknight, but disagree violently with you about Ward and the Space Guppy. *Desires to purge Ward with flame* The point is, that in all of the previous Necron fluff it was stated that only the most powerful of the Necrons retained even but a shred of their prior personalities and memories from before they were transformed into machines. Now we have them chatting with each other, plotting against each other, making noise when they get shot, stabbing each other in the back (almost literally) and talking--in Gothic--to humans. It flies in the face of everything that has been written about 'crons before, and it really urines me off... It's just... Awful.

Necron[/u] regrets its lost humanity[/u].....
See the problem?

Well I will have to withhold judgement as I have not read the source you are using. However, could it not be put down to the Necrons becoming more awake, and so more able to act? Doubtful I suppose...
PS: The "Windy Pidgeon" looks nice...
PPS: @ Walrus: That is just bad word usage, not a bad idea per se.

Any time a man not only obliterates and army's premise and makes them the exact opposite for no reason, it's not good. That's why I'm worried about him writing the Toasters. For basic units and rules? They'll probably get out okay. For the SCs? Get ready for robo-rape.

If it said something along the lines of "Goddamn, but regret being a murdering robot and giving up my necrontyr-ness" it would make more sense...

Yup.
Anyhoo, Reds, if you would like to borrow FoD so you can confirm the shenanigans first hand, I'd be happy to lend you my copy.
And be happy if you forgot to return it to me after you were done reading it.

i agree, i also like the Storm raven dreadknight and matt ward. Well, we agree on one out of three things. *Executes the new conscript twice for liking Ward and the Space Guppy* But yeah, I'm thinking my Necrons will probably be staying in the box that they're in, unless there is some sort of way to build a force of them without having to resort to special character Lords...

So...Necron will be retconned to be Human? What? Now, we know that some of the Pariahs might have been Human Blanks, but all of them? Oh, the Necrontyrity!

Necron fluff is very old and somewhat messed up in the whole eldar gods deal where it's hard to say if it was them or the chaos god slaanesh or both. Anyway i'm finally urineed off by ward and it took the longest time for it to happen. Making grey knights sorcerors urineed me off but this is a bit much. I don't mind necron lords that have personality but if their troops have any conscious thought then i'm going to be urineed. Next human necrons are pariahs with no exception. Do not fornicate with me Ward! C'tan taken out in place of SC's i can understand but still it's lame.

I'm hoping that it's just lazy writing and lack of attention to detail by Nick Kyme (who wrote FoD), but he's also supposedly an editor for BL so it kind of makes me shudder. But yeah, only Pariahs should be of human extraction...

Walrus: That's because you haven't heard the fluff yet. Matt Ward doesn't seem to rape balance and units too badly though. Thank god for him being decent with that. Personally i don't mind necrons with different colored gauss weapon rods. You can use each color to distinguish squads a little more even if having no identity is part of the army. If nothing else it'd be a good way to keep squads that are close together separate.

I am quite prepared for the fluff rape I think, but I have to agree, Matt Ward is good at writing unit rules with a nice balance...

one of the bits on the rumor on the second page listed a character called the Stormcaller, I would like to say that, that fact alones makes me doubt it, as it would just confuse the poor little creatures who obssess with characters and the Space Puppies would be annoyed to be linked to such a sinister race.
one of the things I loved about the Necrons is that they were easy to paint, spray black, spray silver, highlight, wash, insert rod.... an entire unit could take 30 mins and look decent.

Hmmm, there may be a ray of hope. I'm hearing rumors on several other sites that apparently the Necron codex is being written as a tag team effort--Ward will be doing the rules, and someone else the fluff. So maybe it won't be totally awful? I still don't like the idea of Lords having anything more than a glimmer of their old personalities from before they became machines, though...

In this instance I'm suspecting they wrote "humanity" rather than the Necron equivalent (Necrontyrity?) as it would be clearer what they meant by it... I really am playing Devils advocate today...
As for them "chatting" to each other... please no. They're supposed to be little more than automata who "lose a little bit more of themselves everytime they are [repaired]"
