Ello..
I'm amazed this subject isn't already in a thread!.. being that this game is as close to playing guard as can be found.. (even more so than dawn of war in my opinion, though I haven't tried DoW2 yet as need better processor!)
...so I wondered what your CoH tips, tactics and preferences might be?
I haven't yet explored the axis side, and currently favour the british for their earthshaker platforms and mobile HQ .. and tend toward long defencive games with no armour
is there an imbalance between axis / allies as seems to be rumoured?

I havnt played this for what feels like years! I always rolled with the british and went Armour heavy... just like my guard army lol. I tended to use the Sherman with a flame thrower for anti infantry. Also for tank hunting I normally went for one Sherman as bait for the Panzas, while the other went for the rear armour.

I've played CoH and I loved it! The British are fun to play and I usually went Engineers if I played them, but my favorite army was always the US Paratroopers. I would play them with a balance of normal GIs, and Armour. Some of my favorite tactical moments occured when a group of rifleman were pinned down by a bunker. Drop a para team in a flank position and satchel charge that to hell, or just go all out and drop the p47 on it. Fun times.
That being said I have played all forces, and I have fun playing each of them. If you know how to play there is no real imbalance. Playing the British and the German Panzer army is more complicated than the US or the Wehrmacht, but they are not advantaged in anyway.
Cheers, SaN

I did feel there was a bit of an imbalance, I always went Defensive Axis and the ability to make everything 3rd level elite and an 88 platform just outclassed the no vet allied armor and infantry, but that might just be my opinion...

The whole commander tree system is like a big game of scissors paper rock. If you have one class you can conquer on enemy, no sweat. You will lose to another enemy, and the third enemy will come down to skill.

Bump for interest.
I love COH and COH2. 2 is a bit better just because you can play as the Russians though the campaign wasn't as good as the first.
I'll play online if anyone still plays.
