Yeah, I had the same thoughts. I justified it because it is its secondary weapon (the primary weapons are coming). The turret-mounted weapons will still be above the cover and undamaged. I wanted a symmetric design (I went to all the trouble of narrowing the hull a half inch to make the rear symmetric about the engine) and this was the best option that actually had a way to see out the front. Also, I wanted to keep it as compact as possible and now the bolter fits within the side profile of the tread sections (the barrel just barely shows.)

Yeah, I agree with Woz. It does look really good though. I take my hat off to you for putting this much effort into your tanks

Thanks. I'm more into the model-building part of WH40K than the playing part; partly by choice, partly because my free time tends to come from 12-2 a.m..
Maybe I'll write the low-mount gun into the fluff. Not sure how, but I'll come up with something.

Maybe the crews are sadistic and like shooting people in the legs then running over them

Nothing quite like popping a Bolter shell into a Necron's knee cap!

I don't know about Necrons (don't have any to check), but if you put a guardsman in front of it, the barrel is chest level. Maybe that's the idea. Since they are drop tanks, they tend to engage at closer ranges, so they mount the bolters lower.

perhaps you could also create a drop ship to lad the tanks. the big ones do look a little big for deep striking, but a lander could drop it right behind the lines without scatter . would take some VDR though.
