Howdy Ya'll! I've been a very long time away from the hobby, and certainly from the message boards. After a few games the other day at my local hobby store, however, I'm afraid I've caught the bug again. What can you do?
Anyways, I tacked together some lists of various point values, and decided to throw up this 1000 point list to see if I still remember anything about how to play this damn game. It's meant to be about 3 parts competitive to 2 parts fun. Let me know what you think!
HQ
Company Command Squad
-Straken
-2x flamer
ELITES
Ratling Snipers
-4x Ratlings
Guardsman Marbo
TROOPS
Veteran Squad Alpha
-Lascannon
-2x plasma gun
Veteran Squad Beta
-Lascannon
-2x plasma gun
Veteran Squad Charlie
-Lascannon
-2x plasma gun
Infantry Platoon
-Platoon Command Squad: 2x flamer; meltabombs (Platoon Commander Only)
-3x Infantry Squads: 1x heavy bolter per squad; 1x grenade launcher per squad
FAST ATTACK
Vendetta Gunship Squadron
-1 Vendetta Gunship
1000 points
76 models
1 vehicle
I designed this army to function as a relatively static force. Generally, the Veteran Squads and Infantry Platoon deploy in good firing positions in a corner, effectively "strong-siding" one side of the board. Ideally, the Infantry Platoon is placed in front of the Veteran Squads to absorb fire and give the Vets time to fall back should the line get assaulted early. Both the PCS and the CCS hang back with the gunline to give orders and counterattack/head-off units that advance and threaten the firebase.
The Ratlings infiltrate somewhere annoying and kill as much as they can before getting killed off. Their role is to tie up an enemy unit for a few turns. Marbo's job is similar -- he is there to jump in and harass the enemy for as long as he can.
The Vendetta offers fire support, and gives me the mobility to play the CCS or a Veteran squad a little more aggressively should the need arise.
That's it! I am open to any advice on potential tactics and/or list changes! Let me know what you think!
Thanks,
-S.B.
