i have a question. why does games workshop even see the need to change the rules? 5ed seems pretty fine to me, and Rolling thunder, can you PM me a link to a website about that game?

GW changes up the editions every few years to switch which Models sell well, give a boost to flagging product lines, make people with established Armies buy some new stuff to stay competitive, stuff like that. Eventually, you get a big enough collection that it's not really a problem, and the new editions just become interesting tactical challenges, but it's usually good for at least one extra wave of purchases from any player who doesn't quit.
Cynical? Yeah, but it fits the established facts pretty well.

And, for a non-cynical two cents: the past three editions have been improvements to gameplay. Not in every respect, but overall.

Alright, I was wondering if I should post this as it is probably a load of bullnuts. However, even if it is it makes you think about rumours in their proper context.

Rumours suck. At best they are something to keep us occupied until the release date.

I don't know trickstick. The rumor mill has been fairly accurate at times even with warhammer fantasy and other such things. They had pictures of january's new skaven before they were even out. I think even the blood angels were known about. Plus what about all the pictures that were leaked. For one restroom break that guy certainly leaked a lot of info. I mean unless he was taking a serious crap then i don't think leaky would've leaked very much. I could be wrong though.
I suppose he leaked actual pages from the codex but if i remember correctly we've had some mild leaks from codexes in other languages too. I don't know this fake information they claim to have leaked could itself be a lie. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Rumours are always iffy. For example, the IG codex rumours:
Taken from about a year before the IG codex came out, so the time frame is similar. About fifty percent hit rate I would say.

Well to be fair some of it may have gone through a changing process before the final book. I don't know maybe they got some of their info wrong.

Also possible, that much of what is being designed as 6th edition will be "removed" prior to release, and thus become the first two expansions, or be fed into army specific codex releases - but while they are testing stuff they run it as a single rule set.

Does GW still playtest stuff before it is released?

Does GW still playtest stuff before it is released? I can say with relative certainty that GW and myself do about the same level of playtesting for our rules - the author and a bunch of friends sit down to play a few pick-up games and then they release them. Compared to the amount of playtesting guys like Ambush Alley and other do, it's pretty weak.

My wife and I are closing on a house on the 10th and there will be a dedicated 40K room. I am looking forward to finally having my own table and a place to just play pickup games where my friends and I can do fun random stuff like that.

Sir, I would like it noted that you have a beautiful, understanding woman, a house and apparently steady employ - you are blessed beyond imagining. Hail to McCaptain!

I still have a place in my heart for 3rd edition, sure it was broken as hell but so much more fun with the White Dwarf armies and lists that was when I first dicovered Death Korps of Krieg in issue 264 (2001). Kinda feels too soon for a 6th ed.
Man I miss the out classy White Dwarves

A couple weeks ago, I was down at my FLGS BSing with a bunch of other old vets before a Tournament. Most of it was talk about how horrible 2nd Ed was. I think the only thing any of us wanted back from that period was Cyboars.
