I don't know, second edition vehicle rules were fun. Having speed bands, damage locations and the turret randomly flying off and landing on people was a laugh.

Yeah, and so was taking 3 hours for a Game with 25 Models on each side. Almost a third of which was spent rolling to see what Blind Grenades and Plasma Blasts did.
I'll take one of the editions where I can field at least a proper IG Company and still finish a Game in less than a day, thanks.

Like throwing anti-plant grenades against someone in a wood or having a misfire with a cyclone.

I happened to really enjoy second edition. I think that the game has gone downhill since third...

I wasn't a big fan of 4th ed, and third was tricky since they kept adding rules amendments to it in the form of White Dwarf articles (firepoints for tanks for example were not standard rules) and you needed to get the rules update book to carry around with you.
5th, I love. I like true line of sight (although there are some changes that I could handle with the rule). Nothing bothered me more in 4th than the "terrain height" of 1-3, and how you couldn't shoot over a Close Combat. I had tons of times where I would be in a building and not be able to shoot over the building because of some dinky forest or 5v5 close combat on street level.
I really like the focus on objectives in the game and not just killing.
Victory points could make a comeback over Kill points, but I can understand how annoying they were to figure out for newer players. And in a strange way a Kill point game counter balances an Objective game pretty well. Very hard to make an army good at holding lots of things and not having tons of units so I feel its a fun tactical problem.

I agree, I think 5th is great for quick down-and-dirty action, and also remember the horible days of 2nd edition....
If I wanted that kind of detail in my games, Id play more Necromunda (not that im slagging it off, its cool, just not with more than 20 models...)

in one box you get SPESH MEHRINES... and in the other box you get SPIKEY SPESH MEHRINES....
lame. that is lame. really lame. but whatever, I have an IG collection that takes up a whole room so I guess I don't need a starter set.
I really really doubt there is going to be any major core game changes.
BS changes: Doubtful bidding..: maybe turn sequence change: probable better ICs: Probable. Targeting every 5th shot: maybe on snipers, doubt it on regular units. LD on 1 dice: doubt it.

Since we're talking nostalgia, vortex grenades and snotlings! Fun! But I'm still raging about the money grabbing GW pr*cks changing the rules just as you become comfortable with them

Don't be hating on the core sets having marines in them. Its supposed to be the "Iconic" army to get new people started in the game. Seriously if you had IG in there and you had a kid standing in a GW store to play the starter game and he was asked "Do you want to play the humans or the robots with lazers" what do you think they would pick? Superhumans in armor are pretty snazzy to someone who isn't jaded about the game, and honestly someone who really likes the other armies is just going to buy the battalion box anyhow.

Not exactly a rules rumor, but interesting none the less; I was told yesterday that Matt Ward might not be writing any codecies for 6th Ed. His contract apparently is up after 5th Ed is over.

Ok, a lot to take in there. It will either be awesome or a load of rubbish, I'll reserve judgement for now. +1

Reds if that is true AND they dont renew the contract...do we know who will be replacing him? would rather it be more a group project then just one person. Get feedback and can run it past other people who enjoy it.

Sadly, Mat Ward is doing something. He's selling GW stuff. GW hasn't cared about its established clientele for quite a while, so why would they let go the guy that's making them money just because a bunch of old guard don't like him?

I doubt GW would make the next box set CSM and SM. That means you could buy a starter army. (Since loyalists just need spikes on them, and traitors just need lack of spikes.)

I'd like to imagine the champagne is still in all the bottles when you shoot them at people. That image of people dodging all the glass bottles flying and breaking everywhere puts a smile on my face. They'll probably renew mat ward's contract. Just think though most writers eventually retire or go away. Maybe ward will have his day as well. DadCRO: Variety? It's probably going to be space marine and necrons though. They've already done orks and nids and we need a bad guy race. We've probably already done chaos marines so i'm guessing with the necrons new release it'll be necrons they face.
