If you go down to the woods today….
I’ve always like the idea of Titans, however my wallet does not. I was thinking of scratchbuilding a Reaver Titan when it occurred to me that Apocalypse games are really all about a bit of fun and mass carnage, so why not make a fun titan? Cue the concept “converting” a teddy bear into a titan. I picked up a teddy bear at an op-shop for $2 a week ago, and have started work today.
Now, I don’t consider myself a particularly deranged person, however the events of the last 24 hours have made me think otherwise. So far my work has been to pull apart the teddy and insert a rigid frame inside him so he will stand and support a little weight. I have felt like a real monster when I was pulling the poor bear apart – I even has to use a drill to break the plastic joints!
The glue I’m using is taking quite a while to dry, so I have about two days before I will have the bear back together. In the meantime I need to work out how I’m going to do the arms. Initially I was planning on doing something like the real Reaver (link below), with full guns hanging from the shoulders. This bear does not have wide shoulders though, so my plan now is to fix the arms at right angles and have the weapons coming out of the ends of the standard arms. His arm weapons are going to be the Gatling Gun and the Turbo Laser (the two standard guns in the pictures in the link below).
I would appreciate any thoughts on the above content, but I specifically need advice on two matters:
1. Armour – Initially I had planned on making leg armour/boots, greaves, a flak-armour-style chest plate (with big aquilla), shoulder pads and a bionic eye out of cardboard. I’m not so sure about this now, and I’m afraid it will end up making it look a bit tacky and rough. I’m not sure whether it will look more ridiculous (which is kind of the idea) if it is heavily armoured or just a simple teddy bear with gun mounts.
2. Carapace weapon – On the original there is a big gun on the top of the model. This however won’t work due to the fact the bear has a huge head. I wanted the Plasma Blastgun, and thought maybe I could make a shoulder-style mount, but wasn’t sure how to do this. I could potentially make the inside of the ears into Apocalypse Missile Launchers, but I don’t like this idea. Another thought was to strap a giant missile on his back (possibly a deathstrike from the manticore kit) and use it as a Vortex Missile. I really don’t know how to go about the carapace weapon.
I’m hoping to have this done within the week, so please, hit me with your thoughts, advice and abuse at my monstrous ways sooner rather than later.
