Hey guys,
Been awhile since iv been around on this here message board. Just not had the time to be online, never mind time to do any work on my guard.
Anway, back on topic now. Saturday was my first day in a long time iv had some 'man time', so I set to work with building a gaming board that cost little, and would be able to store away easy.
So, basically based on the GW board that cost £150 plus, I set off to my local DIY store and handed over £12 for 6 2ftx2ft quarter inch ply boards.
So far iv saved about £140.
At home in the loft you will find stack loads of Polystyreen (spell). Ill cast the Polystyreen (Poly) as a free cost, as they are from packaging from stuff bought for my house when I moved in last year.
I layed 4 sheets of ply wood down, and took a large sheet of Poly that was about a quarter inch think, and placed it in the centre of the four boards. I then used a marker to mark on the board roughly where the Poly would lay. I then marked where the edge of the boards ran through the Poly.
I used a Polystyreen Cutter to cut the Poly into 4 sections, and then cut the other edges and an angle to give a hill side effect. I then used PVA glue to stick each section to a corner of the Plywood board.
I then repeted this with a smaller piece of Poly sheet for a second level to the hill.
And thats all I had time to do. However I do have the next stage planned.
The hills are going to be covered with Model Plaster sheets - which will hide the look of Polystyreen, and give the hills some strength. The rest of the ply wood will be painted with a water/PVA mix to seal the wood, then I intend to use basing grass/grit to the whole of the board.
So in summery, I have 4 gaming boards with hills than can either be together or to the edge of the board. And I have two 'flat' boards.
The final two boards will probs stay flat so I can make a street scene, or whatever scene iv built terrain for!
My final part for the boards is to cover the bottom with felt, so they can be placed down on any table without risk of damaging the surface.
So, we can say the felt and basing grass costs about £30, so thats a saving of over £110.
Apoc this table is easy too. Back to the DIY store for more 2ftx2ft quarter inch ply wood, and repeat above steps!
On request ill post photos, but only if they is a demand for it.
Hope this is help to anyone wanting to save a boat load of cash and have a movable gaming table.
