Well, hello every one, let me give you the run down. Basically after having left the hobby for 6(approx) years, I have found myself with a bit of spare time and money and decided to complete what was always something of a 'dream' army for me, the Jantine 1st from the Gaunts Ghosts series.
For anyone unfamiliar with them, they are basically hard as nails heavy assault infantry, dressed in dark purple fatigues and chrome heavy(read :carapace) armour.
So, basically a LOT of vets, all with grenadiers. Also some russ support, and probably a heavy Chimera presence (when they're that cheap, why not!).
I'm looking at 1500 as a start, and then a possible increase depending on how i feel most likely.
MY current idea for the list is:
command squad-125 carapace, power weapon, standard, heavy flamer, 2 flamers, carapace
vet squad-160 carapace, 3 plas, missile launcher
vet squad-160 carapace, 3 plas, missile launcher
vet squad-125 carapace, 3 gl, autocannon
vet squad-140 carapace, heavy flamer, 2 melta guns
vet squad-160 carapace, 3 plas, missile launcher
5 chimeras-275 2 hbs,
vanquisher-170 lascannon
demolisher-185 sponson hbs/h flamers
Okay so not all ironed out yet but you get the idea. so far i have one of the russes (well the chassis, will avtually be making hugeeee russes from inverted leman russes, but more on that later), and 60 plastica cadians, in various stages of construction. I was thinking about freeing up most of the heavy weapons in the squads to make the last few points, both for fluff (assault infantry need to be fast moving) and in game terms (chimeras fire support whilst inf advance. the army will probably have a city fight theme, so I'd like a lot of flamers and close ranged weapons dotted around.
This post will also be my sort of army blog, keeping me inspired to eep going, as from my recent experience this is going to take a LOT of work. So my basic idea for the infantry was normal cadians, with the silly lumps on their backs and the helemts clipped off and filed flat, then applying shin and forarm guards made from plasticard, and visors made from plasticard. See the pics for the current progress, all other troopers are in various stages of construction.
Please excuse the photos, done with a camera phone.
All ideas, C/C's welcome, Cheers,
Brochuss

Quick update;
Okay so have one full squad and my commander complete, with a second squad half done, hope fully have it completed tonight.
Im thinking im going to make the whole army first, then base and paint it, as i remember its easy to get side tracked spending hours painting a lovelly sgt or something, only to be disillusioned with making another 40 infantry.
On another point...
Come on guys 42 views and nothing? any input will be appreciated!

crappy pic to show update, will take a better one when I complete squad 2 tomorrow. Im also going to order some plasma guns and a missile launcher or two to fill out my squads, as well as some thick plasticard to make my demolisher(land raider), and a couple of parts for my secret project...more will be revealed.
adios amigos.

Yes! More guard who have the power of the purple. We need to reclaim this colour as the noble Imperial tone that it is, take that Slannesh.
I think we do need to see some painted models but I like how the plasticard is looking so far. For sergeants or just a few of the models maybe they could have a plasticard torso sheet, clip it to the right size and bend it like you've bent the other armour bits and you'll have something that fits with the curves you've added on and will probably look sweet when you paint it chrome.

I would like to see a test paint, but if you can pull off the look then it is a really good idea.

@bgfoster, I was going for a slightly Norman, Baronistic theme as well, aiming for the helmets to emulate the norman nights from medieval total war two (references to destriers, and the planet being called jant normandius). Id greatly appreciate what you had in mind for the jantine however, please let me know . @empty hat/ready, I think you may be waiting a couple of weeks before a test model Im afraid, Im going to try and find an IG army painter online tonight and knock something up, as well as finishing the second squad (like i said been out the hobby for a while, will involve buying a lot of paints...). thanks for the input, welcome as always, Brochuss

Dave, thanks very much comments liek that keep me sticking tiny to bits of plastic to even tinier bits of plastic. well, Im currently not planning on Gaunt for this army, though i may attempt a conversion of flense at a later date. Keep posted though, as once this armys done Im planning a joint tanith/Volpone 10th army, all infantry, to represent the strike force from necropolis(good excuse to play with those lovellly new storm trooper rules, finally some Decent elite guard ) Brochuss

yeah, i beleive krasimova(sp?) is also. i was tempted to do a vitrian dragoon army, but i couldnt find suitable helmets to go with the h/e legs, and the arms would also of been problamatic. also, i prefer the jantine Brochuss

Just a thought, why don't you a Brochuss as he was in the Jantine's last stand, give him a heavy stubber, and count him as Harker. Although the squad it would create wouldn't be very Fluffy. He could be Nork though, IMO Major Brochuss is that badass.

yeah i thought about harker but the squad couldnt be carapced then.
I love the nork idea though, good thinking! his sats are amazing, but tbf it does say brochuss single handedly killed 44 vitrian dragoons during the 1st's last stand.
Where to strip the points from though, i was thinking a chimera, the power weapon gone, maybe the master of ordanance, still need 25 points off. mayeb the hull las and a melta gun from hq? or the heavy flamers from the demolisher and a flamer from the vet squad?
ive fallen slightly in love with putting nork in now, if only to give me a half chance as i have no other close combat ability.

ok then, update time, Ive been chipping away at the infantry once again, it'l be a miracle if i ever finish this lot!
Ok first off ive just ordered a load of bits, 6 p guns for 2 vet squads (need 9 but hey thats all there was), 2 missile launchers to fill out vet squads, a couple of bits to complete my command hq, including an arm for my master of ordanance, a few bits for an inquisitor and assasin im working on as well (secret project, hush hush!) and what im most excited about, my parts to convert Brochuss as a nork dedog proxy, including a heavy shooter arm set, ork torse, scout legs, a load of spent shells for the base amongst other things. I just need some GS now, and i have a feeling hes going to be pretttyyy bad a**!
and what ive actually done... okay in the attached pic, command hq (front centre) needs armour adding, melta gun converting x2, nork adding, and should be ready to go. about half done.
Squad 1 (front left)needs 3 p guns adding, anda little arour work but i would say is 85 % complete.
squad 2 (rear left) needs shotguns converting, armour adding and should be good to go. id say about 40 % complete.
Squad 3 (centre rear) hasnt had much work done, needs p guns and missle launcher so isnt a priority until parts arrive. lots of armour to do, 25% complete
Squad 4 (rear right) is the exact same as squad 3.
squad 5 (front right) i would say is pretty much done, a couple of bits of armour to add and its there. 95% complete.
Targets in chronological order are: complete squad 5, when parts arrive complete squad 1, compete command hq, complete squad 2, then finally squads 3 and 4. In all honesty this will probably take up the month as im training for kickboxing atm too.
Then next month hopefully get my hands on another cheap land raider, and complete the two russes, devil dog (as standard kit so hopefully done quick) and start painting.
fingers crossed(depending on continuing will and time restraints) im aiming for completion around start of decemeber.
thanks, brochuss

HI again, small update here, probably the last for this week as im waiting for parts more or less, though i may do the occasional bit of carapacing depending on how much free time i have left after gf duties.
okay so the autocannon squad has been fully completed, and is ready for basing and painting.
I have also fully completed enough troopers to complete a second ten man squad, though there will be swapping of troopers from one squad to another eventually.
Im super excited to start my brochuss conversion, ive eventually decided to just remove the two chimerasa from the above list as its exactly the same points. I cant see them being that usefull anyway tbh, as most battles i fight will be on smaller cityscape boards, where veichle movement will be limited anyway.( this also saved me about £40 on buying chimeras...score!)
yeah, so anyway if i can keep this pace going i think the army will be done sooner then expected! ( then i have ot think about how to fund my next project).
As all ways, ideas, C/Cs appreciated, cheers guys.

Yeah, I dont have much time this week, maybe a couple of hhours tomorrow and that will be it (damn work!) so i'll probably update tomorrow or more likely sunday. Though Ill be hungover Sunday so maybe not... anyway, Ive got my bits, so plasma gunners for 2 squads are done, as are the missile launchers for all three squads, and some progress has been made on my command squad, including my masater of ordanance. Ive also started my Brochuss(nork Dedog) conversion, but need greenstuff. On a happy note all i have to buy for the army now is three plama guns, some weapons and a land raider for my demolisher and a devil dog Keep posted guys, update soon!

so guys, a small, late update, but an update as promised! Ive been sowly chipping away when i get a few spare minutes, and have made a little progress. Im currently awaiting a pack of green stuff and somethicker plasticard to start converting my tank, and also bid on a couple or land raiders for my second conversion, but lost anyway, on to what i have done. heres the Jantine at their current strength, the two left squads are 100% complete. the command squad is I would say 75 % complete, and you can see the start of major brochuss there (Nork), as well as a master of ordanance hiding behind him. the front right squad (heavy flamer/flamers/ shotguns) squad is pretty near done, the heads are the time consuming bit and thatnkfully i only have 17 left to do on the whole army Im going to concentrate on completeing the command and flamer squad, and then finish up with the rear two squds, i also need to order my last 3 plasma guns for them. all in all, Id say the army is now about 65-70% done (in terms of making anyway) and i shouldnt think itl be too long before I start adding a lick of paint! Thanks for your patience, i realize there arnt many pics atm but when i get a bit more spare time Ill do a squad by squad. C/C and ideas welcome as always! Cheers guys Brochuss Attachments:

Hey all, sorry its bee nsuch a long time the real world has been taking up all of mytime over this last month. I have made a little progress, but not much to report on im afraid. 3 infantry squads and the command squad are now fully assembled and undercoated with the first layer of purple done on the cloth areas. Ive made some progress on nork (brochuss) and think hes going to turn out pretty damn well! however on the downside, I spent a fair bit on humbrol paints, just to find they are utter S****, they are far too oily, wont clean in water, and are too watered down and keep running into the recesses. so annoying! has anybody worked with them before? if so any tips? I will definatly be buying GW paint from now on... as an aside, ive got the thick plasticard and have started making the panels for the russ, but im really struggling to get straight cuts with a scalpel, any ideas on cutting thicker P/card? thanks guys brochuss Attachments:
