Right well after my last Space Marine Canvas', Shostak has convinced me to do another based on a screenshot I took in a game of Space Marine found here... commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=non40k&action=display&thread=13892&page=2I'm sure many of you have seen my previous paintings so hopefully you'll like this one.... As you can see it's just the basics to get the proportions right, and I can tell you that his left leg will get slightly 'chunkified'. The Chaos Marines head I'm not too fussed with at the moment because it will be covered by sparks, energy and blood. Hope you all like so far, Cosmic

Im looking forward to how tyou do the lighting on the armour, the blue glow looks a teeny bit different based on the armour colour... I'm sure youre up to the challenge though I think it'll be ace

Cheers lads Quick update, I've started work on the Gold trim and I think it's turned out alright! Better than my last attempt anyway... Just like the WIP of the last ones, the White space throws it off a tad, but once it's all done it should look nice and shiny.....and gory Cosmic

It better, while you're pretty damn good at painting there's something about the whole perspective which bothers me to no end, and a little voice at the back of my head tells me to blame the legs.

That, and the proportions are all wrong. The heads, hands and feet are really small compared to the leg guards and especially the torso. The marine on the right is either incredible fat or built like a teddy bear. Mind you, I can't draw for nuts and I'm actually quite impressed with Cosmic's skills but this is what is wrong with this painting. If it weren't for that he could (and should!) sell this to GW.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll bear it in mind. As for the proportions, the problem with Space Marines is that EVERYONE has their own interpretation on how they look. Some people like them tall and skinny, others with tiny heads and massive everything else, huge hands, small hands, massive legs, small legs, huge shoulder pads, tiny shoulder pads... I'm not too bothered with the proportions myself as like I said, everyone sees SM differently. Thank you for the feedback though, I'll see if I can do anything about the perspective. Cosmic

Well, if I have to comment on proportions, I'd say his chest and shoulder pads are a little big compared to everything else, but the main issue is still the lines in the pictures not adding up. It's kind of difficult to explain, sorry, but proportions aren't that important as long as everything is coherent. Also, the chaos marine in the screenshot is kind of just slumping together as part of the ragdoll effect, so his pose is a little awkward for a still picture. Like I said, you're great at painting, the lines just don't add up so the perspective seems off.

Excellent work, Cosmic. I know someone in Surrey who paints bizzarre nude canvas paintings; and it looks like really hard work.
The only thing that looks slighhtly irregular is the abdomen/ lower torso as there should be more plates there, not the black join pieces. Very dynamic pic!

GREAT JOB ON THE GOLD!
It looks great, and ties in nicely with the highlights on the armour.
Any proportion issues should sort themselves out when the background goes in I imagine, its quite difficult to put the figures into context with the bare canvas.
