That's a good idea... I was thinking of a special weapons squad as attack dogs or xenos... say, 3 handlers and 3 beasts .. beasts as the special weapons... I really wanna push the alien race mixture further and have almost all represented within the edf... except chaos and daemons... I'm working on an asari and a turian for a squad atm...

thanks very much ivory, thats very kind of you to say..
Goddamit...i was going to post up pics of my finished chimera and repainted and remodelled manticore...but.... got in from work to find my paint rack had fallen off the wall and landed on all my projects on my desk... the painted chimera is pretty fubar and the manticore has some light damage
re making the chimera weapon at the moment, when the rack fell on it it pushed it into the turret, broke off and chipped a bunch of the paint... the front left light and the track guards took some crushing damage too... its fixable, although might not fix it, paint over the chips and call it extensive battle damage..
the manticore is a pretty tough model, its solid foamex sandwiched together so it didnt damage as much as the chimera.. got a couple of nasty paint chips, and the radar is snapped off and i cant find a bit of it... incredibly my creed stand in was in the center of the desk and was saved by the manticore... he would have been a write off it it had landed on him...
kinda pissed me off, but i went straight to b&q and brought some rack things to sit on my desk to hold my paints (all 126 pots)... so i just spent a few hours tidying my work area... im happy for the time being...
about the beasts as special rules special weapons squad... ive been looking over the GW website and i cant really find a set of models i like to act as the beasts... any ideas???
i want them to look like they could live in a desert inhabitat (lizard like perhaps ..scorpians?) need to be able to be based on a 40mm base (no bigger) and look as if a guardsman could keep it under control... ie.. not dragon size... i imagine im gonna be putting them on a leash...
help?
im open to other styles and manufactures of minis... price is not a problem... i have a ton of throwable cash...
another thing... i entered my ghille sniper team into another painting comp on the '40k Boot camp' forum under the theme ' camo' and i ended up winning the contest... YAY... got s £20 gift voucher for 'secret weapon minitures' which is awesome...

heres my finished 1st chimera (1 of 8) despite it looking pretty worse for wear yesterday, i managed to fill a crack added a strenghener to the inside, re paint the damage and its as good as new... also took that snapped weapon and made the gun magnetised (something i should had done anyway) so not working on other weapons for different loadouts. anyway.. here it is... its fully hand painted btw as like always, it has no insignia, i will add once i figure out the best approace hope you all like... shuld get the manticore re-finished tonight... and let me tell you... the manticore looks 1000 times better than it did before... ive got into rivitting in a big way.. also tnt delivered an old skool 1998 chimera to me unbuilt in its original box today... i wanted it mainly for the tank wheels for other (secret) projects but the main vehicle minus the tank wheels will become a griffon with automatic reloader... it should be awesome.

That looks sick! Really like how the turret turned out.

The rear lights are a great touch. Looking at it, the custom built rear viewports are cut from a turret hatch rim, no? And I have to agree, the turret itself looks great for your sort of near-future (from now) military look.

Thought the rear vieuwports were just the lasgun balls with the lasguns cut off?
As always superb work ashot!!!

Like the style of this vehicle(btw like all your stuff ) cause of your way of realistic touch. This remembering me on the soviet BMP1 , which we use last weekend as enemy soldiers which we play during a army training.

Sorry I mean the blue bits. I would imagine the ball bits just have the lasgun pointing in towards the interior, would make for a smoother surface (if it would fit, I haven't tried)

Looks awesome. I was thinking about using a Krootox body with green stuff for the face as an Elkor but my funds are kinda dry atm. Have you thought about the Vampire Counts Ghoul models ? What about skinks with autoguns ? I had thought about Krogan conversions to act as Ogryns but THAT idea is beyond my modelling capabilities... Another groovy desert theme would be the tomb kings range, I mean the Tomb Kings tomb herald www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat570032a&prodId=prod1190068aWould make a pretty cool regimental standard.. You know skeleton mercenary race or something... Incorporating tomb guard bits on your priests might work, they seem to use deserrt adapted equipment... A loyal tyranid bodyguard, perhaps been mentally modified to obey your general ? Your army just spawns countless ideas... GIVE THEM TO ME !! Lol jks

Your tank colors seem to be like mine. What GW paints did you use for them. I am making a run to my local GW this weekend and I want to pick up a crap ton of paint.

@ teku... well... er.. first i spray them with army painter desert yellow ... them wash with devlan mud / agrax earthshade ... then drybrush with tausept ochre .. then paint them with desert yellow (not sure the equivelent of this as the new range as far as i can tell, theres no equivelent in layers) then drybrush with bleached bone... hope that helps.... that chim took me overall about 7 hours of painting. @ optimat... hehe... to be honest, my chimera is pretty basic... i wouldnt have known they were there too if i hadnt seen someone else paint them.... @ cooman - yup.. exactly that... cut off... never liked the design with the guns sticking out the top ltericwatts - yeah i guess it does have a bmp feel to it... when i was making the concept one up, i was going to ramp the whole front and get rid of the heavy bolter and mount, but decided that there wouldnt be another place i could mount it... ive sat in a few bmp's ... not alot of space in the back and the doors are awkward, although i liked the top ports open so we could see out... might don my ruskie gear at the war and peace show this year and go get my picture taken with some red vehicles. @ ivory... hmmm... good suggestions... il look into the krootox/elcor... i can see me doing that... im currently working on an asari and a turian... so a krogan wouldnt be that hard i imagine... base it off a tau (cos of the legs) .. defo not going near the tomb kings range... not my guys style at all to be honest... and not keen on the tallarn because they are a little too arab'y... although i like their rough rider mounts. .. as a whole, im not keen on the 40k universe, thats why im making my army a more realistic looking force... was just reading into the 6th edition and how they are taking the fluff into a new direction with tau allying with sm's and turning their backs on the impreium... that leaves me a wide open gap to rewrite my fluff in line with the alliance the EDF have with the tau... also fits as my army has no allegiance with the imperium .... hmm, looking forward to reading the new fluff very much.

Sounds sweet, I haven't got my fingers on the 6th edition but I'd like them to innovate their fluff. A krogan w/ tau legs sounds good. The Mukaali are also sweet I was thinking about getting a few.
As a fellow brit I found a link for 28mm scale metal SA80s you should look into it...

nah... ive seen those L85's and they are a bit small... ive got a whole bunch of wrong sized weaponary in my bitz box... p90's, G36's ... the best ones ive seen are the chapterhouse FN SCAR's that i use... they are awesome... maybe i should write up a size comparison guide to the various weapons avaliable and their scale to a lasgun.... perhaps..
if i have time
proberbly not then lol
anyways...
rummaging through my pocket i realised i had a fully stamped loyalty card and another with spaces to fill (get a stamp for every £15 spent, card fills after 10 stamps) a filled out card gives me £15 off of anything... so i decided to get another hellhound, leman russ and chimera... all in all, for allthree, it cost me £45 with my extra 10% discount... BARGAIN!!!
so that means im just a few tank purchases away from filling up my overall list...
just need to buy.. 5 chimeras. .. (one to become a griffon/ old skool preferably) i manticore 1 russ
so after buying them, i dont really need any more vehicles... unless i fancy a random forgeworld peice.
happy days!... sun is shining and im gonna work on a griffon tonight.

I have 5 chimeras i am looking to get rid of if you are interested. Don't really need them since I want to change over to the Strykers. I really can't wait to see your whole army in a group shot on a board.

id like to say i would... but theres a whole lot of water between you and me and postage is pretty huge these days... even if you were to get a fair price for the model, the postage on top... it would proberbly be cheaper for me to buy them with my discout at the local games shop...

well the dsrksiders are going to act mainly as air drop units... so that has opened a slot for more valks (or maybe a new flying transport... huey maybe)... the ground vehicles are primarily lightsider owned...
ok... so heres the deal... got a bunch of guys at my local shop interested in a necromunda campain... so me and my friend andy are taking it apon outselves to totally re-haul necromunda and produce a brand new dedicated rule system for an on-coming campain... basically we are basing it on a frontier world, very much inspired by 'borderlands' the game... the game will be simplified for gang creation, getting rid of the set orlock and goliath gang etc and making a universal ruke set to cover all gangs... vehicles will be a large part in the game... i myself will be making a biker gang called SAMCRO (oh yeah... i went there) i will be starting a new plog soon with andys help and log all the work on blogger too in which il be sending links etc... this will mostly be running alongside the EDF, but i can see it taking up a fair part of my time... we plan to run the campain in december onwards, and produce our full rulebook ib august... trust me... this will be revolutionary and i hope you will follow the oncoming plog as i write it up... the full rulebook will be made into a torrent too if you ever want to run this yourself... it will be like necromunda essentially, but not based on a hive world... the plog should start tommorrow with some scenery wips...
back to the EDF... last night saw a creation of a griffon... and when i say that this is the best griffon you will ever see.. im not lying... il put up some pics of my wip tommorrow.

I showed some of my friends this thread while we were waiting for more players to arrive for our gaming session today. They were uniformly impressed with what they saw, although somewhat horrified by the female Ogryn...
